Just read on Seamie O’Dowd’s Facebook that Dick Gaughan was over especially for a special show Seamie had in Sligo – and did the Letterkenny gig on the way home. The song he introduced as The Last Word is actually A Different Kind of Love Song – written after a bad audience in Surrey where a woman berated him at the end of the show for not “entertaining” the audience. First verse is the rant she gave him, and the rest the answer he’d have given if she’d let him. A lot of that song, in my opinion, would apply to the “political” or “educational” songs you sing too. http://youtu.be/WPaA6F8vu1Y
Christy's reply
its such a fine song..had a stab at it in 1986..ended up on the box set..must get it out again…I love Dick Gaughan work…hes an auld reliable
Hi Christy, I had the pleasure of seeing you in Liverpool and then across the mountains (I’m from Kansas , those were mountains to me) with Hilary, Adam and Deirdre for the Newcastle gig. The beautiful Hilary requested ‘Magic Nights’ for me and I just want to thank you for playing it. That song is very special to me (especially this time of year, 8 years on 24 October since Mom died) and hearing it at the end of my UK Luka / Christy tour just made the whole trip even more memorable. Thank you again.-Sheryl
Christy's reply
thanks for making the journey Sheryl, glad it went well for you..you had some good companytoo
Hi Christy
We saw you and Declan in Wexford in June. The concert was brilliant, touching and energising. Declan’s mam was in the audience and you mentioned my husband, it was his 50th birthday. We still have very fond memories of that night. Thank you so much.
hi Christy
tommy buckley from newbridge here
any chance of coming to the anvil in Basingstoke soon?
well done moorfield!
up the sash!
Christy's reply
Morra Tommy…thanks for your note..I missed the county final but heard it was pure classic….I was in England at the time and got constant texts from a Clongorey man as I crossed the Pennines between Liverpool and Newcastle.I was half hoping it might be a draw so as I could see the replay but I’m happy to settle for a win !!! I do hope to return to The Anvil at some stage for I enjoyed the previous visit. You being a Sash man I think I know your family from way back. Pat was a star Sash man as was Mick and, of course, Nuxer was the pride of the town qwhen he was in his prime
I am still home with the cough but I am getting better.
On Friday M谩irt铆n Johnny (dad贸s best friend)came to visit Dad贸.
He looks inside the room that dad贸 was in.
He said :” F谩gfaidh m茅 John ina codladh,”
Mom wakes Dad贸.M谩irtin johnny comes into the room.Dad贸 was asking him who he was.Mairtin johnny is deaf so he did not know what dad贸 was saying.THEN The phone rang and mom came in and Mairtin johnny and dad贸 were making a complete unnecessary rackett!!
Mairtin Johnny leaves because he does not know what dad贸 was saying to him. When he left dad贸 said : “who the heck was he”?
Dad贸 is in the hospital since saturday night he couldn’t hack the cough.I got up Sunday morning and went to put on the radio mass for him and he wasn’t in his bed.
I said to myself “what the heck”.Then I saw his walking stick and rosary beads was missing, so I looked in the living room and the kitchen and then into mom and dad.
I told them you guys better get up high speed cause dad贸 has taken off!
Mom said he went in at night in the ambulance and I slept through the whole thing.!
That made more sense.
In the hospital across the hall from dad贸 is Mairt铆n colm铆n he is dados old rowing mate.Ma铆rt铆n came to visit dad贸 yesterday.Dad贸 thought he was on inish Bearachain when saw M谩irt铆n .
The oireachtas is now 10 days away.
Do you keep a Diary of gigs and stuff how do you keep it?
CS ( 9 )
PS Hilary is Missing in action since English tour
Christy's reply
there has been upset in the home a mhaich铆n..I hope all is settling down now and that Dad贸 is getting back into good form…I have a diary where I write down everything I have to do in my work..what I need to rehearse, what new songs am I going to work on..I also have a rehearsal chart….here I have a list of songs that I have sung in the last few years..I try and rehearse them regularily ….some get rehearsed a lot, others never at all !!
He was in the Regional Cultural Centre in Letterkenny last night. Not sure if he’s still in Ireland – for some reason the Irish gigs never seem to appear on his website. I’ve a feeling he was in Belfast too, so possibly could be somewhere around.
Had the great pleasure of seeing Dick Gaughan last night – such a powerful and passionate performance and great intros explaining the background to the songs. What is it about your generation that seems to have produced such talented, powerful and principled artists? Reading great reviews from your recent tour too and great to see the brightness it brings to those lucky enough to be there. God knows we need it these days. Dick sang one called The Last Word, which summed up the reasons he sings the songs he does – so many songs from 25 or 30 years ago that seem to be becoming relevant again. History repeatingand lessons never learned. looking forward to the Derry gigs. Safe travelling.
Hi Christy & Dec,
I would really love you both to have a listen to Bob Dylan’s “Long And Wasted Years”
from the Tempest cd.. Great lyrics, great guitar.. Would love to hear what ye would do with it if interested… RyanL
Christy's reply
great song Ryan, great video too…who knows whats coming down the line..thank you
Great to see you in Leeds again Christy. I first heard Dalesman’s Litany sung by Dave Burland many years ago and I can just imagine Dave saying ‘ He’s a real bargain that Christy’. All the best Christy.
Christy's reply
Indeed I too hear Dave B sing The Litany. Had the pleasure of staying with him a few times over 40 years ago when I played Barnsley. Great hospitality from him and his famiy. I recall Concerts he ran in Barnsley Town Hall way back. Heard The Johnstons play at one of those gigs.
Newcastle was a magical night two great musicians playing as one, Merseyside was a high.First gig for my wife she loved the show especially Chicago. Think she’s ready to step it up Barrowland tickets in the post – see you next year take care.
Christy's reply
Step it up for sure..up the stairs to hell or to heaven we’ll go
“Are you there Patsy?”, you asked in Leeds the other night.
Oh she was, but too startled to answer. Another moment to cherish, after last year’s sublime choice of song. Thank you for spoiling her.
We’ll be going for the hat-trick when next you journey over the Pennines; anything less will leave her just a little disappointed. Parents these days – so demanding!
Christy's reply
we’ll have to play Donny or Mexboro..had some rear old times there….I think Tony Capstick was from those parts….
We – Emyr, Trish, Lowri and myself have managed to book tickets for Barrowlands and Glasgow Concert Hall. Trish i from East Kilbride and the rest of us from north Wales. Trish is bringing her dad to the Concert Hall. Do yo think we will survive Barrowlands? I’m really looking forward. Hwyl Gethin
Christy's reply
Nae bother Hwyl….the Barrowlands crowd will carry you all the way
What do you think of the Eirgrid plan to ride roughshod over the countryside? Here’s a link to their plans for a pylon corridor stretching from Cork to Waterford to Kildare:
Great concert last night in Leeds Christy Beautiful songs and sounds from two great musicians. As an exile Scot I particularly enjoyed your link to Joxer goes to Stuttgart
Christy's reply
someTown Hall in Leeds Jimmy…its grandeur certainly imposed itself..granite steps and ugly statues, pillars, gold leaf and murals BUT the audience, the songs and the music raised us all to a place where we forgot that lost empire….thank you all who came to hear us in Leeds,Warwick,Newcastle-on-Tyne and Liverpool, we could not have done it without you
Couldn’t agree more. Your get together in Leeds last night was special in how intimate and cosy it was. The sound was amazing from you both, thank you.
I remember seeing you first during the Planxty years…..you’re sounding better than ever!
Christy's reply
Thanks Daithi…it is wonderful to be still out and about doing gigs, I never imagined that I would be playing venues like these….when I first played Leeds in 1967, the next gig was all I dreamt of…..the last four nights in England were as good as it gets, in my experience…I dont think Decky and I have ever played better together
Saw you at the Town hall last night Christy….lovely set from you both.
some of the notes you hit in The first time I ever saw your face were quite sublime…. hope you both return again next year….
All the best.
Wadds.
Christy's reply
could’nt be better Wadds…made the Holyhead boat after the Leeds gig and got home in time for the porridge…hope we meet ye all again some day
A dear friend of mine has been involved in a very bad accident. He is a HUGE Christy Moore fan, I was wondering if it would be possible to get an autograph or something for him so he can hang it in his hospital room. Perhaps a little support from an idol would help the recovery process.
Thanks for the nice reply Christy…………until the next time son………..keep her on the straight and narrow with the pedal to the metal…………….she’s nifty and she’s shifty………..lol…..
