Happy Easter to you and yours, Christy ! Clocks are switched to summertime while Easter eggs are covered with snow – spring is going haywire this year … Have enjoyed to read your latest chat, can’t wait for the 4 CD release later this year ! And we do hope to catch some of your gigs before … Lots of love from Hamburg ! Petra + Uwe
Ah Christy you never sang the songs I asked you to sing last night even though 2 of them are in your top 10, Contender and Companeros. But I’ll forgive you this time cause it was a great night and you sang 2 of my favourites Viva La Quince Brigada and Smoke and Strong Whiskey. I knew when you threw off the coat and hat that you were in great form and it was magic listening to you singing and Dec’s great guitar playing. Thanks Christy for a great night and the best of luck you and Dec in the future.
Christy's reply
I had it there Mike, on the tip of my tongue, I even started up the intro to The Contender when that lad whose mother comes from Derry let such a roar at me that I lost my eqalibrium. By the time I got back up on my bike Jack Doyle was gone up on Lady’s View and there was no catchin him
My wife and I listen to your music every night as we fall asleep. We’ve been doing this for the last ten years or so. We’d love to see you perform in person. Do you ever tour in the U.S.? If not, we’re seriously considering coming to Ireland to see you perform.
Christy's reply

Happy Easter. 🙂 Yes, the lyrics to the voyage….it’s one of Mums favourite pieces. I’ve been trying to see could I do it justice on the day of their anniversary and I know I won’t! I feel weird posting this….but do you do private ”sessions” at all? It’s about 60 people….older generation… 🙂 And I’d love Mum to hear that piece on the day…. Any hope at all??? 🙂
Thanks ever so much…. 🙂

Christy's reply
to think I was singing it in Killarney only last night Claire..plenty of the older generation there, ( like myself) and plenty of youngsters too….cant do private sessions any more, my doctor (nor priest )wont allow it …I need big wide open spaces..If the listeners get too close my claustrophobia kicks in and I do dive into the punchbowl..last time I did a private session the Gardaí were called and it all ended up in the petty sessions..there must be a 100 balladeers around the Black Valley could give your dear Mother a blast of The Voyage “O Life is an Ocean, Love is a Boat” .Johnny Duhan, who wrote this great song , does a mighty version of it himself..hope ye have a ball
Hi again Christy – well, if by ‘para’ you mean ‘paranoid’: you needn’t be. It’s far less daunting than what I imagine honouring a greyhound was, and far closer to home (Kildare, actually – oh yes, I hope my reference to Gandhi didn’t get you excited at the prospect of maybe venturing to India!).
Thanks so much for replying to my message. I’m sure we’ll speak one day, perhaps in July…
Christy's reply

I’ve sent an email to your bookings man (Paul) with a rather cheeky/audacious invitation – I hope he passes it on to you.
It is a long shot, but then as the adage goes, ‘if you don’t ask, you don’t get’ (thanks Ghandi).
I hope to hear back from you.

Paul is the man to find reality within audacity…over the years he has had me play christenings in Tashkent, barmitzvahs in Beirut, first communions in Zanzibar, I once played at the funeral of a greyhound in White City but the last straw was him booking me in to play a hen party in Swatragh….there were feathers every where, even in my teeth….your putting “Ghandi” and “long shot” in the same sentence has me para…its all down to Paul now. But he does take long Easter Holidays (he used to be a teacher)
