Jaysus Christy what a gig last night, I know ya missed my comment yesterday, but the missus was in tears with the encore. Thank you again. And hearing the little Honda 50, her granny used to have one till she was nearly 80, passed away Christmas Day. That ks again for a great night. Had us on the edge of the seats.

I picture the image of your late Grandmother astride her Honda 50 at the ripe old age of 80….(her tearing past the Gatso with Chief InspectorMartin Callinan asleep in the back)
when my Mother died in 1992 she got a great send off from the people of Newbridge…there among the mourning crowd was Conor Brennan…at almost 80 he had ridden his Honda 50 from the Yellow Furze in County Meath to pay respects to his old neighbour Nancy Power
Myself and my wife will be in Ireland for a short trip home in January. I know the January 12th gig is sold out but can anyone tell me where I could possibly get 2 tickets. Maybe someone has to cancel? I’m trying Ticketmaster but so far no luck.
Is there any truth in the rumour Christy that the Whacker McShane went back to Douglas Head?

he never left Gipp….before the row broke out he was dancing with a Liverpool girl…after he left the nick next morning he bumped in to her again….they went for a few sherbets ..one thing led to another and before he knew it he was head over heels…they tied the knot and went back to the Isle of Man for the Honeymoon….Whacker got a job in the Douglas Head, Matilda opened a Hair salon….they come home every year…I met them at Leopardstown on Stephen’s day….he never lost it… reared up on a Bookie after the 2.30… the Guards had to be called..poor Matilda was mortified
Congratulations Christy, by all accounts you are ending 2024 as you started it by ‘knocking it out the park’ at Vicar Street. I watched an interesting programme on BBC4 last night, Berlin 1933 (the first of three). It’s about Hitlers rise to power and told through the letters and diaries of normal Berlin citizens at the time. It tells how the Nazies encouraged hatred and division, how they used the ‘new’ media of radio (read social media for today) to spread their propaganda. How they ingratiated themselves with big business to raise funds and even planned a fake assassination attempt on Hitler to gain sympathy for their party & cause and how they viewed democracy as a cancer.
Over 90 years ago but frightening parallels to what is happening all around the world today, well worth a view if you get a chance. No Pasaran, John

Hello Christy,
I’m learning a new song. Come Up the Stairs by Shay Healy.
Learnt it from Katie Theasby.
It’s a gorgeous rollicking love song that rolls along. It’s got a wild story to it too.
“Then up rose a sea-faring
He was 40 foot long now and more
He took one look at my rugged features
And offered to take us ashore”
It’s all change here with Holyhead port being closed.
We’ll be off up to Cairnryan later this week, given a fair wind behind us, for what I’m hoping will be a quick and uneventful flit over the water to Belfast.

enjoy the journey….its a nice trip…safe travelling
What I love about the 3 or 4 gigs I’ve been to in the past two months is that each one is so different yet equally as brilliant, moving and hilarious as the next. Never a repeated set list and some great surprises in each set. I love Johnny Boy into Ride On and Nancy always holds a special place for me. Hasn’t heard Missing You for a while and was gorgeous along with No Time For Love as we sat beside the man who wrote it…Andy from California won’t forget his 50th…he was near carried out shoulder high after the show..loving the wishes from everyone. Always leave a show uplifted and smiling, especially with a few of Wally Page/CM songs in the mix…meself and Jim chatted about the songs as we headed home via Burdocks and listened to some Moving Hearts and Planxty for a couple hours after. Much love to you Christy and all your crew and all around you for a very happy new year and thank you for another year on the never ending tour…

Jasus Lar…what table were you at.?…were they handin out E or tabs of acid?
Hi Christy
Yesterday i had a listen to Prosperous and to Paddy on the Road.
From Prosperous i often think James Connolly is my favourite track but Lock Hospital ran it close on that spin.
However from Paddy on the Road i do enjoy James Larkin but while listening i was reminded that when i saw the Mary Wallopers at Barrowland just before Christmas they performed a decent enough version of the title track itself…Paddy on the Road.

I heard them on the radio last night playing a tracks from the 3rd Planxty album… they made a good job of it too….there are detractors but I say…More Power To The Mary Wallopers….fuck the begrudgers…it was the same when The Pogues hit the road… some auld gobshites had calliptions….lets keep the process in motion…my head was turned by The Clancy Brothers 65 years ago…(reactionary forces of the day were appalled by theis new sound and irreverence.)….
“As I was goin over the Cork & Kerry Mountains
I met Captain Farrell and his money he was countin”
Still today I recall that Clancy Concert in 1962 (ish)…best gig I ever attended
What an amazing gig tonight! Sorry to say it’s been a long time since I’ve seen you play but it was worth the weight, such power in each and every song, an incredible mix of old and new, and it was obvious to everyone that you were enjoying the vibe in the room.
Thank you for a spectacular gig Christy, can’t wait to come back up for the gig on Jan 20th.

and Thank You All for creating the atmosphere that inspires the performance…could not do it without YE…..Shine On
Christy,
Weak in the knees, still pinching myself to see if that was all a dream, no chance I’ll get even a wink of sleep tonight. Best Birthday ever!
When we got back to the hotel, the wife asked what my favorite song was… Scapegoats has always been at the top of my list of favorites. That atmosphere on that recording from the Barrowlands on the box set will raise the hair on your neck. Jaysus! Hadn’t heard the tragic news and so wasn’t expecting it. May Paddy Joe Rest in Power.
You are such a treasure to so many. Thank heavens for the bank teller’s strike! Can’t ever thank you enough for all you give…
Good evening Christy. On board the late bus after a magical night in Vicar st thanks to your good self
From once you came on stage you had the crowd wrapped around your finger
I couldn’t have asked for a more memorable way to end 2024
Table 6 is a very treasured spot
Thanks to Hilary as usual and my Rebel friends Tony and Fiona.I hope you and your family have a great 2025
Let the music keep our spirits high

Sad to learn today of the passing of Paddy Joe Hill. Never had the pleasure of meeting him though I was lucky enough to meet Johnny Walker, and Paddy Armstrong of the Guildford Four. What those guys suffered was beyond words. Thanks to the likes of yourself who pleaded their case and kept them from being forgotten. The scales of justice never really balanced up their act. May he rest easy tonight.

Ok folks, we’re back at base camp. Stay on the ground. Those forays outwards and upwards can lead to danger unless approved by air traffic control.
beware of low flying seagulls

All the very best to you & yours for 2025……

As the shade of night fell down….

maybe i got that wrong about the songwriter ??
