We’re really looking forward to seeing you this evening. First time we can come as a family with all my daughters! Can’t wait!
Any chance of Little Musgrave, The Voyage or Back home in Derry?
Hi Christy, looking forward to later, any chance ya could dedicate beeswing to Louise Kelly, we are just leaving her grandmother’s funeral to head to the show. It’s her favourite song. She’d be made up.
Paddy always came to Barrowland…..”Scapegoats” became an anthem there…the entire audience sang it with me every time….such a sound man was Paddy….I cherish memories of time spent in his company
Saddened hearing abouth the passing of Paddy Hill,
A legend in the fight to expose the miscarriages of justice perpetrated by the British state.
R.I.P Paddy.
Christy's reply
very sorry to read of Paddy’s death…. a man of courage and compassion who’s life was ruined by a corrupt English Police Force and Judiciary….upon his release he dedicated the remainder of his life to exposing Miscarriages of Justice …it was a privilige to meet and befriend Paddy Hill…..let us remember
Five men playing poker on the Heysham Train
Fate was dealing them a cruel hand
Hugh Callaghan walking home thru the evening rain
not knowing what lay in store for him
There’s traces of Nitro on cigarettes and matches

For the 3rd year running I have the enormous pleasure of seeing you at Vicar ST – looking forward to hearing a terrible beauty post launch. If the evening takes us there, I would love to hear any of your much older tracks/covers – Dunnes Stores, Little Musgrave, Nuke Power, Metropolitan Avenue, Radcliffe Highway. If not, there’s always early next year 😎
Fair play to you

what a basket of ballads Oscar…you mention 5 songs that have been a long time in cold storage…..only yesterday I was having a whirl with Dunne’s Stores….but its not currently fit for purpose, needs service, spit and polish….Little Musgrave has not featured for 7 years but always lingers in the memory, rightly or wrongly I feel it needs an accomplice to flesh it out …that said, I gigged it solo for 10 years in the 70s/80s……Nuke Power last featured on the 1979 Late Late Show…the only time I ever sang Radcliffe Highway was for the Box-Set (1964-2004) …..Metropolitan Avenue featured at every sound check and rehearsal when Declan Sinnott and I were playing together…I love singing that song but could never get it into gear in the gig setting…

Hi Christy
I have just being informed “The Yellow Furze” bus has just got its annual service and is currently on the runway being refuelled for its once yearly trip to Vicar St, unfortunately our friend from Jacksonville was unable to make the trip this year, but still talks about her night in Vicar St and says never be forgotten, for tomorrow night you will have three of Conor and Nancy’s grandchildren, Emma and Brian , Patty’s children plus Aisling one of my twin daughters and her boyfriend Cormac , all are huge fans and have been many times before , all looking forward to the usual great night , the highlight of the musical year.
Let’s hope many more to come . If it was possible a few bars of The Honda Fifty would add further to the enjoyment
Best wishes from all in The Yellow Furze/ Ardmulchan/Cotton Mills/Hayestown

Christy,
Wrote to you a few months back… When my wife asked me two years ago how I wanted to celebrate my 50th, there was only one answer…seeing you live. I can’t believe it’s finally here.
Can’t thank you enough for connecting me with Paddy–he’s been oh so helpful. We’re in Glasgow at the moment, but the wife and I are flying over in the morning for the Vicar street show. The new album steadily on repeat… Thank you for sharing your gift with all of us for oh so many years.

Hope you have a good trip, that your 50th treat brings joy and satisfaction….we’ll break some new ground tonight
Tomorrow I’ll say to my husband:
The time has come to part, my dear
I must go away
I’m flying now to vicar street
No longer can I wait.
See you Monday.
With love from Belgium
Christy's reply
I hope the good man will keep the place neat and tidy while you are off gallivanting on Paddy’s Green Shamrock Shore
Dear Christy,
How dare you be 79. I was with our mutual friend Finbar the other day and he said, “you won’t get him out here. But I wouldn’t make the decision for him. Write to him on his website. Tell him what you are doing and see what he says.” I’m seeing him this Saturday.
Most importantly, I hope this letter finds you happy. To give you reference, I am in Boston, I’m some Irish, Scottish and Ukraine mostly. We are all destined to be independent, I am fiercely.
I volunteer/am on the board at the Irish Social Club of Boston (non-profit) with my better half, Rob, (Trustee) who is quite loveable. He’s the 20% Wicklow Byrne I traced back to 643AD in Kildare for his family reunion of 300 that we threw. Follow Me Up to Carlow is his family and his cherished song. What I wouldn’t give to hear you sing it. Planxty is the best version, not just saying that.
Many places were built by his Irish ancestors but no credit given. The Revolutionary War, same, now friend David Kincaid (performing) shows the same in the Civil War. And then Derek, what I did to get St. Patrick’s weekend I’ll never tell. Spins Rebel Songs like thread. (And I am hosting in my house a Rebel Band from Limerick for their 1st 2 wk tour in the US same time)
“The Irish Contribution to America” is not in history books. We’re bringing it to light 4/17-4/20. Derek’s making another stop by before going home for the Easter Rising. Kelly Sullivan of the Sullivan bros, an Irish Delegation, Pipes and Drums Band, are here etc. Friday is 6 venues of Boston Irish Bands here in Arlington, MA where we live and where the bloodiest battle/skirmish took place. It is also where the Irish came from 5 towns around to join the Minutemen on Mass Ave in front of our home. On Sunday, to the Irish Social Club of Boston to celebrate with Music, Musicians who know the history of a people forgotten. Catering Easter for the first few hundred. Our max is 650 people. It is the Country’s 250th Birthday of the Shot Heard Around the World.
Private, cushy, high end hotel at the airport where my friend works with a driver and you can show up to a comfortable VIP location until playing for two (?) hours at the end of the day and then go back to bed that night for a flight minutes away first thing in the morning. You need doctors, acupuncturists, muscular therapists, chiropractors? You name it. You can even have my cell number, lol.
Christy, I can get every band around here to play this (and am just about on Friday and Sunday). This is a very important event that can’t happen without you. You are a symbol of what your ancestors were reaching for. To speak freely, not hidden out of sight, without identity. And by our elevated standards, be rightfully identified for contributions not just to the US but the world.

Hi C. As we come to the close of another great year of gigs it is worthing note how you have continued to highlight many important issues both in Ireland and around the globe. Many times during gigs you mentioned the court case involving Ms O Brien, this is an excellent overview of that shameful episode https://www.rte.ie/news/ireland/2024/1227/1488257-natasha-obrien-assault/ Thank you for constantly shining a light on these injustices and long may you continue.GRMMA, beir bua agus beannacht. Christy, I turned loads of family members on to you and saw you after years of hoping to see you at the Guinness Fleadh in 1997 at Randall’s Island. I used to think you didn’t want to come back to America after that since most of the crowd was so ill-behaved. Anyway, I know that can’t be true BUT I really hope you’ll fly over the pond again and play for us. I’d be seeing you anywhere you came to if you did. I’m also going to try to get to one of your summer gigs in Ireland in 2025 because I refuse not to see you again even if it’s me doing the flying. Good luck on the 30th and hope you have a great gig. Hi Christy,
40 miles from the birthplace of Jesus, war is being waged against Hospitals, Babies and Children
Belfast’s own Andy White is well worth supporting with his Gaza EP on Bandcamp, moving, emotional, honest.
A time for Celebration? Not sure what Jesus would have made of the war against hospitals, babies and children, as one of the last hospitals in Gaza burn under siege ,but i guess netanyahu does not care.
