Oh the Vicar Street anticipation is building, always one of my favourite nights of the year. Any chance of hearing the lovely Broomielaw 🎶 either way, am looking forward to it!
Hiya Christy, loving the new album, it’s so very affecting. I have decided to treat myself to a trip across the water since my last plan to see you was usurped by COVID and I have been missing your magic very much indeed. Hilary has very kindly sorted me with a ticket and it’s my first foray away from the little ones, what a way to do it! Can’t wait to hear some of the new work live, best of luck, I’ll be cheering you on tomorrow night (along with everyone else of course!).

I’m looking forward to a wonderful concert tomorrow at Vicar Street I’ve already been to your concerts the marquee and Sligo this year. But Vicar Street is always special. As I always come from Hamburg, it is always a special event. Thank you for these wonderful experiences.
Christy's reply
Welcome backAstrid…..
Hamburg has always welcomed rambling Troubadours…I hope you have a good visit to The Black Lagoon
Dear Christy, I hope you are going well. Great to be informed all Vicar gigs are fantastic.
Mentioning Woody, Bob, Christy, Andy I’m glad to see that Andy Irvine will publish a Woody Guthrie album next year. A long-term desire.
Thank you and all the best
Günter
Christy's reply
that’s good news ..I look forward to hearing Andy’s Woody Guthrie album
Totally agree…regular (p)laying of ‘Penguin Eggs’ here too…
I’ve just played Dylan’s ‘Song to Woody’s and recalled your ‘Tribute…’ on Prosperous…that’s now had several spins…
Thinking now about ageing …it’s a brilliant song that sounds old ,deliberately so,I think. Written and recorded by Dylan in his early 20s. Played by you and Andy Irvine when you weren’t much older…and you recorded an ace version.I’m visualising the two of you and Bill Leader buzzing from the experience of playing such a brilliant song ..one of many on that epic LP.
Dylan’s writing hit me then,as it still does…
‘ came with the dust
Gone with the wind’
Woody and Bob…what a combo.

Hello Christy,
Thankyou for what you said. It helped! Steve was so happy with your retirement wish.
Hamish Imlach’s first album arrived here yesterday. Original vinyl from 1966. It’s got the price ticket still on it. £1.49 in WHSmiths. So it must have been bought after 1971 with the new money.
It’s battered and a bit worn looking but it plays perfectly.
I really like his voice, broad, focused and a little bit of granite in there.
On a first listen I tried to get the instruments too. Hard. I’m usually so focused on the voice…
Johnny O’Breadislee
Men Of Knoydart
The Zoological Gardens
Street Songs
Cod Liver Oil And Orange Juice
The Gaudie
If It Wasn’t For The Unions
The Cumbie Boys
Erin Go Bragh
The Soldier’s Prayer
Black Is The Colour
Foggy Dew
There’s a couple in there I really want to have a go at. The old modal ones.
You know, I bet he would have done a fine Musgrave. Do you know if he ever sang it?
Rebecca
Christy's reply
he never did….there is a version of his “Black is The Colour” on Spotify where his guitar playing is beautiful…when I first heard him in 1966 this is the way he sounded
Hi Christy
A Nic Jones fest tonight…ended up on YouTube with a stunning version of ‘Anachie Gordon’…such power in a mighty trad song when voice and guitar are in precision..what an artist….D
Christy's reply
I sometimes listen to Nic and marvel at the complexities of his accompaniments which appear to come to him naturally…..I think I heard (or read) that his guitar parts “came” to him as he worked on his songs….
our paths never crossed when I lived “over”….we met when he played a concert with Planxty circa 1972….
Some time later Liam Óg O’Flynn played Nic’s “Penguin Eggs” for me. I’ve listened to that album ever since..played it more than any other
Great to see Johnny Moynihan mentioned recently.Around the time I bought the first Planxty LP,soon after release,a clued up assistant at Rare Records suggested ‘Sweeney’s Men’ as an outfit to check out…sound advice and fab listening to this day…there’s a smart double CD of the band’s ‘greatest hits’…pure class…
Sad news that Dickie Rck has pased…one of the greats of the showband era….happy memories of Beechmount,Navan and The Carousel ‘ballroom’…
Hello Christy,
Sorry if I’ve not been my cheerful self, crashed after I got the house finished. It’s been 10 months. Steve retires on Wednesday. He will be 66. He says he’s going to build a recording studio in his office/music room/etc… should be fun.
Hope your gigs remain joyful and fruitful.
Looking forward to a long break in Ireland first half of January, given enough of a kind wind.
Rebecca

Christy morning,
I have been introducing my brother to Colm mac con Iomaire and John Reilly in zagreb, such magic is hard to compare, though we are going to be heading to museums today.
First off the museum of New Wave music, then museum of Broken Relationships which is unsurprisingly near the museum of Hangovers.
A couple of pints and then back for some Old Caravee and Who put theBlood?
Rory
Good to see a post from my old pal Cammy about Sinead.
My brother has flown from Perth WA to join me in Zagreb to see the mighty Glasgow Celtic play on Tuesday.
On my journey i listened to some great songs from Bik McFarlane and Terry O’Neill.
It is cold here but the hoops will warm the hearts.
C’mon the Celts.

My father (Jerry) is a huge fan of yours – we’ve been coming to your 5 of the last 7 years or Christmas shows. In that time, I’ve gone abroad, come home, met my boyfriend and had a baby. He’s been a great father throughout all that. He turned 75 in October and loves your music. I hope you don’t stop playing these gigs as I love these evenings with him. We’re coming this Wednesday the 12th Dec and cannot wait. If you could wish him a belated happy birthday, it would be amazing. All the very best, Róisín Fitzpatrick
Christy's reply
Wed will be the 11th…..hope we all arrive on the same night !
Hi Christy I hope you are well. Glad to see your gigs getting great reviews. Your a legend and always will be. Appreciate the word legend is used far too easily these days by some but just wanted to wish the legend that is Sinead O’connor a happy heavenly birthday. Stumbled across Heroine the other day which is an old favourite of mine. Taken too soon x
Howya Christy. The new long player is mighty. Any UK shows on the cards at all?

These are happy and precious gigs for me…..as the remainder of the tour diminishes, each gig becomes more precious…over years I’ve gleaned a basket of songs….every night, since 1966, the work has been sustained by you good listeners….Come all You Dreamers
Hi Christy, thanks for another excellent gig on Thursday – as always. Was great to hear The Galtee Mountain Boy. Looking forward to 20th January already!
Christy's reply
Thanks Patrick…
I slipped into it after a Shane song…I was half way thru the first verse when I realised I was in the wrong key….I like to sing it in a lower key….
Shane often asked me about The Galtee Mountain Boy…they tell me it was played at his service…
Lake of Shadows! A great name indeed Christy and what a tune. I remember before the 1st Moving Hearts album came out there was a couple of singles released first. Lake of Shadows was the b side on one of the singles. Learned it straight away, long forgotten, it’s going back on the to learn list. Great tune!

we rehearsed there for 3 days and night in !981…that’s when Donal, Declan and Eoghan wrote the piece…. Hugh was the promoter
Since discovering Gerry Diver’s genius and realising we’re both from the same suburb,we’ve had a few emails – music, family links and shared experiences…
So,it’s great that he and Lisa Knapp will play a gig in Ancoats as part of the 2025 Manchester Folk Festival…we’ve never met and hopefully, will get chance to chat at that time.
For fellow fans/many here….great news and previews of Lisa and Gerry’s album, ‘Hinterland’ are online,as well as details of how supporters can help via Kickstarter funding….
Both musicians have Waterson links ,via Marry – Lal’s daughter…a brilliant musician and animator…Marry’s visuals go so well with such imaginative music …worth a YouTube trawl.
