Location: flocking around the Galway tent like magpies in a frenzy
CM (67)
We have 2 spideogs nesting in the shed I have to leath an doras open for them.
Today I made my first faoistin. We had to draw a picture of our peacaí and I gave it to the priest on the alter and even with all my work he tore it up.! What a carry on!
I was going to put a picture of me shooting magpies on the picture but that would be telling the sagart too much.
My Dadó said he made faoistin in a box I thought it was a april fools joke.
My Dad was messing at his céad faoistin and the priest thought it was my uncle Joe and he gave Joe a SLAP in the BACK OF HIS HEAD.
Then I dreamt I was in the confessional box and the auld Bishop said to me
Any impure thoughts, my child?
Yes I do i said,
The magpies are still in the tree! …and annoying me.!

CS(8)….I recorded 2 songs today….over the past 6 months I have been recording all sorts of songs….they are starting to sound finished…I was half way thru one song when they started demolishing the building next door..I was immersed in a lullaby when the Jack hammers started up, then the sledgehammers joined in..there were spiders running in all directions..I said 3 Hail Marys to Blessed Martin De Porres and the racket stopped suddenly, just long enough for me to complete my lullaby….now I have to go to Lough Derg to give thanks…hope that RS is not suffering too much..please give her my sympathies..hopefully she will heal quickly and be ready for a good dinner…
Hi Christy, I have an image of the Brigadier General at the theatre watching a play on Sunday, and Monday running around the bog with the lee enfield 303 stuck in his welle’s roaring”Sniper on The Hill Of Allen” and Tommy’s Honda 50 doing recon.Your a bold one for sure, thank God. I was stationed in Dublin and all I ever did was polish me boots, left the FCA after 2 weeks and kept the uniform, where it is now I have no clue, probably on a scare crow in Moone watchin over the singin monks harvest. It,s great to have this forum to chat with you. Deb’s mam is over at the moment helping us, as Deb had her thyroid removed. She is a wonderful lady from Togher Co Cork.Working on a new ditti over the last while, called the wall. They built a wall around Jerusalem a wall, and a wall built round me heart filled with pain. A wall was built around Warsaw, what I saw my God cant be explained… They built a wall around Gaza a great big wall, soldier’s stand on guard on either side. The war of words are softly spoken , so soft ,we don’t see genocide….We built a shrine to Maryln Monroe, Meryl Streep got a star on the walk of fame.Rachel Corrie got a mural in a school yard,in Palestine her spirit still remains’……. When will this end , when will this be over, building walls to hide from one another, if truth be told, sadly I do wonder…….I watched Martin Scorcese pic last night’The Band final show called The last waltz, excellent movie, I also get to watch Jools Holland as well on the music scene at home.Do you still sing a song about a Navajo Girl, maybe I got the name wrong.St Patrick is gone for another year, and the Easter snow has finally melted,Take care Christy. Left….Right….Left ….Right .Doing recon the Honda ran outa petrol” for fuck sake lads keep it together” no messin, your a bould one for sure. Love Fin
Christy's reply
The Wall read realgood Fin…keep it goin and lets hear it when you’re done…I’m put Deb in the white light, please give her my best wishes and her Mam too…..I saw that Scorsese when it first came out…I was in Paris and had a few days off ..wandering about I rambled into cinema, I was extremely relaxed and sat through it twice…saw it again about 20 years later and really got into it again…some odd moments in it but he’s a quare hawk behind the camera..you got me with the Navajo girl, Luka used to sing a song years ago called Winona La Duke …woud that be it ?
Christy!! Your song ‘The Burning Times’ has an intriguing line about the women who held hands and walked into the sea….. I would love to hear more about this tale but most information is about the persecution and tragic deaths of the women in these times…..ironically there is not a lot about the peaceful protest they made against the genocide by walking into the sea.I would love to hear more, or gain more information about it so I can read till my soul is content.
Thank you for the beauty you created in giving a voice to our women ancestors of this time. Its empowering to see how far we have come. <3
Christy's reply
This great song was written by Charlie Murphy from California….I first heard it sung by Roy Bailey from Nottingham England and was entranced. I dont perform it often, only when the time is right…it often stills the night…I have never felt the need to know anything more then the song says so I have not researched nor analysed…I keep coming back to it..over the years I have recorded it 3 times..It is wonderful to get word from Perth about the song…I sung it there in the 90s.greetings to all WA songsters
Funny but I’ve always remembered Declan O’Farrell doing support on your tour – especially his version of the Lakes of Coolfin. Remember support slots from Kieran Goss, Damian Dempsey and Eleanor Shanley amongst others too. You’ve given a leg up to a few artists over the years. Must say I love the current no support, no interval, almost 2 hour show format though. It is a wonderful experience to be in that audience and see what way the night evolves – something that no words of mine can adequately express.
Christy's reply
its become the format that works best for us….thanks for the feedback… used to stand sidestage when Declan O’Farrell sang The Lake of Coolfin…for me, his version was the definitive one
Thanks for the ‘Leb’ explanation, it’s nice to have a mystery unravelled. As I said, great song and smashing bit of guitar on the outro (smoke and strong whiskey cd version)
Christy's reply
the outro guitar break was played by the late Jimmy Faulkner….
Hi guys, I’m working on a book about the iconic Glasgow Barrowland gig venue and would love to hear any stories about your experiences there. Christy, you’re a Barrowland favourite. Would love to do an interview for the book…?
Christy's reply
that would be a pleasure..send me your email address
Mark B, I think at one time Christy wanted to play in the Lebanon, but the FCA would not let him travel outside of the Curragh, its risky when you leave the Curragh canteen!!!.Also looking at his file”The FCA uniform did not fit ” ” Private Moore has gone AWOL”.These issue’s came back to haunt him poor lad. Love to all Christy.
Christy's reply
Finbar, never let the truth get in the way of a good story..hows she cuttin boy ?
Howya Christy, delighted to see you’re announced for two gigs back in Doire. I’ll be queueing from the early morn for tickets, none better than seeing you up front. A lot of folk holding back on Thatcher, more so because they were brought up to respect people, the Irish way, Loved by many around the world we are! As you so aptly put it in your criticism of her an Pinochet, fuck them. Another rotten soul no longer with us. I would say a lot of men will rest easier tonight, one being Bobby Sands MLA.
Anyway good luck with the tour, I hope you’ll be back in the Bara’s this year, be great to get over again and see you there, I’d like to say my best gig to date but meeting you in the Waterfront topped all.
Until then….Ride On 🙂

greetings to you Colm, next visit to Barrowland is scheduled Apr 2014 but I am already in serious training to climb the steps to that hallowed hall once again
Played Welcome to the Cabaret today, great song especially the ‘king of the road’ bit, but I’ve never managed to find out what the ‘what about the leb?’ line (or is it led) that comes later means. Can anyone help? Thanks.
Christy's reply
Many years ago I was (unofficially) invited by the enlisted men of the Irish Army Peacekeeping Force in The Lebanon to come and sing for them. I subsequently heard that they held a ballot to find whom they would like to come and play. I offered my services but the Top Brass ( officially) declined. Some years later I met the Chief of Staff at a play in The Abbey Theatre. I asked him why they had turned me down….”because you were a bold boy” he replied…..so ” What about The Leb,Brigadier General”

Hi Christy, just started listening to your great music recently, it’s right up my alley! I was wondering if you ever play in Canada?
