It brought tears to my eyes when I read this touching new chat …. You re so amazing.
I feel blessed to know you and your music and that I still have the opportunity now and then to come over for your gigs ….
and I m so looking forward to this new Album… I admire you and your energy to create these wonderful things . I was happy to have already heard some of the new songs in your gigs….. Last time I was so lucky to join both in bundoran…. Great songs…. Still as fascinating as ever … still feeling the pulse of our time and bringing it near to us with all the emotions that make us shiver .
I also want to say thank you to all those wonderful people around you who do their Important part that all this can happen and you can rely on them and focus on the music
It s nearly forty years now my Irish veterinarian collegue and friend gave this tape with the songs of ordinary man to me and from there on you and your music accompanied my life and gave me a lot of joy and also it was a rock during hard times and when I nearly lost the connection to Eire.
So please stay healthy and keep on rollin… we re all there and so happy to listen

Well Christy, what can I say other than your new chat is a wonderful look into the new Album. Your explanations and the reasons for recording/performing the songs is so unique and insightful. We have been privileged to witness some of them “Sneak” into the Gigs….. and really well received, with the choirs already getting in on the Chorus. The timing of the Album and the Songs selected are just right for the state of our world at the moment.
CONGRATULATIONS, there is no doubt that this will go down as another one of your masterpieces.

Wonderful new Chat Christy GRMMA. I really feel and believe that this album will be the most powerful you have ever put out. So many important issues in the ballads from support for young men to Gaza, for Anne Lovett and Lyra, speaking truth to power as always, but I do think you are a Man on an important Mission now to call out injustice very cleary and challenge us to take our power and act, personally and / or

A lovely idea to explain all the songs on A Terrible Beauty, now just gotta get our hands (and ears) on it Nov 1st…really looking forward to it and just thought to ask if there was anyone that you always looked forward to getting a new LP from, waiting until it arrived , picking it up in a record shop..getting it home to play…what was first vinyl you bought ?

I hope this finds you well in these trying times we’re living in. You’ve probably been asked this a million times since 2020, but are ye ever gona come back to Glasgow any time soon? We’re fair missin ye.
I had tickets for the concert hall yon year 2020 when we all got grounded and got told to stay in 🙁
I keep telling my son, who’s now 14 that I’m gona take him to see you! He’s been playing the guitar and banjo now for 2 years, and finally got him to start singing a year ago, now he won’t shut up lol It’s like having a gig in my house every day (not that I’m complaining, neither are my neighbours thankfully) Took him (and his guitar) over to Doolin Folk Festival this year and he was right at home in the jam circles.
Tomorrow has another performance of Peter’s Field…I posted about the Rochdale gig I saw in Summer. Fab work by Sean Cooney,Sam Carter and Eliza Carthy.
Sadly,I can’t go to the Middleton event,but have been reading about it. The venue is new to me,but is fascinating history…maybe,you might have come across the school room and church when you lived nearby. It’s an inspired choice of venue for music about Peterloo.
Hopwood Hall was a great gig way back when Phil McCabe was there….Owen Carron MP was a student when I played there…not too far away was St.Clares on Victoria Ave….I heard The McPeakes there in 1967…gigged there myself with Packie Manus Byrne….Tony Downes was a resident singer there and Fr Fritz was the booker
Hi Christy and John. Thanks a million for the recommendations, all great tunes. I really loved “Off to Sea Once More”, and “Does This Train Stop At Merseyside”. Funny that the main version I found on YouTube of the latter, other than Christy and Declan’s version was from Ian Prowse, who introduced me at the Cavern Pub Open Mic in my second week here saying, “You’re in the 33rd county now, son”, and it’s been moving since.
Thanks John, I didn’t know the extent of musicians that were here, that’s great.
Thanks a million for the interest. I’ll be playing in The Irish House on 37 Ranelagh Street today, 16 Oct from 4pm to 6pm and the same time next Wednesday 23rd Oct. Also playing Shenanigans on 77 Tithebarn Street this Saturday, 19th Oct 10 – 12. Would be great to meet you if you were about.
