Thank you for yet another brilliant gig- I think the security guys were well in charge of the drunken “ladies.” God love them, they missed a great night. Loved Spancil Hill and the dedication Mr Rooney was spot on. Really liking the Lyra McKee song too. That night was one of shame for our town. Hope you’re home safely. Stay safe.

glad you made it John…its a great gig room…I like the Great Northern..has history and always a great welcome…
pity about the young women..I hope they are ok….I never forget..when I was in my cups I was asked to leave a room or two…
A brilliant show tonight in Bandoran. Our first time in person, and we had the best seats in the house. Your music has connected me with the long history of my family. Great energy, great laughs, great voice. Weekend in Amsterdam was on point 🙂
Hello Christy,
OO AH hope it’s a good one tonight.
I’ve started working on my first fingerstyle song. Ride On. Never thought it worked properly on the harp.
Fingers on right hand ok. Just got to change chords with the other hand now and sing with the rest of me.
Octopuses…

Cumann na Mná was jiggin along nicely until two drunken ladies in the front row knocked me off my rhythm and I had to do a handbrake turn..luckily the audience were absolutely brilliant and steered me back on track…thon ladies ran out of liquor, retired to the Bar and were not seen again…. phew…..
keep those fingers working..
Great reminiscing here on Wednesday. That Campbell song featured on ‘Iron…’ album. I have it still. Dont know that earlier Campbell song at all.
Top Ten, Radio Eireann, Monday evenings, yep I remember it. “Pop Call” late Weds nights was another programme.

The “Old Man’s Song” is Track 1 on green disc at the “Box Set 1964-2004” released on Columbia 20 years ago
Ian Cambell wrote some great songs..his club and his band inspired many in the 1960s
Heading off now from Glasgow to Donegal to see Christy tonight. Have seen him many times in Glasgow, Liverpool, and Belfast but got a feeling tonight will be special back home in Donegal. Canny wait!
Ah Christy let the dogs see the rabbit. Here’s the list. It has one item. Folk Tale.
I think it would work magnificently at Vicar Street. So chop the wood carry the water. (please and thanks)
Ooh ah up the mna. X

tried gigging this a few times years back…it was the favourite of our late friend Traudel Horst….it never worked fr me in a gig set but I do sometimes sing it here iin the workroom….
Great pick out,John…still spot on a few years down the runway…
Christy,I’m away to Sicily in a few days.Flying with a well known budget airline.Might land in Pisa instead of Palermo…
Thinking of Italy,I’m reminded of an early song I heard you play…Ian Campbell’s ‘The Old Man’s Song’…very poignant, cleverly touching on WW2,looking back from the 60s…I was early 20s when I heard it…as Paul Simon wrote around the same time – ‘how terribly strange to be seventy…’
Hi Christy
We saw you perform in 2016 in Guilford, England and had the privilege of meeting you backstage. We are hoping to see you perform in 2025 and are wondering if there are any gigs planned on or around your milestone birthday in May. It would be so worth the trip across the pond.
Regards,
MIchelle and Derek Power
Christy, you’ll remember Granada TV….a great range of live and pre recorded music….a good selection now on YouTube via a search like-
Granada TV music shows…
My intro to early 70sshow bands was The Carousel Club in Plymouth Grove….rock n rolling on many occasions, having fallen in with Irish student nurses, based at my local hospital….a highlight was a late night set from Thin Lizzy.Riding high with ‘Whiskey in the jar’,they’d played a full gig elsewhere and were on the way to their digs…not far away, run by Phil’s mum…any memories here of the Carousel or Mrs L’s?
Enjoy pre Bundoran prep
Dave

when Planxty played in the MSG we stayed with Mrs.L ..I remember little from that night except Jenks ran out of Newcastle Brown
Played Carousel once , prob late 60s, some one ran a Concert, I recall a drunk heckler getting upset over Pontchartrain…
Yerra Christy! All aboard for the 6-5 jive! And then on to Oh Boy! on UTV….sometime Top of the Pops came along, then we had Ready! Steady! Go!, followed by Ready Steady Go’s Live! where P.J. Proby split his pants ..oh the scandal, the horror, the great fun for us teenage ‘rebels’! And was it Monday evening at 7 on RTE radio, the Irish Top Ten? Twice a week we were allowed a 30 minute break from our homework, the Irish Top 10 on radio, and Top of the Pops on TV……
And the ‘sponsored’ programmes on the radio in the mornings before we upped on our bikes to school….my big sis Majella, Lord rest her, kept us in shampoo- I think Silvekrin- all year, she was a dab hand at naming the record for the competition, mammy wrote her answers in a letter, and we waited with bated breath to hear her name on the radio as the winner!
And when we were old enough on to the Pavilion or Adelphi, or the Embassy in Blaney I think where the wonderful showbands had the top 20 perfected for us every week….and who knows, if one got lucky off to the mineral bar for a lemonade…
Today’s youth probably have it great with wall to wall streaming etc., but really we were well looked after for our music in those days!
Should be off to Cologne tomorrow night for Luka, sadly he has cancelled, ill health I think. I hope it passes soon, looking forward to the rearranged gig.
Keep er lit fella!

Taking in all your gigs around the emerald isle has greatly improved my Irish history. We are travelling around Mayo and Donegal before Bundoran on Thursday night. Visited some of Ireland’s greatest sons, Michael Davitt museum (a brilliant resource and recommended stop) on to Foxford the home of Admiral William Brown and then on to Sligo for Andrew Kerins (brother Walfrid) and Sean Fallon, Celtic stalwarts.
We are over for the Glasgow fair weekend, greatly missing the Gallowgate gig, but getting the fix around this great place. We are also celebrating at 45 years married, wed in 1979, outlasted Thatcher but her damage still there. Our party includes Charlie, Pearl, from Stirling and Andy and Gerry who hail from Coatbridge with big Donegal links.
Have a great gig, also now booked in to vicar street.

Keep an eye out for the D Day Dodgers
I’ve a feeling it might have been a woman…
Have to ask Christy! Have you any idea why yer man got upset over Pontchartrain?
he was drunkenly insisiting that mention of a”Creole Girl” was both sexist and racist
reminds me of another drunk encountered who protested about mention of a Muslin Dress in the song “This is The Day”… he issued a muslin fatwa
Ha-ha, brilliant! Thanks John.
