Christy's reply
gonna have to take pot luck Elaine..seems like the whole audience is seeking a call out tomorrow…have to see what way the wind is blowing…my main priority is the gig..the audience as a collective…myself and Declan work the gig spontaneously, some nights we get stuck in and the night flies by, we never know whats gonna happen next…some nights I can do a few callouts, sing a few requests but only if it suits the flow of the night…
Thanks for the response Christy. As you say perhaps I should hold out for some kind person to have pity on a poor soul searching for his own holy grail. Aw well only a week and a bit till the philharmonic gig. Feach leat go luath
Christy's reply
thats sound better Spur…I hate to see people paying out big money for something that has been talked up..the original cassette is a rare item but that CD is not

Hello dear Christy,
Very good to read here you are thinking about another visit to Germany … Got aware these days that it’s just two years ago since your great gigs in a few German cities.
Enjoyed watching the video of your hometown song you performed at a Newbridge school. Hope we’ll get to hear beautiful “Where I come from” when we are seeing you next in a bit more than a month.
Best of luck for your Portlaoise gig!
Greetings from autumnal Germany, Traudel
Christy's reply
the Summer has been good but Winter is now on the way…time put away the cotton and shake down the wool….see you along the way..safe travelling
my wife and I are so looking forward to the Liverpool gig in just over a weeks time having thoroughly enjoyed the last time that you and Declan performed there .
Is there any choice that you could play “The Voyage ” and dedicate the song to my wife Sonia as this is our Wedding Anniversary present to each other and the song is so dear to our hearts . I fully understand that you must get so many of these type of requests but I am working on the theory of ” if you don’t ask you don’t get ” and I know just how much it would mean to my wife to hear this song performed live having listened to it so many times at home and in the car on our travels .
Thanks again and cant. wait to see you perform again .
regards
Peter Griffin
Christy's reply
Lets see what happens Peter..I’m swamped with callout requests for The Phil. gotta play it by ear

Christy – just received the link below that you will be appearing the US in May but much to my dismay I looked on this site to see that you in Belfast on the same 2 nights. Can’t wait to hear th enew album.
Have come across an original spirit of freedom cd on eBay for £100. I think my darling wife should but it to me for Christmas (well a little earlier than then sure). What do you reckon sir. Should she. If you reply in the affirmative I can show her and tell her to dip in to her deep purse and sort it. In the meantime have got a blag copy (need the original sir as that completes the set) and particularly like the lid of me grannies bin. Brings back many fond memories of rattling them there bin lids to warn of impending invasion!!!!!
Christy's reply
in fairness to your beloved I cannot exhort such extravagence….but let me temper your determination with the history of this release…this album was originally released independently on cassette as a fund raiser to provide transport for families to and from Long Kesh. 1500 Cassettes were produced and sold. A year later WEA records sequestered the tapes claiming ownership under the terms of my recording contract. They were within their rights. I took a chance and lost the gamble. They then released it on Vinyl ( having altered the sleeve design) What is being offered on ebay is certainly not the “original”. I think if you hang in you will get it a lot cheaper but I cannot guarantee that. Id say stick with the blag for now and leave your wife’s purse to her own devices. You’d never know who might read this and come to your assistance…” scream bang shout, rattle up a din, let The Army know me girls The Brits are comin in “
Christy, My wife and I made it to your show in Limerick and it was fantstic. We had a great 2 weeks traveling all over Ireland, but seeing your show on our 27th anniversary was just the best. Great show, thanks to you and Declan!
Christy's reply
greetings to all Song Birds in Washington State…thanks for the feedback
Hi Christy, back home after my 5th visit since 2010. Went down to Bray while I was in Dublin and saw Skin In The Game. Excellent documentary and very well received by the audience.
Great to see a different perspective of the economic situation from the usual sound bites from your politicians and media.
Back again in June for a stay on Inisheer.
Hope our paths may cross somewhere, Slainte Gary.
Christy, I thought Bremen was good, You were right, Berlin??! Fair to say I got excited, I did… Maybe even carried away… Catch ye soon big man, Dylan http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pG8i6Gbo11c
Christy's reply
I have had strange experiences in Bremen….in 1976 my Bodhran went on fire in Club Stubo…another time with Planxty my Bodhran blew up…in 42 years of playing the old drum this has happened twice, both times in Bremen….also stayed with a club owner there who fed myself and Jimmy Faulkner on bread and schmaltz for a week, I was happy to hear that his rotten little club was closed down soon after….that said I love playing in Germany..such great and generous listeners….must be time for another wisit

Christy's reply
Good luck to The Shmig…hope you are lighting up every room and spreading the good JUJU around Wakefield and Leeds. Dont be dragging yourself, its bad for your eyesight and you only a young sprightly 46 year old lad
Hi Christy, not sure if this is the right place to ask but nothing ventured nothing gained! My husband and my best friend, Michael Surtees, sadly died in February this year from MND (motor neurone disease). He has been a fan of yours for ages and our shared enjoyment of your music was one of the things that brought us together. We sang “The Voyage” at our wedding and it was played at his funeral. Your song “Danny Boy” from the red album in the Box Set has been a bit of an anthem and support for me this year as I have scattered his ashes. I shall be at the performance in Liverpool on 12th October, where we came together for many years, and it would be so wonderfully fitting if you were able to dedicate a song to him. I know you must have so many requests and I can but ask but I know he will be proud that I have done so!
Thank you for your music. x
Christy's reply
Thanks for sharing Bid…its going be an emotional journey for you, I hope you find peace of mind…nice to read that the old box set is still getting a play…
Christy thank you for a great night in Limerick last Friday. Thank you for Honda Fifty for my two young boys they loved it (met hilary afterwards she is great …fair play) as we were going home Shane (who is 6 ) asked if I could teach him the words of the Amsterdam weekend. Ah well those are the joys. To paraphrase Jon Spillane …..magic nights in the UL
Thanks again
Denis
Christy's reply
you could teach him “The Crack was 90” for now…even tho I could not see the two lads I was aware of their presence in the room…best wishes Oz, to you and yours
