Hi Christy,
I’ve just made a short film, a story set on the bog railways of Ireland, and in it one of the characters is listening to about 12 seconds of Lisdoonvarna (the Ride On recording). I’ve been searching high and low for who to get clearance from for this! Saw it was WEA Ireland but can’t find any info about it otherwise. Sorry to bother you but would you please point me in the right direction?
Looking forward to Vicar St. at Xmas! All the best.

12 seconds…go for it…. any probs,tell ’em I gave you the nod
It’s great up here Christy….The box set is going everywhere with me. The previous box set lid fell off so I wonder what state of dereliction this set will end up as. The girls loved the different coloured cds. I’m going to Gallowgate via the Taj Mahal via the Brazen Head and back to Nirvana. Flippin bloody brilliant. xx
Hello Christy, the cd arrived yesterday (thanks to the back room people for super fast service). From the artwork to the content it is perfect, I’m so happy that you’ve put all this work into a collection. Watched the Late Late Show interview afterwards, too and really enjoyed it. Great to see you performing, seeing as we haven’t seen you here in an age :-). Thanks for sharing the music that keeps our spirits high. We love ya!
Christy's reply
greetings to you and family…I will jolt the memory of the backroom team, tell them to get their maps out
Hi Christy, just a note to say that I love the “Chat” emails. Not sure exactly what it is about them that I like bit hard to put my finger on it. It’s probably the conversational way that you write. It’s as if you are writing to each one of us individually.
It’s a wonderful gift that you have so please keep it up. It’s always great to hear where you are playing. All the different venues. Sometimes it even feels like we are there with you. The set lists, who you are playing with, the vibe of the gig and how it went.
When you mention something about a song I look out for that the next time I’m listening to it. Sometimes I have to go and play it there and then.
For me anyway it’s like a little window into Ireland. You know things are still going on there it hasn’t sunk into the Atlantic and the Banks haven’t taken every god forsaken penny and fled to Luxemburg never to be seen again.
Looking forward to the new CD it’s on its way ordered today. Keep up the emails and wishing you all the best for now.

Good man Owen…I do enjoy communicating with listeners…it has opened up over the past 10 years and grown into a small on-line community. Sometimes we meet up at gigs around the country and the listeners have created a sister site at 4711ers.org. That has shrunk quite a bit with the advent of facebook and twitter but ,nevertheless, still chugs along. I find these communications particularily helpful when I am on the road….greetings to all rapscallions down The Rocks and out to Bondai
Hi Christy, At your last concert at the INEC. Killarney you sang a great song about a fellow and a girl who met in a factory. the last time he saw her was on the street in Coventry with a dog. I. think it was called take me as I am.what album is it on?. thanks. Pat. ps. cant register with 4711ers. very complicated.
Christy's reply
Beeswing ( by Richard Thompson) is on the album “Burning Time”s and the DVD “Come All You Dreamers ” from Barrowland Glasgow…a classic song from a great writer
Hi Christy, ten years ago you played don’t forget your shovel for my two kids at the Glasgow concert hall. All these years later and they both love your music more than ever. Great sound on the new album-voice sounds brilliant. Can’t wait to see you in the Barrowlands next April.
Thanks for giving us so much joy over the years.
Christy,
What a wonderful piece of work ‘where I Come From’ is……..a real songsters Album. The sleeve notes give a fantastic insight into the background to the Songs.
Its also a look into our Country over the past 30 years or so..from Ann Lovett to the Stardust( i still remember where I was when the news broke) to Birmingham Six to Veronica. How our Ireland has changed since then…….or has it ??.
Best Regards
Christy's reply
one thing for certain Patsy, you and I have changed….the wing nuts have loosened, the paint has peeled, the plugs and points often need re-setting, the exhaust struggles betimes BUT we are still motoring…thanks for the feedback
Bonjour, Christy
About a year ago, I was among the happy few at the Lisdoonvarna gigs, with M.O’Connor band. Two great nights, still ringing in my ears. I like to sing myself and I had a wonderful teacher Iast July, in Tocane-St-Apre, the young Nell Ni Croinin. Since then, I’ve been trying to sing a few songs in Irish … not that easy ! There’s a young woman who lives here in my hometown, who can help me with the pronunciation. Her name is Aideen Munnelly, and she’s the daughter of Annette and the late Tom Munnelly, from Miltown Malbay. Aren’t I lucky ?
I’ll be in Cork in a few days and I’m so pleased about it. To see you again and listen to all the wonderful songs you’ll sing, and see Declan too … And share the evening with friends…. And maybe Aoengus will be there as well, who knows ? Féach leat go luath ! (I’m glad I don’t have to pronounce it!) Carole
Christy's reply
please send my best wishes to Aideen Munnelly….I met Annette recently at The Frank Harte..I am forever remembering Tom Munnelly…he saved so much of our heritage for future generations…he saved the work of John Reilly by recording him in Boyle in the early 1960’s. Tom devoted his live to collecting songs and was also a lovely man to meet in Maisie Friel’s for a drink and chat….safe journey to Cork….we’ll see if Yeats is knocking about…well done with your singing in Irish, you put many of us to shame
Congratulations on a very engaging interview with Pat Kenny this am,,, very warm and engaging conversation,,, without the usual exploration of your past habits,,!! at last an interview about the work,,here is the link I hope, scroll down about 14 minutes, H,
Christy's reply
it was a grand chat…I always remember Pat from the Coffee Kitchen Folk Club run by Betty McDermot ( and others) back in the mid to late 60s.He had that Clarke Kent look and a 12 string guitar. Heard many singers and players there. Danny Doyle, Al O’Donnell, Andy Irvine,The Ludlows,Luke Kelly then on to Smokie Joe’s studio club where the beatniks and pseudos hung out..remember hearing Louis Stewart there, Johnny Carlton too and, very early on before the arrival of the Bouzouki, Donal Lunny mesmerizing us all with Carolan’s Concerto on his Guild Guitar. WE often finished up in The Manhattan for the all-night breakfast
At the stroke of midnight I did download and have really reached a state of nirvana. Off the top of my head, welcome to Cabaret stands out. Just the voice. Lustrous, seductive, dark. ( bit like meself!! 🙂 and song for Guiseppe. Away my broken heart. Replenished energised. Am now hitting the motorway for the crust. Thank you to everyone for this. Xx
