Mention ‘Athlone’ to Galway people over a certain age and the remark usually the time we spent stuck in it trying to get through going to Dublin. A narrow old river bridge and two narrow streets, it was the main Galway to Dublin road. Hard to believe it. The then-called Athlone Relief Road is now 33 years old so people growing up nowadays would have never remembered small places, villages with 40-foot trucks driving past you as you walked.
Christy's reply
I miss that Athlone traffic jam….I love the lower west end but I also have a soft spot for the Friary walk
Hi Christy,
After an unbelievable night in Galway, my adrenaline was pumping. So I took off down the road on the 50 and was home in no time at all !! Iggy was wondering had I a helmet .I didn’t bother with it, best to let the long Hair flow in the wind. A Saturday night in Galway is something else, and you tore into it. Seems to me that you thoroughly enjoyed it yourself. The new songs are continuing to bed into the set and are going down brilliantly with the listeners. Thanks a mill for the mention, you never miss an opportunity.

Hi Jennifer….did not read your post ’til after the gig….best wishes to you and your Father..I have precious memories of my time upon “The Windswept Hill of Tulla “
Hello Christy,
Sitting here watching The Job of Songs, first saw Christy Macnamara’s photos in the Old Ground Hotel in Ennis. One day I hope Dancing in the Kitchen might hang on my wall.
Wishing you all a great evening tonight. Love your gigs in Salthill. First time we saw you there, booking the trip we were so excited to be going to stay in Galway Bay. Fairytale of New York and all that.
Hope it’s a good one.
Dear Christy, I intend to make a flyer to look for Christy Moore fans in Belgium. I looked on internet for Irish pubs in Belgium and I would like to ask to put up a flyer. Now I have a request: can I use your photo on the flyer? I would also create an email/fb address, for example “Christy Moore fans Belgium “. Do you agree with that? I have already chatted with Pat about this and he thinks it’s a good idea. I’ll wait for your answer. Meanwhile, enjoy tonight in Galway.
Christy's reply
I dont know what to say….in principle I have no problem with what you ask.,..but think carefully about it…it might lead to complications for you…why not ask here rather then trawl pubs where potential problems may lurk…
its raining here in Galway, the Atlantic is grey, 4 hours to gig time, gonna sing some new songs tonight

Anyone for the last few choc ices?
Is the line that often tickles me most of all your songs Christy.
My son Charlie often recounts ‘8 creamy pints, 20 majors and a box of matches’.
On our trip the lads called for some Christy after listening to an hour or so of LMFM , before we got to KFM country. I had packed the blue, lilac and red discs so the boys got their pick.
Off to skin a bookie now.

Thanks Christy,
Methinks The Big Marque will join the ranks

Tuam Beet, My little Honda 50, Ruby Walsh ..
But I, I a songster I. What the feck would I know ?

without listeners, songs would be like fish without water
“what would I know” you ask
for starters Bourkey, you know a good song when you hear one
Imagine if Albert Niland, Joni Mitchell, Padraig Stevens,Natalie Merchant,Tom Tuohy,Lal Waterson,Willie Nelson,Janis Ian,Tom Waits,Sinéad Ó Connor had no listeners …who’d carry the songs out across this tiny Universe…
songs and songwriters would pass unnoticed without their good listeners
listeners provide the very air that sustains those songs we love to hear
I’m here in the leaba contemplating that old rocky road to Galway,
Lucan, Leixlip, Maynooth, Kilcock, left at Kinnegad and the Bedford overheating
half the day getting thru Athlone and still in Leinster
Lookin forward to tonights fun in The Hanger…le cónamh Dé
over the raging Corrib, up thru Salthill and Bobs your uncle
We’ve just this minute arrived at our digs in Galway for tonight’s gig at Leisureland. Weve enjoyed the delights of the N6 motorway in the dark and now manage to get to bed ready for the coming events. This is the sixth time that we’ve been “over the water” to see you and we cannot wait for your performance. It’ll bring us much joy as it always does. Sunday brings a day of travel due to late flight back so I had thought perhaps Lisdoonvarna with a couple.of.others thrown in along the way, maybe Puckaun and Nenagh. Anything else your local fans can suggest then I’m all ears. Can’t wait for tonight.

fair enough…I’ll have to focus on Marquee tomorrow night..I need to get it into the set….
Lee Miller was a larger than life character. Complex and multi talented. I’m just processing the brilliant ‘Lee’ having watched it this afternoon…a very well made film in every aspect,I reckon… From her photos and her son’s account of her life,it seems very accurate.
Having been a top fashion photographer, she took on WW2 photos for Vogue magazine…in combat zones, she had a great partnership with David Scherman, her opposite number with Life magazine. At the end of the war, amidst celebrations, they were anxious to follow up stories of missing people…what is now called the Holocaust…in many ways, this is the most hard hitting part of the film.Scherman was Jewish and the onscreen chemistry is absorbing…
By this point ,Pastor Niemoller’s words and your singing bad given me an internal soundtrack Anyone relating to that message would,I hope get lots out of ‘Lee’…
Hello Christy,
Very glad to be back singing again today. Hoping to sing a couple of songs at the Topic Zoom session on Monday.
Feel weird when my voice isn’t working.
Morning Christy come west along the road once again I d say the wind will be at your back for the return visit looking forward to seeing you tomorrownight.if it fits on the night I d love to hear the cliff of doneen, anyway see how you go face the puck out
At school,a few of us were drawn to Pink Floyd…the Syd Barrett era.Never lost the fascination and followed David Gilmour’s career with interest.
Often, there was a tasty acoustic underlay to some big sounds…still there now, thankfully. A new DG LP and after a few listens, there’s some great music….but,I’m repeatedly drawn to the simplicity of ‘Yes,I have ghosts’…Gilmour on nylon string guitar,John McCusker,fiddle..fab vocals by father and daughter…and an evocative story line.I also found it on YouTube …
Whilst there I wondered if there was a post of your take on ‘Shine on you crazy diamond”…hallelujah, there is…and it’s a cracker…you and Declan and his very tasty guitar work. Your singing is brilliant on such an emotional song. years ago,was really surprised when I saw you’d covered it….but, brilliant you did!
Christy
I was listening to songs by Bik McFarlane on the M74 today and listening to one it reminded me of the Tifo at Celtic Park/Parkhead a few years ago using his words
“The terrorist or the dreamer: the savage or the brave?
It depends who’s vote you’re trying to catch, or who’s face you’re trying to save.”
Fine song, fine man.
You have sung many songs, have you tried that one?
