Howya Christy,
I don’t know where to start with asking you this favour, or if it even something you could do for me, and No its not something mad, illicit, or illegal. It is just about sending a message to our Son and his Fiance. I don’t want to air all the reasons on the page but trust me when I say I have good reason to be very grateful to be alive to see the event happen and you are their favourite artist of all time. He is taking his late grandfathers Bodhran with him to the service. They are getting married to the song “The Voyage” of course. You probably think I’m a cheeky Mare but I had ask because I could not think of a better way to start their Voyage together than to hear it from you. Thanks for even taking the time to read this.
Hi Christy,
Would have loved to made the Lisdoon gigs but a combination of College, kids and gigs – the usual oul story but I’m on the last lap of this particular race so have to give it my all for the next few months. The clips I’ve seen are terrific, particularly with the additions on stage!
Anyway, I’ve been listening to this song for a while now and have even recorded it myself, but it’s a wonderful tune and one I think you could bring something special to. The bane are Canadian – they’re called the Tragically Hip and the song is called Fiddlers Green (not the one we all know and love here in Ireland!) Hope you have a listen and see if you could give it a lash! Here’s a link to it on YouTube…
When are you coming to Boston Mass to grace us with you and your music?
Christy's reply
I dont do long haul anymore Sean….been thinking of a gig online these past years ..that will be as close as I’ll get to crossing the Atlantic again..if you are interested sign up for the newsletter and we’ll keep you posted
Hey Christy
Just booked my ticket to see you for the 10th time, cannot wait already til you will be back in our little county Carlow.I’m going to see you on the saturday night in the Bernard Shaw Theatre.I have loved your music and art of story telling through your voice for as long as i can remember now.Fingers crossed i might get to shake your hand or something this time ha .I have many Christy favourites over the years but maybe as a special request you could perform The Lakes Of Ponchartrain or Only Our Rivers Run Free….. pretty please #fromyourbiggestfanx
Hi Christy,
Just wondering if you could include a song in your set for my boys, Jack 10 and Finn 8 in Sneem this Friday.. I brought them to their first gig on the 27th of September last year in the Ryston and they were in awe! The energy in the hall that night was electric, it was beautiful.. They are big little fans. The song is Butterfly (so much wine). This year I threw away the wellies and the tent and decided to follow you to Sneem instead for the Friday night fix and a little rest and relaxation in Kerry before school is back!..
Looking forward to the show.
God bless
Isobel.

lets try and send them back to scoil with a smile on their young faces
Well at long last I get the great man live, I was rared on Your sweet music and I am glad to tell ya I’m passing on to my young lad! I will be seeing you at the kilashee house and its the night of my birthday 29th November and I’m only living for that night!! Christy your a living legend!!
Hi, Brilliant concert on Thursday in Lisdoon! Been a fan for years! I could listen to you for hours! I was constantly requesting your songs in Irish bars in the channel islands!
I searched high & low for you after the concert, & quizzed the staff with no luck. Maybe in Kilkenny i’ll get to meet you.
Christy's reply
My last tour of the Channel Islands was in 1969…thats where I first heard Nancy Spain and The Crack was 90 and brought them back to The Mainland.Jersey and Guernsey were memorable but Sark out of this world. I always go into the deep undergrowth after gigs…some times I cant even find myself. In Kilkenny I go straight to the oxygen tent after the gig and then I go for a gallop around Coolcullen followed by a dip in The Coon River and a good rub down in Muckalee.
Hi Christy
The Gig the other night was so nice the songs as always were just beautiful
The songs I enjoyed the most were
Hurt ,Back home in Derry ,Missing you ,I’m a Bog man , Farmer Micheal Hayes and of course the flicker
Lisdoonvarna was also very lively and sounded great!
If the Billy Goats were at the Gig they would flip their legs and be dancing a reel to that one!
and the Magpies!
A great Gig all around Christy!
I really enjoyed it!

it was great to see ye in Lisdoon and fair play for making it in time after the fan belt leaving ye stranded be the side of the road…thanks be to that man who got ye going again..its very hard n the nervous system when something like that takes place….I was heading over The Curlew Mountains in 1978 heading for Coolara House in Co Sligo…I had a band with Kevin Burke, Jimmy Faulkner and Declan McNelis ( rest the both) and I was drivin hard in a Datsun Cherry when the gear box seized melted into an alloy…Michael Woods drove from Coolara and saved the night…we had a great gig but the Datsun never moved again….I cant remember when I wrote 1945 but I’d say it was in the 80s….
Same here Lar, just back in the Hills after the great few days in Lisdoon. Thanks to everyone for making it all so special.
We spent a night in Salthill on our way back ,where we heard a trio of great young musicians play in O Connors.,,,,,,.great songs including Bright Blue Rose….. then a quick spin home through “Sweet Mayo”……that’s easier for you to say you know !!!
Christy's reply
I first sang in O’Connors around 1962…..after a few ales I tried a rum and black and before I knew it I was up on stage with Christy O’Connor singing Rosin The Bow….dont think I’ve been there since but I did gig out the back in the 80s in CJ’s Nightclub where the mighty Iggy brodericks band often opened the gig…one night there lightning blew the power to Salthill and I sang for an hour with no PA in the light of Jim Donohoe’s torch….the power came back and ruined the atmosphere…
Have to agree with few that went before me here. Lisdoon is always a special place and time for music, for us followers. I enjoyed it so much, it was fantastic. Great to see the enjoyment on your face playing with these four lads..and they have the same look..its all good. Both amazing gigs, good to hear the Rose gettin an outtin, she dont get out much.. Thank for everything, and hope we see a lot more of that 5 piece in the near future..now for a feed..see you soon.

Wednesday, Royal Spa, front row, was it heaven was it hell. Whilst I am just an ordinary man, the voyage to Lisdoonvarna was perfect. I ride on back to oz on Tuesday after 5 months in heaven. I spent a week in Pukaun searching for Gortalocka, but had to be content with a drink in Paddy Kennedy’s pub, even though the snug was missing. As I watch the moon rise over Clew Bay Mayo I can only reflect on the journey I have experienced. Will miss Ireland but I am sure I will be back…. when my credit card is paid off. The Royal Spa was the highlight.

safe journey home Wayne….glad you made it to The Spa and thanks for sharing…greetings to all our Australian listeners
During our way down to the Kingdom today we relived the two Lisdoon gigs in our mind. Some songs are still resounding in our ears …
Yes, the second Lisdoon concert was different, but I couldn’t say why and which one I loved more … Both gigs were full of energy and of so many songs never or seldom heard live before. ‘St. Patrick Was A Gentleman’ and ‘I’m A Bogman’ were lovely, but my personal highlight was the sheer beauty of ‘Spancilhill’, followed by the ‘Reel In The Flickering Light’ and last night’s incredible version of ‘Hurt’.
If you continue your working relationship with Maírtin’s great band (fingers crossed!) there may even be room for some more extended solos of the musicians – they definitely have the skills.
Your next gig will be different again for sure. We are looking forward to see you together with Declan in Sneem next week – we know we are in for another treat.
Another highlight in Lisdoon was meeting some good 4711er friends. And being at the Royal Spa again (first time since the great gathering) was a bit like coming home …
Keep well and thanks a million for two great gigs to everyone involved.

Great to hear the positive vibes from Lisdoon – with that line-up it just had to be good. Hope to catch you with the band somewhere down the road. Looking forward to the Derry gigs in November too. Been a great year of music from the very start in the Ardilaun to whatever the last gig i’ll attend (currently hopefully will be Shaun Davey’s Relief of Derry Symphony in December), with all sorts of variety. It’s a wonderful road to travel and thanks to you and all the artists who have left memorable milestones on that road. Good health to you and Declan for many more memorable nights along the way.
Christy's reply
good to hear from you John…there was a grand gaggle in Lisdoon..did not meet anyone except Lar..I was rehearsing between the gigs but once the music started I could sense the 4711ers in the room….glad to read that you have had your ears filled with music this year..see you adup
Hello there, I am hearing great things about lisdoonvarna I hope to catch you with the band before too long I really enjoyed it the last time, the full sound of the music is just great, it is such a good collaboration (not forgetting declan’s magic!) It is good to hear the songs in different guises whether it be in full flow with flutes and fiddles or stripped back to just you and the guitar. I am trying to get back into my own playing again and to buy a new guitar I have let it slide for a long time now. Sure ya can’t bate it 🙂 the Rossie ducks were in danger of getting the pot there a few months back but have gotten a second wind and are in full production mode these days so there is hope for us all 🙂 x

You’ll have to get your running shoes on Liv, we’re running fast these days…glad to hear that laying has recommenced in Rossie and that your gonna get playing again
Does not feel like friday morning !! Feels like we have had one amazing weekend in Lisdoon ….such a pity it has to end …. The songs and Music last night was just outstanding from you at the start and then the lads coming on and kicking it off with Humours of Tulla ….what a piece if music!! Loved it from Start to finish ……And polished of with a nice little Seisiun witk Luka afterwards. Now while your convincing the Missus you have worked hard I must get up and work ……until next time
God bless

Knowing that Madeline was there last night I tried to get Amsterdam into the set, but I could not find the way in…when that happens I tend to follow my inbuilt satnav and go wherever I’m guided…there was absolutely no plan to kick-off with Humours of Tulla but it turned out to be the perfect opener, allowing the four lads to settle in nicely before we got down to the heavy sledgin..I hope you have a queue out the door this morning…all hairy patrons needing to be shorn..I suppose 5 or 6 Number Ones would settle you down…thanks for the feedback
Hi Christy and Declan, just been reading about the Philip Chevron gig. I have heard you do some great covers of Pogues songs and wonder if you have ever covered/or considered covering that masterpiece of Philip’s – “Thousands are sailing”? Best wishes. Libby
Christy's reply
Indeed I did consider The Chev’s Masterpiece many years ago…in the end I gave up for I could not do it justice…thats the way it is for singers …there are many great I would love to sing but , trying them on, I find they either do not fit or do not suit…..Thousands are Sailing, When a Man loves a Woman, I Fall to Pieces,Rainy Day in Soho, Hard Rain Gonna Fall,Nina Simone’s Pirate Jenny, Where all The Drunkards Roll,The Joy of Living….the list goes on….currently I have 8 songs on the go, If one of them makes it into the set list I will be satisfied….greetings to all Scotland Songsters
An amazing concert at the Royal Spa last night, Christy – we loved every moment. It was the first time we saw you on stage together with Maírtin, Cathal, Séamie and Jimmy. Our 4711er friends had raved about your previous gigs in this lineup, now we know why. My feeling was: Yesss – that’s how it should be … I had loved all these songs before, but the accompaniment with fiddle, banjo, guitar, accordion and percussion/bodhrán and particularly the instrumental solos made them shine and sparkle as if they were brandnew … These musicians are so gifted and sensitive that it seemed you had always been playing together … I was wondering if there will be an album together with Maírtin’s band one day … I know that your next project is the new box set with your own songs, but may thereafter? It would be great to preserve this gem for posterity … Looking forward to tonight !!!
