Agree with Ger, it was an uplifting gig in theVicar on Saturday night, you were in top form from your solo set right til the end, what a great sound. I had a nephew with me , loved it..I was at the same tabe as Mrs.Dunne and her harmonies during ” Sullivans John ” was a great earfull, she was enjoying every minute. Will always come to see gigs as great as that, and hope they are already in the works…have a great week..
Amazing gig in Vicar Street, incredble backing from Máirtín, Cathal , Seamie and Jimmy, loved the backing singing, had hairs in the back of the neck tingling. Also fantastic job today, thank you. That piece you read out was inspired, that chap must have been delighted and the wise and holy woman was looking down on all of us smiling. The rainbow that rose in the valley of tears…..

When I heard these 4 musicians play in Dublin last year I got an urge to sing with them….I spoke to Paddy Doherty about the possibilty and the journey began…..they are working musicians all involved in different bands, projects and sessions so it has taken a lot of scheduling for us all to be available at the same time. Last night was our fourth outing…we have had limited rehearsal opportunities but its coming together at an easy pace…whats most important is that we are all enjoying the music making…we’re having fun, making some good sounds and, hopefully, we will keep it going this way for many good nights to come….thanks for the feedback…Today in Avondale was a good gathering….hopefully this is the start of a movement that will make a difference
Been cross the ocean the last four years now!! she’s hefty for the head at times. The educated escapism is the sauce….me best friend and worse enemy!!! Instinctively ya become extremely patriotic….honest to god your music has comforted my thoughts to peacefulness.

Been to see you 3 times already and loved every one of them, not seen you in a few years now though. Thanks, Luke

When I was up there I found my element…I nearly melted in Brisbane but chilled out in Byron Bay…thanks for your feedback on The Box 1964-2004….just putting the finishing touches to another Box.It was not scheduled for release until Easter 2016 but obsession kicked in. I decided ’twas better not to leave it to chance. What with thon Korean rumbles, asteroids straying off course, the spread of fracking, fluoride in our tea,…hows things in QLD Rosy?…..Christy PS I dont suppose you are Rose Costello late of County Kildare ?
Read the copy of an article titled “obedient Shit- takers” on FB. My comment to it was as follows – can you write a song or would you like me to?
just want to see a brighter future for my children and all the children of other families of good intention.
Third time lucky….. “Die breite Masse ist blind und dumm und weiß nicht, was sie tut.” A quotation from an infamous Austrian with a funny tash that ruled zee fatherland for what he believed would be a thousand years. It translates to “the majority of people are blind and stupid and haven’t a clue.” He based his reign of terror on this assumption and drove that nation into the ground because they were such hard working obiedent citizens and for the sake of self-preservation complied to his theory and most likely, for the greater part rather unwillingly.
So my point to Christy’s comment “We’ve become a nation of obedient shit-takers.” Yes true so what do we do? My suggestion is send Herr Kenny and those above him a serious message – as was once said by the infamous CJ Haughy “An Irish solution to an Irish problem.” Or to pick the words of a famous Englishman much loved on Erin’s green shores “Put ‘em under pressure.”
Pick a weekend that doesn’t run into a bank holiday Monday. Celebrate with music, song and dance in ALL 32 counties. Monday morning every employed worker of a large multinational phones in sick with depression for at least 1 week. Those on the dole will have to be up early and march on Leinster House to block the gates of our parliament. This might just send out the ripple that will wake up those arse lickers of lobbyists in our EU parliament and national governments and all without violence. Imagine Ireland setting the scene and being followed by Greece, Cyprus, Italy, Spain, Portugal, France, England, Poland, Estonia, Hungary, Czech Republic……. Eventually the other Teutonic states would cop on and follow suit. They (the powers that be) have the longer end of the lever but if we all pulled together and threw our weight on the opposite end we could break their backs with our sheer mass.
Hello again Christy. Liz and I and our great friends Malachy and Sue Hagan are looking forward once again to another gig at the Hay Festival. Thanks once again for being so generous in allowing me to record a few of your songs.
I sing Viva La Quinte Brigada in C, rather than G now, thanks to the advice of singer Rosa Rebecka who I went to for a vocal lesson some months ago. I have sung Morecambe Bay many times now. Thanks to Kevin Littlewood and yourself. Perhaps we can say hello to you at Hay. No problem though if it’s not possible.
Finally, at the risk of being pushy, it would be brilliant if you and Declan could hit The Plough Arts Centre in Torrington some time. What a thrill that would be. Here’s a link:
Hi Christy, I accidentally discovered Jango and am loving it. I expect you know of it already? It’s a site that lets you type in an artist’s name and then listen to that artist and similar types of music.
I’ve just listened to a haunting little tune by a band called Smitty’s Kitchen and now your brother’s just popped up!
By the way, when you’ve replied to me in the past, you mentioned PNE so must tell you that one of my son’s good friends is playing for them and doing really well at the moment. He’s called Will Hayhurst and he’s always been a lovely lad.
Well, that’s it, hope you’re having a good day

sang it on Monday night for the South African Ambassador. There is exhibition marking the Irish Anti-Apartheid Movement’s contribution to Civil Rights in South Africa. He invited me to sing Biko Drum and The Dunnes Stores Strike Song. A great gathering of nations in City Hall where the exhibtion runs for the next month
My parents are going to see you this Saturday in Dublin.
We’d really appreciate it if you could give a shout out to our mum – Rosemary Hughes.
Last year she was diagnosed with brain cancer. She’s since had radiotherapy, which wasn’t successful and is currently undergoing chemo. Throughout, she has been nothing but dignified and determined. She has always had a ‘get up and go’ attitude and thankfully, that has stood her in good stead.
This is the second booking she’s made for your show in the past 6 months. She did have tickets for December but had to cancel last-minute due to a family bereavement. Chemo or no chemo, she was going to see you this time round!
It would be great if you could oblige us with this. Any queries, please get back to me directly to my email address.
Thank you!

Hi Christy,
I was looking to come to the gig on Saturday in Vicar Street with my girlfriend (2 students).
From growing up with your music on and it becoming a sound track to family days out, I was under the impression you were a man of the people almost a man of the working class. So it was to my disgust and disbelief when I went to buy tickets it totalled 111 euro for 2. Now I know there was balcony tickets for 5 euro cheaper but with the possibility of a restricted view-no thanks.
I often go to vicar street to see bands that come in from UK/Canada/USA and the ticket prices are always between 20-30 euro. I could go see a full scaled production of the Lion King in the bord gais ET straight from Londons west end for 30 euro.
Shame on you Christy for ripping off the people
