It is remarkable how many persons have registered lately on the 4711ers sister site – that‘s kind of a Christy Moore fan forum sharing setlists, songs, concert reviews, opinions or just fun. I have counted some 70 new registrations alone in the past 3 weeks … It’s a good thing to have so many new people aboard who love Christy’s songs. To those who joined recently – please feel free to introduce yourself and tell us how and when you got into Christy’s music. There is a thread in the ‚General‘ section for this purpose: http://4711ers.org/viewtopic.php?t=716 This is supposed to be an interactive forum, so don’t be shy !!!
Christy's reply
I drop into 4711ers most days…like to read what the gaggle are getting upto….it has been an interesting development in my working life since both these forums emerged …a community has emerged,some to stay, others to linger and fly away again ( a bit like the songs themselves)…..this all began with Pete maybe 10 years ago, anyone remember the sequence of developments, is Pete still dropping in ?
Dear Christy
My name is Hilary Daly and I work in the human rights team inTrocaire. We are holding the launch of a photo exhibition of the genocide case in Guatemala in Dublin on 16th July from 6.00 to 7.30pm. I know you have been a long time ally and supporter of social movements and human rights activists in Latin America and I’m sure you will have followed the recent events in Guatemala- after 30 years, the former general Rios Montt was finally brought to trial on charges of genocide carried out during Guatemala’s 36 year armed conflict, though the guilty verdict against him was overturned subsequently, ( the trial will resume next year) the fact that he was charged and brought to trial is a testament to the courage of the survivors of the massacres, forced disappearances, sexual violence and grave human rights abuses carried out during the war. Trocaire’s connection is that we have supported local human rights activists to gather evidence and accompany the survivors during the long struggle for justice. A Trocaire colleague attended the trial in Guatemala and we have some very strong images in the exhibition
We would be very honoured if you would consider coming to the exhibition launch, and we also wondered if there is any possibility that you would consider playing some music at the launch event ?
I should emphasise that we don’t have a fundraising agenda with this event, we are seeking to raise awareness of what happened in Guatemala and the work that our partners do there and in other extremely difficult contexts such as Palestine, Zimbabwe and Kenya to defend human rights.
If there is a possibility of you playing at or attending the launch could you please contact me on 0861609338 or hdaly@trocaire.ie
If you need any further information please let me know.
Kind regards
Hilary
Christy's reply

Dear Christy,
It is with absolute horror that I realized that you will be taking a vacation this year at the most inopportune time. Looks like you are taking the month of September off, exactly at the time when we will be in Ireland and now I feel deprived of being able to catch one of your shows. I suppose I need to try and convince you to grab your guitar and just take a little trip to Donegal, walk into a pub unannounced and have a little jam session so we get to shake your hand. 🙂
Christy's reply
never fear Juergen, there will be lots to hear upon the Island in September, you might hear “3 Lovely Lassies from Bannion”, “McNamaras Band” “Tim Finnegan ” “Mick Mc Gilligan’s Daughter” “The Finding of Moses” These are sung every night in odd sheebeens around the country…
… also keep an eye on the gig page,sometimes gigs emerge out of the blue, we never know what might happen now that Angela is pulling our strings…hope you have a great trip and find what you’re looking for

Have’nt had a Christy gig in a little while now but spent a nice afternoon chatting with Barry in Doolin recently….so he was like a Moore nicotine patch and a pure gentleman . Heading to Sting now on monday i’ll tell him warm up the tent for ya, Do do do de da da da….

Hi Christy the thought struck me today it was this night 24 years ago you played The Temperance Hall in Loughrea I think we will soon have to get you back by the grey lake have a good one in Mohill did a few weddings there a grand spot and I’d say the Long puck out should do the trick in Westport
Christy's reply
I have a vague recollection of that 1989 gig Iggy….but that I have total recall of a Planxty gig there one Sunday night in 1972… Donal Lunny was wearing a fur coat..I had clogs and keks made from psychedelic curtain material..I was going through a far amach phase but I blew a fuse..we played the Kon Tiki in Lanesboro the night before and Tourmakeady for Fr Des the night after…it was all Bulmers and sunstroke
Hiya Christy, hope all is good with you. I’m lying back here in the scratcher watching Vincent Browne, Jayus I can’t take much more of this banking bullshit. What chance the “Ordinary Man” in this Country I ask? Time to switch Vincent off and read a wee bit before shuteye, Shatters book looks a bit saucy, talk of “her digging her fingers into his back moaning and gasping for breath as he overflows on her slender body” some man for one man our minister for justice. On a more positive note at least the football is going somewhat to plan… Donegal march on, not as impressively as many in the Hills would have expected but they march on nevertheless. Hope the Leitrim gig goes well on Wednesday night, sadly I can’t make it Will catch up in Whelan’s next month though. Love & Respect Martin Mac
Christy's reply

Hi, Christy – I wonder if you might like to have a go at coverting the following self-penned rhyme into a song, please? I’d be honoured, if you could…
Solitude
All alone, so I wandered
Through valley and field,
I strolled and I pondered
As emotions healed;
I roved and meandered,
My pain unconcealed,
Great anvil clouds thundered
My anger revealed.
The rainstorm collected
Near black, overhead,
I walked, unprotected,
Uncaring, unfed;
Slow paces, dejected,
My aching heart bled,
That girl I’d respected –
What would she have said?
A stream, gently turning,
A bridge, low and long,
My swollen eyes burning,
My bitterness, strong;
I still felt the yearning
Just like an old song,
The passion still churning –
Where had I gone wrong?
I leaned on the railing,
The stream drew my gaze,
I saw the clouds sailing,
As I stood in a daze;
I felt my mind failing,
Still trapped in her ways,
My memories paling,
Her face, now a haze.
I ambled on slowly,
My bones chilling through,
Morale very lowly,
In misery, blue;
I’d loved her so wholly,
I’d worshipped her, true,
I’d lived for her solely –
What was I to do?
Oh, why was she leaving?
I just didn’t know,
She’d had me believing
That she loved me so;
No chance of retrieving
That wonderful glow,
So now, I stand grieving,
Like the stream, my tears flow…
Christy- Any idea when you are next in Birmingham.
also have just heard of the gathering in Co Kildare 9th Augustfor the McCormacks .My Dad is 84 this year and I am hoping I can take him back for the McCormack ‘gathering’ .I have great memories of visiting Donnellys hollow and the Hideout pub as a child.Don’t suppose you will be back in Kildare at that time.Dad often mentions that he remembers your family.

Enjoyed the tribute to Robbie McMahon – sounds like he was a true entertainer http://www.rte.ie/radio/utils/radioplayer/rteradioweb.html#!rii=9%3A10157991%3A1852%3A23%2D06%2D2013%3A
Found this little trailer of a film about him too http://lastnightasilaydreaming.com/index.php/trailer
