I’m not sure I should be asking you about this here, but I reckon you probably won’t mind as I don’t know how else to reach you. I have a couple of songs you might be interested in hearing. I have one of them (Better Man) up on BroadJam.com at the following link:
I don’t have the other song (The Child in Your Eyes) on BroadJam but I think it would even more suit your style. Here’s the first two verses, to give you the flavour of it:
The Child in Your Eyes
———————————
The child in your eyes makes me smile
And the warmth of your heart all the while
Now deep in my soul I can tell
That I’ve come to love and know you so well
For time like a river runs free
Its life passing rushing out to sea
So stay for ever here with me
And show me just how love was meant to be
Just to wish you a great first leg of the UK tour and say thanks for the chat, glorious read as always.
Europe without a gig was not the same but it was an interesting and happy time nonetheless. Won’t miss an other one, already planning… Adelante !
Regarding The Magdelene Laundries by the awesome Joni Mitchell, both her version and yours are beautiful and haunting. Yet I have to say I prefer your version of it. The melody and lyrics seem to be more distinct in your version. Powerful.
interesting to read that..two things though…”So Much Wine” was written by The Handsome Family and I am learning a song of Declan O’Rourke’s…..I’ve no idea when I might record again nor what it might include
Just read that tickets for Andy Irvine’s 70th birthday gig on 16th June 2012 go on sale tomorrow. Totally shocked to realise he’s that age – where have all the years gone? I wonder how many of today’s acts will still be gigging at that time of life. We have been lucky to have artists like yourself and Andy gigging for so long. Part of our culture and fabric of our life at this stage. It’s wonderful the contribution you have all made to the folk tradition, long may it continue.
Christy's reply
heard him play at The Liffey Folk session recently…he was in top form…..
The link i gave is a song about Dale Farm it doesn’t have any of the language in. (Kant or Gamoon) The song ‘crush the tober with the glaya beur’ hasn’t been put on youtube yet.
Here is a email address you can contact me on in regards to the songs or anything about Pavee’s (Travellers) glassanimals@hotmail.com
It’s great to be back amongst friends again, I haven’t commented on anything since maybe last October. My errant nephew has taken up a bit of my time all right but pleased to say he’s back on the straight and narrow again. The ould road is more crooked and wide than I’d like but the general direction its heading is good for sure.
It’s evocative stuff reading your comments Christy, I have great affection for Dublin, myself and John have spent many brilliant trips there soaking up the craic and the hospitality like eager sponges. Don’t think we’ve ever been to any of the places you mention as previously decent gig venues but we’ve certainly tried to drink our weight in Guinness in places like The Ha’penny Bridge Inn, The Stag’s Head and The Brazen Head. Venturing out to Black Rock usually finds us in The Wishing Well and we inevitably end up in The Old Punchbowl in Booterstown where John’s dad came from. We’re hoping to head over again this year after a three or four year hiatus so get the kettle on and we’ll pop over for treacle scones and a mug o tea.
Anyway, we have tickets for your gig in The Concert Hall in Glasgow as usual and I can’t wait for it mate. We’re only four rows back in the stalls and both have the shaved heads so apologies in advance if any lights bounce off of our domes causing temporary blindness. Fear not that someone has smuggled a pawn shop sign in to the venue or that the Mitchell Brothers have turned up looking for trouble. Tis only John and myself out for a cultural evening’s entertainment courtesy of yourself and Declan.
Can’t remember if I said last year but I met a lady who had been incarcerated in The Magdalene Laundries when I was down in Hastings visiting my old uncle at the end of August. She was staying in my hotel and I got to chatting to her late on at the bar after I’d come back from a Jimmy Carr gig in The White Rock theatre (lovely venue if yourself and Declan ever fancy playing right down on the south coast). A more harrowing but ultimately uplifting two hours I’ve yet to spend in anyone’s company. There was a strength in her determination not to be beaten that I’ve seldom seen in any human being. Puts everything into perspective, it really does.
Ride on amigo, see you in Glasgow in the autumn.
PS – I still think you should record “Fat Old Sun”, the David Gilmour song he wrote when still a Pink Floyder in the early seventies. It has your style all over it and space for Declan to play up a storm on lead guitar.
Christy's reply
welcome back….hope the lad continues to get well…see you on The Clyde
Hi Christie, is the song you mention by Johnny Conners (sham buffers) I found your song Johnny Conners and really enjoyed it, you sum up what many of us feel but cant or put into words.
Christy's reply
Philip King filmed the “Johnny Conners” song as part of a documentary back in 1996. He also used a selection of photographs from Derek Spiers and it was shot by Declan Quinn. The film was called “Christy”. It was transmitted on RTE and a few other channels around the world. There are some copies floating about.

Great to hear a song or two that ya havent caught live before.
Christy's reply
it will be Ryston, bring a cushion for your seat, we sat in St Conleth’s long enough with sore arses…..
howya. Theres a 10 song album in the works at the moment or should be but the chap who recorded the album has gone awol and was last heard trying to sell the songs on shopstall. Im just now looking to reproduce and get it out asap. I did most of the album at Dale Farm but i can assure you this wasn’t why they were evicted. There is a first draft song on youtube, it was a voice demo for the bodum player to put his magic to it but the runaway chap put it up without it even being stated never mind finished. I hope christy dont mind us talking like this on his blog. Send me an email address and we can discuss further. I know some of the Pavee in Manchester.
