Just seen a great recording of a band called The Men They Couldn’t Hang at T and C in London in 91′ doing a 7 minute version of the green fields of france. Thinking back, I think i was a 15 year old boy at that very gig. The stage is chaos, but the lads keep playing. Do you remember this band christy?
Hi Christy.Donegal Danny here.Been a fan since Planxty.Just going to ask you to lend your support to the people of the small fishing village of Greencastle.I know your reputation for the defence of the small man and woman. An Post trying to close the village post office, run by the same family the Gormleys since 1919.Their son was lost on the Carrakatine in 1995 and the place never closed a day. They have started a campaing to try and keep the place open , and I know a word of support from yourself would mean a lot to a lot of people who feel they have been forgotten. They have a facebook page Greencastle Post office campaing if anyone would like to support it. Keep up the good work, and thanks for the music,
Christy's reply
Our elected representatives in Government seem intent upon closing the country down, bit by bit, day by day….140 a day emigrating, no wonder the unemployment figures are decreasing…hospital wards, care centres, garda barracks and enlarged children’s classes as they burden the weakest with debts accrued by the greediest….all I can offer are words of support, not much good in these times, but I am happy to support those of you who are opposed to the closure of Greencastle Post Office. Shame upon those who decide, and are permitted, to remove essential services allover the Island
Can’t wait for the new single Christy, a cracking song. I could tell ya some mad stories about Diageo from when I did a few jobs with them. Will there by any actual singles released, or will it be download only? Also really looking forward to the album!! Myself and the wife had a great laugh brainstorming possible titles for it there. Luckily I can’t remember any now. Where I come from. Deep down…
Hope all is well with you,
Ger

I am hearing strange stories about Diageo myself….perhaps a forum where all these stories could be gathered would be a worthy project..far as I know there are no plans for an actual single. are singles still released ? your on the money with the title..
Hi Christy, hope all is well with you & yours. Just started following /stalking you as well on Twitter… Have to say though I still prefer the ‘ould facebook meself, there’s a great campaign going on there at the moment “Boycott Arthur’s Day” It has has almost 3,000 Likes and some great stuff up on it, including your contribution “Arthur’s Day”….I would be quite vociferous as well when it comes to this type of blatant manipulation by Diageo and the like. People on the front line are left to pick up the pieces after the so called fun & frolics of this marketing masterpiece. I read the article about the proposed “Drunk Tanks” that Anuk talks about in the UK …Might not be a bad idea methinks. Anyways all else good up here in the Hills, The football came apart a little bit for us this year (kinda of expected it, although not so bad) Should be an interesting final though on Sunday, my prediction is for a Dublin win, with four or five points to spare…. Liverpool going well though, top of the pile for now at least…looking forward to getting over to the Irish Festival there next month…Luka on Friday night, Christy & Dec on Saturday night (Happy Days)…Anuk has promised to treat me to a Ruby Murray as well… hope we don’t end up in one of them Drunk Tanks LOL ! …Great to see Derry coming up shortly as well…Looking forward to meeting up with the gang again. Good luck with the new release as well..Love & Respect Martin Mac
Christy! Was there ever a flurry of excitement to know you had were au fait with the oul Twitter! Soon you will be instagramming pictures of your dinner! (And sure we DO want to know what you eat for dinner..why wouldn’t we 🙂 Interesting for me your single for Arthur’s Day coinciding with the Old Bill over here wanting to instigate private drunk tanks. Whilst allowing the great unwashed drinks industry to sell kids shots of the hard stuff for a quid. There’s front loading, back loading, over loading, over dosing. The earth turns. I think it may be time for a hairy sweater. I hope you and yours are well. xx
Morning Christy. It’s morning time here and I know we’re a good few hours ahead so you must be up late (or early) back home. Changchun is in China. It’s in the north-east not too far from the russian border. We’re in the eye of the rooster they say (china on a map is shaped like a rooster) That’s great your getting a big repsonse, you keep delivering year on year. Fair play to you too for this site, it’s a wonderful component of the Christy package. I’m sure you know your songs and chat are reaching out far and wide.
Hi Christy. Greetings from one of the four corners of the world. Saw you live five times in the past but it’s been a couple of years since my last one. I wish you the best of the luck for the new album, fair play for giving an opinion on arthur’s day. As you grow a bit older you realise as long as there is money to be made, certain people don’t care what the consequences are to get their hands on more dosh. At least we have the likes of yourself to put a bit of perspective on it. Keep the show on the road..
Christy's reply
Morra John, where is Changchun ?….great sounding name, reminds me a bit of Woolongong above in Australia. The “Arthur’s Day” song has benn percolating these past few years. Wally Page and I have been tooing and frooing with it. There seems to be quite a response to it even before its released. Some lad wrote on Twatter yesterday ” whatever your not having yourself ” Thanks for the thumb up from Changung, are you out foreign ?
Dear Christy
It seems ages ago that we’ve met in Wexford last june. I hope Hillary has send you The photos we have taken then. They are hanging on our livingroomwall as a very nice souvenir . Now autumn is falling and all I can do is listen to your music and waiting for spring to see you again.
I have bought your biography in a bookstore in Dublin and I’am reading it at The moment. I’ts wonderfull to now where your songs are coming from and The long way you have travelled to become who you are now!
It’s only a paperback but it gives me great joy. In Skibbereen I have saw a hardcoverversion in a secondhandstore that was signed by you, but I didn’t want to buy a book that was meant to be for somebody else.
Anyway a paperback is easier to read in bed !
Because I’m always telling I’m your biggest fan in Belgium my Son asked me to remind you to see The film Missery ! He’s an upcomming standing comedian and I’m a real nurse.
Maybe I’ll go to Luka in oktober,he is in Belgium then.
So beware if there is snow falling untill then…..Many greetings Chris

Nearly full, the moon. Harvest time. End of summer, a chilly bite at day’s close. Birds everywhere along the dykes, in the woods and marshes, flying off over the river. The crows warning the herons about the eagles. Walking the eight kilometer jetty at Iona, out into the strait, leaving the land behind. Our worries leaving us the farther out we go, as if the land itself causes them. Out there on that long strip of walkway, it’s all sea and sky and fierce winds. By the second shelter we’ve left the other walkers behind and it’s us alone, Miss Persia and myself, alone with the birds and the blowing of the wind. It’s cleansing, like taking a shower without the water, hair flying about, eyes tearing up. Far on the horizon, a few boats en route to port. A sense of wonder. The goodness of having a dear one’s hand to hold. Deciding to head back toward shore as darkness begins. It’s longer going back than it is going out, but the legs hold up and the laughter helps. Saw a heron with a broken leg but couldn’t reach her. Called the animal rescue line and gave them the details. Came into the flat and put the water on for tea. Listened to you on the stereo doing Wally’s song, ‘This is the day the fisherman likes… and so do I, so do I.” Been reading Seamus Heaney’s poems again. Kissing this grand Persian woman as often as she’ll allow. A few candles. The sound of tugs on the river as the fog comes in. And now you’re singing Jimmy’s song, “I was born beneath the star that promised all… I could have lived my life between Cork, Cobh and Youghal…” Love ya, Christy. DL
