Long time since I posted on here, probably going back to when I saw Christy in York around 08/09? That night he dedicated Viva La Quinta… to my late Grandad. So a bit of a stranger coming back but as they say ‘got my shit together’ after the turmoil of a divorce and all that stuff. Tis good to be back 🙂
Just wanted to express my sadness at the recent loss of the great Phil Chevron. RIP Mr C
Christy's reply
Norwich and Hull were 2 of my favourite cities….back in history mind you, that time I loved is long since gone..
Hi Christy. Hope all is well. Sad news about Phil during the week, may God be good to him. Always thought Lorelei was such an under rated song, absolutely love it. Just warming up here for the trip down to Newcastle on Sunday. It’ll be my first gig since Barrowlands. Dragging the other half along on Sunday, she’s a Geordie exiled in Fife for 8 or 9 years now. It’ll be her first gig, she had to pull out of Barrowlands last year, she decided a sweaty dance hall in Glasgows East End was no place for a woman 8 and a half months pregnant! Hoping to hear God Woman or Bogman, a little taste of home for me. Have a safe trip and all the best for the tour
Christy's reply
I’ve never before heard of a Geordie having to be “dragged back” to Newcastle. Perhaps the good woman has an aversion to your taste in music..I hope that ye both have a good night ..we’ll definitely give The Bog Man a whirl..God Woman is currently is cold storage..she needs a new set of points and plugs and, god love her, her tappets are worn down. I’ll have me head under the bonnet as soon as I get back to he short grass.
Last one : ) a little more contained than the last with being on church grounds ; ) Cut It Down (lyrics)
If all a man needs
Are blue rosary beads
To feel safe
Behind the wheel
I nearly could believe
Some are dealt
A secret deal
Getting close to blind faith
When even a lifetime’s wait
Might not find out if it’s real…
If the future asks for too much
As it’s moving on
I hope it’s the present where I can belong
Cause the past, it tries to teach
The past it tries to teach
That good things don’t last long
And it’s made itself clear
Whispered fear into my ear
But it’s time I proved it wrong
I looked within
It got dark
Built an outlook
It fell apart
Where I stand now
Is where I will restart
I’ll find what’s for me
I’ll dig it out of the sand
Know my story
Know my plan
No reassuring me
I know where I stand
The past has made itself clear
Whispered fear into my ear
And it’s time I proved it wrong
Great start to the Liverpool Irish festival last night with Donal, Padraig and Sylvain at the Epstein Theatre. Really looking forward to your visit on Saturday night.
It will really cap off a few good weeks for us if you can squeeze in My Lovely Rose of Clare to commemorate the return of Liam McCarthy to the banner county after many years.
Gang of us heading to Bernard of Southport’s 50th this weekend. Highlight is your gig on Saturday in Liverpool. Ages range from 14 to Eddie aged 83! A wee plug for Bernard would be great but I know you’re swamped.
Enjoy the night. Can’t wait and we won’t forget our shovels!

Just sailing out of Dublin Port now…getting ready for The Phil….hope Bernard’s 50th goes well..
Hiya Christy, Hope all is good with you… Just getting the ould gear together ready for the off in the morning…God Bless Monsignor Horan and Michael O Leary I say, just hope I don’t take a wrong turn at Charlestown….. Looking forward to two great gigs – Luka on Friday then Christy & Dec on Saturday, all happening in the wonderful city that is Liverpool. Haven’t had a gig now for a wee while so I’m in a state of withdrawal I think. Great to see the RedMen flying high at the minute as well Christy, they might just give the title a tilt this year. Looking forward to meeting up with the gang as well this weekend. Would love a blast of Morecombe Bay (if possible) when you get into jute box mode at the Philly…makes the hair stand on end it does. YNWA ! Love & Respect Martin Mac

Happy travelling Hilary..Bob pipped at the post, next year perhaps…what did you think of “Skin in The Game”?..I enjoyed seeing it again..a shame that RTE have not shown it yet
Hey Christy, My wife Laura and I are going to Coventry to see you on 15 Oct. We planned our vacation around getting to a Christy and Declan show. Hope to hear you sing Viva La Quinta Brigada and many others but regardless, we look forward to every song in the show. Best.
Dean
Christy's reply
after being a constant in the set this past 20 years “Quinte”had been slipping off the list of late..I’ll certainly try to include it in Coventry..be warned, although this gig is described as Coventry, it lies upon the campus of Warwick University which is 12 miles outside Coventry. It can be difficult to locate if not properly reccied in advance
Disaster had to give up my tickets for your Leeds show. Saved tho got some for Sunday night in Newcastle. Bringing my wife for the first time she loves Chicago and the classics like Beeswing. Sacco and Vanzetti still my fave. Grandparents were Italian and great grandpa sailed to New York so it hits a chord. Last saw you in York last year so can’t wait. You and Dec have a great night.
Hi Christy, can’t wait for the boxset. A nice stocking filler from the man in red. Best of luck with the Uk tour. I love love reading the guestbook every day and the responses that go with them. I hope it continues. The requests however are getting tedious – in my my opinion. Its like x factor with all the personal sob stories. I find it a nice addition at the gigs when you give a shout to someone whos crossed the Atlantic to be there. But, and maybe im just being insensitive, but theres prob 80 or more people at every gig that have danced to the voyage on their big day, or who have certain songs that remind them of special people in their lives etc. What I enjoy most is that I have no idea what you and dec will perform next and long may it last….
Hi there Christy it’s the Bansha balladeer . Long time since leaving a comment. Had problems logging in but keep updated .I know you are inundated with requests for the liverpool show but no harm in asking. I’m coming to the show with my Daughter Rosie who is 19 and loves the songs. One of her favourites is This is the day.Hope you and.Declan have a great night, I know we will. Regards Tony.
Christy, Re the ‘Call Outs’….It appalls me to think that anybody would be using them for the wrong reasons ( but then again there’s always one !!!), given the generosity which you have shown all of us throughout the years.
Can I suggest that you do what feels best for you ? And…. ”Listen to harmony of heartbeats in unison’.
Hi Christy just a word of thanks to you and your music,we laid our beautiful mother to rest last Thursday she had reached the grand old age of ninety she spent the last two months of her life in hospital on the second day of visiting I put the Spirit of Freedom cd on in the car and played it on every trip I made after and I have to say when the mood was lowI got great comfort from the songs, i sang John O Dreams for communion reflection at her mass it had been played as an instrumental at my fathers funeral 25 years ago so I wanted to keep the connection and from now on each time I sing it I can remember them both anyway thanks for your music that keeps my spirit high have a good tour and face the puck out
Please consider sending this call for donations below to all with a social conscience in Ireland, to help bury Herman Wallace, RIP, of the Angola 3 in New Orleans this Saturday.
Herman, a Black panther who fought to end sexual slavery in the prison, and educated men in literacy in jail, spent 41 years, framed, in solitary confinement, in Angola prison, Louisiana.
His conviction (for the murder of a white prison guard) was finally overturned last Tuesday. He was released on Tuesday and died in New Orleans, from cancer, on Thursday, two days later.
We have only gathered locally about one third of what is needed for the funeral. We have no money in New Orleans. Donate at: Angola3.org
Thank you, Slan,
Catherine

Dear Christy,
We have just given birth to a beautiful baby girl on the 19th September, named Anna. My husband is attending your concert on Sunday and it would make his day if you could play ‘Beeswing’ for him, from us. The concert will be his unofficial head wetting, he is there with my dad (Grumpa) and good friends. She is 3weeks old so I won’t be there to see the concert but if you do mention him, he has been a super dad so far, looking after us amazingly and he deserves a cracking night out and a few pints to celebrate and he has been looking forward to your concert for months. His name is Stephen Cooper and he will be sitting to your right in the first row of the upper circle. I hope you thoroughly enjoy your night in Newcastle, many thanks in advance.
Sad to hear today of the passing of Phil Chevron, RIP.
‘Faithful Departed’ one great song, great strong telling lyrics right through that song.
Another great songwriter gone.
