Hello Christy,
Just settling in for a late breakfast in a Halifax cafe. I’m training across the road this afternoon.
Loving playing the guitar, it let’s you play it any way you want. That capo is a brilliant invention. Love it! I have some chords that feel easier than others. Cue the wonder capo. What a great instrument.
Hello Christy,
Just getting the guitar tuned up. I’m working on Billy Gray. It might be ready for the Topic Zoom session next Monday night.
Talk of fairy pools on Skye reminded me of the Fairy bridge. It’s where the fairy wife of the chief of the clan MacLead had to leave him, after a year and a day of marriage. She left their baby wrapped in a silk shawl, the fairy flag with the promise that I’m the flag could be raised three times to call for fairy aid. It has been used twice so far and lives in Dunvegan castle.
Wondering if Rory found a session?

Sara & Billy have not been heard here since Jack & Rosalita rode into Town
Actually, upon sundrenched contemplation, with a mug of Barry’s tea and a Skye baked Scone, i slightly prefer the Folk Tale album version of God Woman.

Hi Christy,
Up here near Uig the sun is belting down her rays,it must be the one Sunner week up here.
Yesterday we found our own Belemnites, Ammonites and coral from 60-120million years ago on Flodigarry beach, today we turfed the 9yo stepson out of bed at 3.30am to drive across the peninsula to watch the sun rise over Raasay.
Nearby Staffin was named by the vikings.
Today off to the Fairy Pools.
The song that is washing over me is God Woman from Graffiti Tongue but Burning Times is here too.
She is watching what we do.

Never seen a baby power introduced at half time
But Seamus Darby said he had a good swalee of brandy
the night before that final.
Galway for Sam and Clare for Liam would be a nice outcome
Not going to happen mind.
Did you end up with the thirteen tracks for the album ?

Any pointers you asked C about Bob Hilliard, the quote Bourkey shared seems to be from an article by Mary Hannigan in the IT of 6th July, https://www.irishtimes.com/sport/athletics/2024/06/22/bob-hilliard-left-his-mark-across-many-parts-of-irish-life/ I trust it’s not behind a paywall !! The Hilliards were merchants in Killarney in 19th and 20th Century, and well respected for fair wages etc, the had a shoe factory and a sort of Department store, one in Tralee also, all that remains now is a restaurant under their name. I am unaware of any public event or statue to Bob, could it be related to religion or social class ?? However in nearby Kilgarvan a plaque was unveiled to John Lehane by Michael O Riordan on your birthday 7th May in 1989 “In memory of Michael Lehane, a member of the International Spanish Brigade, who gave his young life at seas that the underprivileged of all nations would enjoy a happy and prosperous existence.” It seems that in in 1997 he was again recognized and honoured when he was posthumously awarded a Norwegian war service medal ” I guess there are many unrecognised heros and heroines. The very best of luck for The Gardens on Thurs, lets hope the weather will be kind, it’s a great venue, bain sult as. Beir bua agus beannacht. H

it would be fitting for Bob to be remembered in Killarney
Clem Beckett from Oldham is worth an online read…a good book about him as well. An amazingly brave, talented motorbike apeedway rider, before leaving for Spain…
I’ve just read a book review and biographies of 10 men and women who fought in Spain…great work and website links for ‘Forged in Spain’. http://www.richardbaxell.info
Hi Christy,
From Robert Hilliard’s last letter home
“… do not worry too much about me,
I expect I shall be quite safe. I think I am going
to make quite a good soldier. I still hate fighting
but this time it has to be done, unless fascism is
beaten in Spain and in the world it means war and
hell for our kids … “
It was at the Battle of Jarama, northeast of Madrid,
that Hilliard died, one of thousands of members of the
International Brigade to fall at the hands of Franco’s
forces over a three-week period in February 1937
in what was one of the war’s most brutal episodes.
Today the struggle carries on and on …

I sometimes wonder…is Bob Hilliard properly remembered in the Kingdom of Kerry…the county is rightly renowned for celebrating its own wonder ,beauty and achievment… ….any pointers. ?..
The Rebel v The Banner..what a prospect. !!!..
The poor auld dreary Peil is no match for the clash of the ash…McGuinness may very well deliver Sam again but the game has drifted downwards into an unappealing spectacle
I think back to those wonderful games when centre fielders reached for the sky…full backs guarded the square from marauding full forwards…. speedy wing forwards sought to shame half backs… the heros of my boyhood still remembered for their specific skills….nowadays its like 30 kids running around the pitch in a clumb of sameness …even the feckin goalies are running up their “step watches”
I fondly remember goalies chatting with umpires, sometimes even having a
smoke when play was “up the other end”
did you ever see a Baby Power being introduced at half time ?
http://www.flaggingdown.com is a Dylan site, run by Ray Padgett…it’s brilliant for gig reviews. Today, there’s a real treat as Anne Margaret Daniel covered a recent gig near Woodstock.I’ve droned on before about AMD…her articles for Hot Press,in particular.
In today’s article, there are numerous fascinating observations about Dylan and band etc,but she absolutely blitzes the punters who talked throughout the set …I couldn’t agree with her more and it’s so good to read that a top writer/academic feels so strongly …I reckon it’s a gut reaction. If an audient can’t respect a performer, the casualties are the folk trying their damnedest to concentrate…well said,AMD.
Hello Christy hope you’re doing well!! Ryan Ward here! finally settled back home on the Rock! I want to say thank you for the shoutout and for playing Sonny’s Dream for me and my Wife “Again” at the Big Marquee! You were absolutely amazing! Highlight of our trip once again! Look forward to getting back to see you again, maybe we can meet for a little yarn about our buddy Ron, and how big of an influence you are to Irish Music/Culture here in Newfoundland!
Keep the music going and take care! Whelluppp!!

my fave GAA / Car journey was driving over The Pennines on the day of a Kildare Senior C’Ship Final. My team ,Moorefield GFC ,were playing. A friend of mine, Noel Heavey , texted me every score as it happened….by the time I arrived in Leeds we were Kildare Senior Champions…..
I hope it’s a good day, checking and sorting the next album…it must be really difficult to think/know that songs are good to go. Do you find the process any easier, with experience?
Earlier,I was thinking back to listening to the charts on BBC radio ,Sunday evenings…I checked the hit parade for July,1964 and there’s a staggering number of songs that have become standards…and thoroughbred classics…fascinating to think that there was a time when such familiar songs were new…and the music insiders were thinking….is this song good to go?
Enjoy the buzz of new music…anticipation brewing here!
