Your song north and south of river what is the meaning of that song? I love knowning the meaning of an irish song i havegogled it but cant find it 🙁
Christy's reply
it means different things to different people….I wrote it with Bono about 20 years ago basing it on an older song I began to write in Ballyscullion 10 ears previous….the original song had the line ” once more to hear a corncrake in the meadow” to which Bono said “the first thing we gotta do is get rid of that corncrake”
Christy watching Self Aid tonight as its a concert that brings back great memories to me not just because of the concert itself but the bands mostly as it was the time I was hitting the disco’s and the places I used go to was The Atlantic Hotel in Ballybunion and Monty’s in Tarbert and most of these bands I seen play before the disco at this time In Tua Nua, The Fountainhead,Cactus World News , Stocktons wing ,Scullion and many more ….it must have been an amazing day to be part of ….Anyway my point is The Sing itself “Make it Work” with yourself and Paul Doran is a fantastic song and the lyrics are probally as appropiate today as they were then….now I have never witnessed you singing this live at one of your concerts and just wondered if it was at all possible that you might ?? No panic at all christy , ill be in Vicar, Ballinasloe then (taking a break for The Boss) and then UCH in Limerick
Christy's reply

hi christy big fan, was wondering if you would ever consider doing a gig up here in fermanagh, hundreds of possible venues here would be a sellout no doubt.
Christy's reply

“Hondaland” for the Dutch supplier and “Slovenly comfort” re the dress code, two laugh out loud moments, fair play to your thoughtful replies and humour.

A long haul fan of a living legend.

Hi Christy…Having followed your ‘journey’ for nearly four decades (god almighty, that’s given me a bit of a shock, I hadn’t counted the years until now…!!!)..you’ve been maybe the only ‘constant’ through it all…the good times and the tough ones…the voice, the music, the lyrics, the craic, the whole kit and caboodle, you, the person that we all feel we know but in truth few of us actually do and the strength we take from it all…the memories of those ‘concerts’ especially way back in the day….anyway…the thing is…I just realised something…I have never, ever, ever seen you decked out in a shirt, not one with a collar anyway….you must have a pic somewhere and not one of your 1st Communion either…haha…your wedding day maybe, so come on Mr. Moore, please, please root the albums and post just one. (In truth, I’m just curious to know if you’ve ever possessed a shirt…would a ‘tie’ be pushing things a tad too far..hahaha). Either way, thank you for all those years and I wish you and yours health and happiness…take care my friend..xx
Christy's reply
Morra Ann…my last “real job” was 1966…collar and tie was compulsory…if I last another 3 years I’ll have managed 50 years without such paraphenalia….I know people who cant go out without make-up or collar and tie or high heels or crown topper or shining shoes or pressed shirts or creased trousars …more power to them I say…whatever floats your boat…I tend towards slovenly comfort myself…this can lead to bad vibes betimes (which I’m always quite happy about)….I was offered a tie in a restaraunt once and wore it as a head band….comfort always wins out over appearance….somewhere there is a photo of me as a nine year old boy soprano singing at one of Mrs O’Sullivans concerts in The Curragh Camp.( I sang “Kevin Barry” and “The Meeting of The Waters” If I ever find that snap I’ll lash it up on The Gallery. Greetings to all songbirds in The Marble City,to all The Lashers in Muckalee, The Apprentices in Coolcullen, the Miners in Comer and The Glorious People of Coon…..see you n The Salmon Pool

there will be a Liverpool gig in this year’s Autumn trip but, unfortunately, nothing in Norfolk at this time….good memories of working there in the 60s…..at the peas in Westwick near Cromer, on the rigs off Yarmouth.. I recall watching England win the world cup in Norwich.. with a group off bystanders I stood on the street ,outside a TV shop, and watched it in the shop window. I was working in Ross Foods and there was a local guy there called Jake. We used to bring our guitars to the The Three Pigeons.
