Ok, Ok, Christy. This is a bit of a large question. Now, right to it. What is the all time best. The very best now,…… Irish love song. You know, I did a YouTube search for a German love song. My God, they were horrible! So, please, your favorite Irish Love song Christy. God Bless, Thanks Man.
You went in a Tiger Moth! Cool! 🙂 The kid went in one and that’s when she decided she wanted to fly. I guess it’s in the blood. My Pa came over in 1953 as aircraft apprentice for the RAF. He was 16. The kid wants to do the same.
The summer’s going well. Just saw Stuart Broad take out the Aussies. I don’t really follow it except when I’m with Daddy because he watches it religiously. I mean literally we are not allowed to speak when the cricket’s on. And we’re not allowed to speak when David Attenborough’s on either. xx
Christy's reply
David Attenborough is well able to speak…saw him with Bjork last week on the telly, the poor girl could’nt get a word in edgeways, and she is no daw herself when it comes to talkin, but she is brilliant with it ( as, of course, is Attenborough himself..he’d get a TV series out of a spider havin a shite. )…the only time we were not allowed to speak was back in 1957 when Mammy decided to start saying the rosary in the house every night….thanks be to jasus she gave it up after a week as the knees were nearly wore off us kneelin on the kitchen floor….

“Jim Cork” very sad news about Crowleys, and Rory was a customer and friend as well. I know the feeling, I had to close my Bar after 97 years in the family, you get no help, our traditional ways of life and values are been eroded by our “euromasters”, could go on…………….. Sorry Jim,I think de Dubs will beat Cork today.
Christy's reply
Right about the euromasters but wrong about The Dubs
Not sure if you heard Christy, but sad news today in Cork. Crowleys Music Store closed it’s doors for the last time today after 87 years of starting musicians on the road. I bought my first guitar in there from Mick, and today I had the sad privilege of being the last Customer of what was an institution in Cork City. My son Cillian bought his first guitar today on the last day of the shop’s existence, he’ll have that memory for many years but he, like all of us, will no longer have the advice and help of Sheena, Noel and Trevor who have tried, since Mick’s death 3 years ago, to keep the ship afloat. It’s a sad day for Cork musicians of all ages…
Christy's reply
this is indeed bad news…I have many memories of visiting Crowleys…first time was in 1972 when I was with Planxty.I bought a Gibson from from Mick.Later I got a Mandolin there and in the mid 80s a Yamaha FG 180 formerly owned by Hal O’Neill. They always had a great selection of second hand instruments, were always helpful in every way. Sorry to say I have not been in much these past 10 years. I send best wishes to Sheena, Noel and Trevor and hope that they soon find a new path to travel

Hi there. Keeping good I hope. If you ever get a chance to have a listen on Soundcloud I have put one of my own songs on there I wrote for my son. Username is FrankieByrne.
Take care of yourself.
Hi Christy,
I will be in Ireland traveling with my family Sept 8-13 and am wondering if you are planning any gigs during that time. My husband is from Dublin and his lovely parents have planned a trip up north to show us our family’s roots. My folks are from Kentucky. They turn 70 this year and they have never taken this trip. I saw the Carlow and Limerick dates later in the month, so I thought it’d be worth checking as we make our plans.
All the best to you. Many thanks for all the beautiful songs and heartfelt expression. Your music is a treasure,
Lee
Hi Christy,Hope you are well.Saw you with my son in Vicar St.before X-Mas.Brilliant!Sent you a song of mine last year. Here is another one about the closing of Smithwicks Brewery, where I have worked as a beer tester!! for 30 years.I have sang it at my gigs and on local radio, but have not recorded it yet.Mabey you can use it?
Changes are A-Brewing. (Key of D)
The clanging of the bottles and kegs,
Will ne’er be heard no more,
The clip-clop of the Clydesdales,
Is now cast into folklore.
The hooter blast,
That called to work
Is now silent in the factory yard,
Technology for what its worth,
Has played its faithful card.
For three hundred and three long years,
She served us very well,
Through struggle and strife she stood the test,
And the truth to you I’ll tell,
Many people they have worked there,
When malt and hops did fill the air,
But progress brewed up that final storm,
And laid the factory bare.
CHOROUS
To you and me,
That was the brewery,
Her passing has left a scar,
It must not become a memory
It’s part of who we are.
The monks who prayed within her walls
Are now lost in the mists of time,
The coopers and the draymen,
The ale and the barley wine,
Future generations came too late to carry on,
That noblest of traditions,
Soon to be long gone.
CHOROUS.
But we wont forget in years to come ,
The legacy she has made,
And at each social gathering,
A parting glass we’ll raise,
To say farewell to an era,
The likes we’ll never see again,
When work was more than just a job,
Done with loyalty to the end.
CHOROUS.
Hope you like it.Godbless Christy!Pat Wall Tel.0868672263 Ride on on that Honda 50!

I am singing Burning Times with my singing teacher at the moment and I was wondering if there was any way to get the sheet music for this fabulous song. You had some chords written up on your website………but is there anything more detailed?
It is so powerful.

Christy's reply
Dear Anna,
I regret to say that there is no sheet music available….I am unable to read or write music so I cannot help you there…if you post this same question on website 4711ers.org someone may be able to help…..it is indeed a powerful song…..it was written by Charlie Murphy from California..I first started singing it 25 years ago…..greetings to all Australian songsters…..Christy
Christy thanks for the request you played for me in Marquee this year.
Patty and I are still loitering around in Ireland. Went into a barber today for a haircut in Kilrush today. Turns out it was Jimi the Barber. We got chatting, he mentioned the Spa, I rang them, got tickets to Wednesday 21st, so will be great to see you once more before returning to Oz 4 days later. No special requests this time just looking forward to the gig. Thanks for the heads up (and the cut) Jimi.
Christy's reply
it will be very different from The Marquee…see you in The Royal Spa…
Howya Christy, it’s been a few months since I saw you last, too long in my book. How’s the vocal chords holding up? As I was saying before the folks 30th wedding anniversary is coming up, I made a nice video for the ceremony with the Voyage and another song over the top. My mums favorite song and fully applicable to their huge family and 30 years of building a happy home.
As a selfish plug I am also writing to see if any of your fellow fans would be interested in swapping me tickets for your gig in November in Derry. I bought tickets for the Saturday night but I’m off to Manchester for the game that morning. I have second row tickets (nothing beats being right up close) so I’m going to try and get a swap to see if anyone has tickets for the Friday night instead. Any takers please drop me a line….
Anyway, hope you and the loved ones are well… Ride On.
Christy's reply
Colm…try 4711ers.org with the ticket swap…if that does not work get back to us closer to the time
Dear Christy,
Thanks for your kindness and professional courtesy.
