I’m flying over with my best friend, and ex partner, for the show in galway on Saturday. This weekend will mark two heavy anniversaries in my life,
Last time I saw you in concert was 7 years ago, almost to the day, in London, and my mother took her final nap two days later.
I know it’s uncouth to do this, but if you play beeswing, would there be any chance you could dedicate it to Alice and Doris?
Hi Christy, we will come to your concert in Bundoran on September 26th and will stay in Ireland until October 3rd, then unfortunately we will have to return to our work in Italy! See you soon!!! Michela and Enrico
As so often, thanks for sharing your memories ..mention of Dave and Heather Brady had me down late night rabbit holes…leading to Royston Wood,Swan Arcade and The Young Tradition…
Sadly, several of the above are no longer with us,but what productive lives they led…
Seeing the names ofThe Young Tradition brought back one of my favourite memories ..early 70s,still living with my long suffering parents. By playing YT and Watersons LPs loud,I realised I could try to put in harmonies or at least the melody…this kept me going for quite a while, much to my parents’ concern! But,the ensuing ‘racket’ didn’t rile my mother as much as the ‘thump thump thump’ of Dave Pegg’s bass as Fairport rattled my bedroom floorboards…happy days!
Time for a mug of tea now…may well be ‘chicken on a raft’ in a bit …
I’m intrigued by USA upcoming election..
Why do we fall for the trap every time…”the polls say blah blah blah…”?
Voters don’t vote till they vote
We got Brexit vote prediction wrong, likewise Aussie Federal election time before last..Trump over H Clinton wasn’t predicted
It’s not over till the generously endowed female warbles…(no offence Mama Cass…)
I know what I’m hoping before but I’m not declaring a winner till the hoop weighs in & the nag is watered fed & refreshed…
Anyway..hello all! Hoping youse are grouse
Danny Harris – fingers crossed
Hello Christy,
I’m here to talk about the joys of curry and to wish the intrepid John of Liverpool all the best. It sounds like he’s going to need all the luck he can get…
When I was a kid, students arrived at the Universty of Bradford from India or Pakistan, I was too young to know the difference, so apologies if I’ve got it wrong. My mum and dad hosted a couple for Christmas. Padmini and Seehlan brought gifts of a beautifully painted wooden elephant and spicy exotic curry into our house. It was a whole new world. For years afterwards my mum tried to recreate it with minced beef, frozen vegetables and curry powder until we had a bit more money and discovered the curry houses springing up all around. The Bengal Brasserie was first and foremost. I dived into the rogan josh and shashlik until vegetarianism switched me onto the delights of saag paneer and chana bhuna.
In Manchester was to be found the amazing Rusholme curry mile, including Abdul’s kebab house where they came wrapped in a whole nan, dripping with yoghurt, mint and chilli. The students went nuts for them.
In my 30s I went on a Reiki course in the Cotswolds. The teacher asked me what the National dish of England was. He laughed when I said curry, but, unbeknown, he got the same m answer from the course host and a trip with each of us to a local curry house.
Now we have a crate full of spices in the utility room, ghee and paneer in the fridge and a huge jar of basmati rice in the cupboard. Steve loves to cook. I’m currently holding him back from building a tandoor in the garden.
I heard the other day the the Bengal Brasserie has closed down. I hope it’s not true. It’s been a big part of Brighouse life for over 40 years. I’m thinking of that lovely curry house in Ennis too. Beautiful fragrant pilau rice…
Afternoon Christy, hope all is well. Yesterday I attended the counter-protest in Glasgow to Stephen Christopher Yaxley-Lennon’s ‘SAVE THE UK’ demo. I went with a bloc of friends from my neighbourhood. Arriving at the station we were met with 20 or 30, hooded men and I thought the worst. When I got off the train at George Square to my amazement I seen thousands, up against their side of a couple hundred. It felt so inspiring, heart was full and head was high. Bella Ciao was sang, Palestinian chants were sung. Never fails to amaze me that a city that can get so divided at times, at the lowest points we stand together. I went to look over to the crowd, so many souls that have been misdirected and lied to over many many years. I hope though, that in that crowd there will be young lads, who may think twice about their actions and come to their senses. Lets put the blame squarely at the feet of those who are wealthy, who control our housing, our food prices, our streets, our politicians who lie to us. The transport systems and job systems that dont favour to give the best to the public. Not at the jobless, homeless, migrants or anyone who doesn’t feel themselves within their own bodies.
Christy, I know you enjoy a good curry so following Dave’s recent posts I thought I would let you into a little secret. I have a BIG anniversary coming up next week so a few months back I asked the good lady wife if she could go anywhere of do anything to celebrate the big day what would it be. She replied without hesitation that she had always wanted to go to the Taj Mahal but she never mentioned it as she thought it would be very expensive, it might be to hot for her and also we might need a visa. Me being a bit of a computer wiz kid I jumped on the lap top gave it a quick google.& it popped up straight away, apparently it’s an Indian restaurant in Liverpool. She was right about it being expensive, £7:00 for a starter, and that’s before you throw in a couple of Peshawari naans and bottles of Kingfisher. I rang them and told them that my wife was worried about it being to hot and they said as long as she sticks with a Korma and avoids the Vindaloo she will be OK. I also told them she mentioned needing a visa but they said that’s no problem as they also accept MasterCard and cash. When I told her the trip to the Taj Mahal was booked she reacted as if she had won the lottery, if she’s that excited now I cant wait to see the look on her face when we actually turn up at the restaurant, I will keep you posted on how it went. John

Hamish Imlach brought me for my first curry in Saheed’s Bradford in 1967 (with Dave & Heather Brady)….he also guided me to Anwar’s Grafton Way,London and Kushi’s in Edinburgh…also brought me to eat in Mexboro, S Yorks where the woman of the house had one dish on the menu, an amazing Chicken Curry, Rice & Chapati all for 5 shillings….Hamish grew up in India and always knew where the best curry simmered….he also had great tips…eg. if eating Vindaloo always put toilet roll in fridge before retiring..
still have a fondness for Rogan Josh but I suspect that the curries were more authentic back in the day….

Hi Christy
Next weekend Heading to Leopardstown, the Curragh and Laytown strand for 3 days with dry old men in cloth and silk next weekend, digs in Kilcullen and Bellaghy all sorted.
Watching the sport of ‘kings’ , doubt i will be wrestling with a yawn over whether the gardener will be plucking daisies .
Lovely melody for such a sad , but honestly true song.
In that song i hope God’s little orphans managed to thrive in life despite their parents’ failures and the ‘guidance’ of the Bishop.
Rory
Christy's reply
not for the first time Rory you have me going back over old ground, trying to play a forgotten song…Thank You for that…
may you clean out the Turf Accoutants, may trebles doubles and yankees raise you spirits and bulge you wallet
I’ve taken long strides around bookmakers on the Curragh and in Leopardstow but Ive yet to flutter upon the sands of Laytown
hard at it here..getting ready to launch the forthcoming album out into this brave new world that becomes more mysterious by the hour
There’s a great art gallery in central Manchester…www.contemporarysix.co.uk. Today, two shows opened…Norman Adams RA vibrant, natural world pieces and paintings based on human emotions and experiences by Ghislaine Howard.
I’ve met Ghislaine and her husband,Michael a few times and they’re very easy company. Ghislaine’s works have a brilliant connection…I found out today that her mother RIP came from Co Offaly – we had a great chat about fun, family times on visits to Ireland …
Exhibition details are on the gallery website. Hopefully, some readers here can call in…it’s well worth it…Ghislaine Howard’s website is also interesting.

Hi Christy, my husband and I will finally be back to listen to you live in Bundoran, the last time was in Carrick on Shannon in 2016. We return to Ireland every year for a week, we like hiking, seeing isolated and quiet places, listening to music in the pubs in the evening.. This year will be even better because we will be at your concert! Sorry for my bad English! Michela and Enrico
Hello Christy,
Just sitting here with the first breaths of Autumn coming in. I love this time of year. The wheel turns and we feel it. Harp string breaking time. They feel the change in the air. It was the black middle F string this year. Went off like a shot. All replaced now and bedding in to the tuning.
Best wishes to Dave with his returning musical joy.
