Hello Christy,
I’m bursting with so many emotions this morning listening to your new album. Pride, joy, love, compassion and so much space. Your touch is so light these days and you’re like a laser with it.
I’ve had one listening and this moment comes only once, so I wanted to post right at this moment.
Thankyou for embracing the women. You turned Anne Lovett into a red blooded loving living creature for me.
Broomielaw took me straight to Molly and William, her dark eyes sailor.
Lemon sevens with its dark aeolian chords like chocolate.
And that man Cathal is made of rhythm .
I think I’ve missed a lot of what I meant to say. The thing is full of people all living vividly, shining through you like light through stained glass. Storyteller.

anyone knocking about the Hugh Lane in the coming time..try to visit and see the permanent exhibitions of Harry Clarke Glass..the current stunning retro exhibition of Brian Maguire, the ongoing exhibition of Sarah Purser….
Boy in the wild. Thanks to you, wally and Andy. What a lovely song. As someone who lost his son at aged 30 this message needs to be repeated, young people need to know they are valued. Looking forward to hearing you sing it live, tears will be flowing.

Off music topic, but I know there’s always room for art and human interest news here…
This will be of particular interest to readers in striking distance of The Waterside gallery/theatre,Sale,Gr Manchester…until January, there’s a free exhibition of art, models etc created by the genius film animator,Ray Harryhausen. I took my grandkids today and have never seen my 10 yo grandson so absorbed …his sisters slightly less so,but they enjoyed seeing their brother taking photos and getting ideas for his own animations.
Viva creativity in all forms….even if the aforementioned kids can’t be arsed to play the ukuleles currently gathering dust in their rooms…that’s my next task with them!!
Hello Christy,
Well we’re all booked for the marquee on 28th June. Front row, stage left, I was quick off the mark this morning, all doing no thinking, click click done! I went back in at 7 minutes past and ticketmaster was offering best seats on row j. 4711ers are wild for the gigs. Those tickets were screaming out of the door. Hope everybody got what they wanted! I’ve booked a little house on the same side of the Lee as the marquee. Should be fun and very walkable. Spending a few days so we should be able to do plenty of everything.
Hi Christy
Just wondering if could give a little shoutout to four Glenties women going to see to you in Vicar St on Saturday evening. Two of them are flying in from across the pond for the occasion.
And if it were possible to sing “Back home in Derry” for them. Best of luck with the new album and run of gigs in Vicar St. Le meas Paudie
Dear Christy, it’s really a musical christmas time as someone called it here. My wife and I were at an Andy Irvine gig last night. He’s touring in Germany.
And your new album we are all waiting for is marking another highlight. I know it’s on the way, I hope shipping time will not be too long.
Good luck for your gigs at Vicar St., always special I think.
All the best to you and all around here in this fine guestbook.

Really interested to read John’s post and realise just how many gigs you played here. Many of which passed me by! Funny, that at a small venue like the fab Golden Lion folk club,he and I would have accounted for a reasonable %of the whole crowd! Happy days…
I have a busy, messy day tomorrow and am greatly looking forward to getting my paws on the new LP for an evening listen. Not having heard a note of the majority of songs,I’m really looking forward to the discovery process….and stunning artwork/sleeve notes.I hope you really enjoy release day too
All the best

Dear Christy I hope you’re keeping well. I had great pleasure to see John Spillane at the Irish Centre in Camden. What a joy to hear. And then Lankum in Hammersmith. The crowds could not have been more different. I swear some just come along for the riotous assembly. Each to their own though. Live and let live. There would’ve been a time when I would have become quite aerated. But no more.
I’m just on here to say I’m very much looking forward to the album. Keep well and keep the damp from the bones. Best to you the fam and the lads as ever. Anuk x
Dave, I also saw Joni Mitchell at the Manchester Odeon. I think it was Summer 1972 and the only time I saw her live. Her support was Jackson Browne.
I think the Odeon was the only entertainment venue that I didn’t see Christy play in Manchester. There was the Free Trade Hall, the Lesser Free Trade Hall, Royal Exchange, Apollo Ardwick, Carousel, International, Platt Fields, Manchester Uni, Hopwood Hall Middleton, Hardrock in Stretford, MSG of course, as well as several pubs which hosted folk clubs such as Golden Lion, Cavalcade.
Good luck with the new album Christy.

Looking forward to seeing you on November 13th. We fly home to Ireland to get married next week in Kildare, where we will have our first dance to “The Voyage”. Then we have the pleasure of seeing you live the following week. We feel very lucky!
Cheers, Conor & Claire.

Sending good vibrations in advance of a busy time for all involved with the new album release and upcoming gigs. Coming from the post vinyl era, I pre ordered “A Terrible Beauty” as my first LP to get right into the fabric of the songs. The video teasers for “Boy in the Wild” look brilliant.
Hi Christy,
The anticipation for us all is reaching a crescendo as the big day arrives. By now we have had the privilege of hearing the tracks live, but to have them all together on one album is really special. No need for us to wonder as to how successful it will be, it’s already a huge success. The sense of satisfaction for you, when you got your hands on the first edition must have been immense…….. all the hours and days of writing , practicing, recording, re-recording, the running order etc, all of the people in the background coming together, is indeed a wonderful thing.
Enjoy the coming days, and we can have a “ Blow-out” in HQ on Saturday.
Ride On.

Myself and my fiancee attended your show at Slieve Russell Hotel this past June. We’ve listened to a plethora of your work over the years but this was our first time seeing you live.
What a brilliant show it was, my fiancee particularly enjoyed ‘The Voyage’, it was her first time hearing it and it really moved her. Going forward, any time we hear that song, it will take us back to that moment.
The room was full that night and we got sitting about 5 rows from your stage, lo and behold we ended up sitting beside another couple who lived in our town. Small world!
I see you’ve released some dates for the North next year, hope to make it there! All the best.

I was blest the day, back in 1986 , when Johnny Duhan shared his beautiful song “The Voyage”with me……previous to that I had recorded his song “El Salvador” in 1983……later I recorded his “100 miles from Home” (on the “Box Set 1964-2004”)
Rory’s story reminds me of a report by Rudy Vranckx, a renowned journalist from the Flemish News channel VRT/Canvas. In 2017 he made a call to collect musical instruments for a, by IS, completely destroyed music school in Mosul (Irak). It was a success, the instruments were delivered and Rudy made a report about it. Rudy Vranckx is a very committed person, he is always present in conflict areas and makes often very moving pictures. I liked to share this positive story with you. Love to all
Hello Christy.Looking forward to seeing you kick off your series of gigs at Vicar st. It is always honour to be sitting there watching you serenade us with your wonderful aray of songs and stories. Roll on Saturday Nov 2nd. Also looking foto the new album..
Well C, what a joy to see nine new gigs announced and tickets on sale this week !! It sure is an exciting week and I have no doubt a busy week for your crew, your backroom staff, your partners in TM and Aiken and of course yourself !! I was only thinking recently as well as what you bring to the cultural life of this Island your gigs also provide an important economic impact. Not only do you keep hotels, restaurants & bars busy, petrol stations & public transport around the country but you are increasingly bringing tourists from around the globe. Of course people have always come to the island to hear you but now that you no longer travel abroad more and more people are coming here, it wonderful to meet so many nationalities at your gigs. It all adds up to, what I remember from my Economic Classes as both the domino and multiplied effect !!! which could also be applied to the effect you have had on our Folk and Trad Music. But enough, enjoy this important week and lets all celebrate what is going to be wonderful album. Beir bua agus beannacht. H

to be in the middle of all this is wonderful place to be….I appreciate all the good people who gather from near and far… some for occasional gigs, others for regular gatherings and, I must add, the very few who attend constantly and bring a comforting continuity to the on going gaggle…
thank you for your ongoing support, for your prompts and for always keeping an eye out for wayward strays
Hello Christy,
Heading for the Panther Club tonight. Time to get the harp tuned and polish a few songs. You’ve seen some things at gigs over the years. Not much here, mainly bits of fun at a few performances of Rocky Horror with what people were or weren’t wearing. It’s strangely cosy at those shows. All the toilets become unisex and the feathers from the boas fall like snow.
