Christy & Dec , quite simply ….What a Show !! Thanks for the music guys !! You are worth the journey always …..with work we ended up having to rush to get there in time but without doubt never dissapointed .

heyJimi…still buzzin after last nights fun…woke up wishin it was 12 to find its only 7am, not nearly enough kip ,maybe few taps on the keyboard will settle me down..playing in ballyvourney tonight for peader o’ríada…one of our chieftains, he carries the flame that sustains us…he bears his father’s legacy and shares out the largesse that such a legacy creates…he harvests the honey, cares for the bees, tends to his people…every seven years he he gathers together Féile na Laoch, what I believe to be ,by far, the best Festival I have ever attended…only 5 years to go to the next gathering which takes place upon the banks of Ireland’s only female river
Wow what a game they all played a part in a brilliant win,Herd that O’driscoll went up to Jonathan Davies to congratulate him after the team selection, that shows that he is a gentleman and a true sportsman,Have a good weekend in the tent Christy.
Christy's reply
we had a great night on The Banks of The Lee…never so much fun in a tent..they came down from the mountains and up from the glens…we had listeners there from Oz, Sth Africa, Essex, USA, even a few out from Pana including our great number 4 Donnaca O’Callaghan who helped me cool off after the gig..my niece Saoirse and nephew Cillian, Naoise Comerford was there too and after met a few 4711ers Hilary Lar and Dave….Dave has attended our Marquee gigs every year for the last 9 years…anyone else done that ?? Con and Lorraine came the 2 youngest listeners in the tent last night and them lookin for the Honda 50 and 16 Fishermen raving ( neither of which got a run out )
It’s late and the mind is empty now. I simply wanted to tell you that your being and your music continue to resound on this side of the big water. I read here, on the other site, and view the photos and videos shared. I still dream of another journey to the island, for I feel at home when I’m there. An old song came to me tonight, and I dug through papers to find the words so I could sing it. Both my grandfathers died before I was born. It wasn’t easy to get stories about them. The bits I was able to pry loose from family elders gave me glimpses, and I had to invent the rest, using the divining rod of imagination. I know that one sang and played the pump organ at railroad parties at the hall on Coteau Street; they’d take the organ there on a wagon in summer, on a sleigh in winter. One uncle said he was a ‘spider on the keys’. The other grandfather was quieter, either mysterious or spirit-charmed, or both. One aunt said he preferred children to adults, that he was a storyteller. He’s the one I wrote of in the song. The chorus goes, “Grandfather speaks, says, ‘This is yours’ / And sweeps his open hand / Across bright waves of barley / His arm a sacred wand / Who would doubt his wisdom? / He outlived all the wars / Bless the seeds he planted / ‘These barley fields are yours’…” Have a grand day, Christy. ~ DL

I hope some day to hear you sing your Grandfather’s song….what were your Grandfather’s names ? I often think of Jack Power, ( 1895-1958 approx) my maternal Grandfather. His people came from Oylgate in Wexford. His father moved to Hayestown Co Meath where Jack grew up upon the banks of The River Boyne. He met and loved Ellie Sheeran from The Cotton Mills and their 2 children were Jimmy Power and my Mother Nancy. My paternal Grandfather was Christopher Moore (1855 -1919 approx ) He hailed from Athlone on The River Shannon. He was a Bank Manager who came to Kildare at the start of the 1900’s. Aged 60 he married my Grandmother Brigid Dowling when he was 60 and she was but 21. Their only child was my father Andy Moore. I never met Christopher Moore nor never spoke with anyone about him. He remains a mystery to me for he died when our father was but 4. ( Daddy himself, in turn, passed when I was but 11) I feel very fortunate to have spent a lot of time with Jack Power, he remains an inspiration to me to this very day. Thanks Doug for bringing on this reflection.
Can’t believe it’s 35 years since Matt Molloy was in Planxty. Great nights in Connolly Hall. See you in the tent.

we had a great journey together in Planxty Mark 3….when Liam and Matt cranked up the reels that band used to soar….first we took Mountbellew, then we took Elphin
Good morning Christy,
Glad to read the “Ballad of Patrick Murphy” is on your mind. Just heard John Spillane singing this song you mentioned below at a great gig in Kenmare six weeks ago. Hope your consideration will bear fruit … Would like to listen to your version too some day.
John also sang beautiful “Gortatagort” that night. What a treat to hear my favourite from the both of you during our island trip!
Enjoy your summer weekend in Cork! Best of Luck, Traudel
Christy's reply
I have known of this song for the past year…I’m finally finding my way in to sing it…found the depth..it contains the most powerful statement of forgiveness..
Morning Christy make sure you take the sun block with you today it’s going to be a scorcher of a weekend,Hope Gatland has made the right choice,North for the try line.
Christy's reply
Morra Ger…first and second tests decided in the last minute, cant get any closer then that…it has been both exhilerating and frustrating…all the talk here dominated by Brian O’Driscoll’s exclusion…the only one who seems to have accepted it is Brian himself, I would not expect anything less from him. He has always shown himself to be a team player. I only hope he might continue for another year or two for club and country. Lets all get behind Gatland and forget our differences until the job is done.
Looking forward to our weekend away in Cork (with a little help from Ryanair). Staying in Clarion Hotel and looking forward to the tent on Saturday! Always seems to be a good concert there. How about a go at “Magic Nights” as i think the Lobby Bar used to be in Cork. Am i right? Good luck. Hope all goes well.
Christy's reply
The Lobby Bar was at the very heart of the music down by The Lee….your spot on Boy..maybe we’ll give it a birl on Sat
Christy, am resigned that you won’t come to Oz, so have planned a trip to Ireland around your upcoming Cork gig. Did the same in 2008 for Killarney INEC Gigs (attended both). You are costing us a fortune but money well spent. We will be in the front row on Saturday 6/7/2013, so you may want to give us a shout. My wife Patty loves Beeswing so please give some consideration to adding that to your playlist.
Thanks mate
Christy's reply
She must be a rare thing, fine as a Beeswing and the pair of ye flying all the way up to Cork….you’ll be so close I wont need to shout…I’ll whisper it in your ears….

Westport Festival was just about perfect..the setting is beautiful, the house itself historical and welcoming, the audience were happy and tuneful as they sang their hearts out and heads off, the sound was very good, ( I heard The Waterboys and The Buena Vista ) there was no sign of mad-out-it-ness, lots of families and youngsters and a good scattering of my own contemporaries apparently enjoying extended middle age….after the gig I went to Matt Molloy’s where I heard a great session of Reels with Matt himself at the heart of it , even got to sing a song there which I have been meaning to do for the last 23 years..hope tp do a gig there with Matt this year.. Trying to think back how the 4711 community unfolded, I know a number of us got in contact when the guestbook opened on the CM site, that must’ve been in 2004.
In the early days of the guestbook the e-mail address of the poster was shown, that’s how we got in touch.
In 2005 Ben Larkin started a Forum, independently Reuben started another Forum, in 2006 we merged them and that became the 4711 Forum we use and love to this very day.
As for the number of registered users on the 4711 Forum I am sorry to have to tell you that most are not active, spammers have opened a lot of accounts and have left them unused, the admin tools on the site don’t allow us to filter inactive users and perform a cull.
So 2004 will be the 10th anniversary of the first 4711ers getting together, time for another 4711ers gathering?
