Thank you Christy for yet again giving us 2 great gigs in the Millennium Forum – loads of highlights with the only low point being that they have passed. Still, other gigs to look forward to. Was great to reconnect with the travelling 4711ers and all the crew – we are blessed with those special friendships through your music. Was walking through the rain yesterday when I saw a street drinker taking his can into a phone box for the shelter – Allende immediately sprung to mind. Was great to hear it later for herself in Santiago. Keep well Christy, and thanks again.

We had a great visit North West….someone recalled my first gig in Derry and spoke of it last night..St Columbs Hall..I was playing with Planxty, also taking part were Seamus Heaney, Pumpkinhead and Seamus Deane. The year was 1973. I have the programme somewhere among my souveniers
well Christy, i never miss your gigs here. the past few years you have been in Odyssey, Waterfront, and the Forum in derry and ive been there everytime near the front. It was me shouted out Minds locked shut last night. Top gig. Hope ye enjoyed derry stroke derry …until next time….huppp!
Christy's reply
same as that Marty, would’nt miss them for the world ! thanks for the shout out..Derry stroke Derry gave us the freedom last night
Hi Christy I hope you Dec and the lads have had good fun on the road. My biggest girl recently had the honour of meeting Nobel physicist Prof. Higgs (yer man with his own boson and collider) and Stephen Hawking (yer man with the big bang) at the science museum. She hasn’t stopped going on about their greatness comparing her feelings for them to mine for you. Course I said “these men are looking for the God particle…Christy is God” . She didn’t smile. Young people these days! Haha! Xx
Christy's reply
myself and Dec rattle our boson colliders every chance we get.. sparks in Derry last night…an audience oozin with culture ( and 4711ers)…not a turner in sight yet the room was alight…. later on Abington was in darkness as we crossed the Foyle, veered right for New Buildings and Mick put his boot to the floor for Bertigrad ….me and Dec were like Higgs and Hawking in the back of the van, oblivious to the foggy night as we sat transfixed by Ginger Baker
Hi Christy, Thanks for a couple of great gigs in the Forum….just what the doctor ordered ! “The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face” “Shine On” and “Cry Like A Man” among the many highlights for me……Glad the “Honda 50” got a run out for Brian and enjoyed the shout for Hilary “Amsterdam” it was some craic with a full round of applause after every verse…”Zips and Fanny Ticklers”…LOL ! ..A very appreciative and generous crowd both nights, hard to beat the Derry Wan’s. Really enjoyed the company as well, 4 German, 4 Donegal, 2 Derry Men, a Dutchman, a Wicklow Man and a Kerry Rose all up top tonight and all captivated by the magic you weave. “Hurt” came as an unexpected but welcome encore, it always touches the nerve….. Catch up soon again I hope…Love & Respect Martin Mac
Christy's reply
ye were magnificent Martin…hope ye got the last few choc ices
Hi Christy,
The 3 CDs arrived today and I’ve been playing them not stop on full rotation. What a marvellous achievement to rerecord all those songs and some with variations, new settings and arrangements. Most artists would be happy to just gather them all together and reissue them. Not Christy! I think that shows what a great respect you have both for your music and for your audience.
The songs themselves are like a little history of Ireland over the past years. The fun & the laughter, the sadness, the bigotry, the human frailties and the love of the music.
They still pack a punch even after all this time. Some of the songs still resonate so much Veronica Guerin, The Two Conneeleys and On The Bridge. I guess in lots of ways you might say you are the conscience of Ireland because there is nothing that you will let slip past without you bringing it to our attention, whether we want to hear or not. And you suffered from that over the years, but it never stopped you and for that we must be thankful.
May whoever looks after you in the great universe give you the strength & health to keep on singing and playing for many, many more years to come.
We won’t be in Vicar Street this year (saw you there last Christmas). You never know if Ireland qualify for the Euros we could be France for the games and pop over to the old sod for a Christy gig or will you be at the games yourself? Joxer version 2 could resurrected? Kenno & MON could provide some great material for a new song.
All the best Christy and have a great Christmas and all the best for the New Year and the many more to come.

loved that Roy Bailey intro…a great warrior…I sang at his club in Nottingham 45 years ago
Hey there Christy,
I realize that you are a man short on time. However, I would like to at least take the time to say how much I love your music. So much so that as a budding writer I would like your permission to quote a part of one of your songs in my first up and coming book. The quote is as follows and it would appear at the beginning of one of the chapters as follows,
“Now the Earth is a Witch
And we still burn her
Stripping her down with mining
And the poison of our wars”
-Christy Moore, Burning Times
I tried to find a more private contact source with no success. If you have such a preferred source to utilize I would love to chat more on the subject via that email, etc. If of course you do not wish me to use your quote I of course totally understand. I simply wanted to ask.
Thank you for your time and all you do,
R.D. Reeves
Christy's reply
its all there in the next post Rich…I’d hazard a guess that its cool for you to quote but you should attribute it….. Burning Times by Charlie Murphy
Great first night last night Christy, the songs were in full flow. Looking forward to night 2 now. Hoping Allende gets a hearing. Another great night ahead.
Great anticipation for tonight’s gig, I hope last night’s went well and the vocal chords are well warmed up for tonight. First time out with Catherine since popping the big question so it will be a night of celebrating. Be great to hear your cover of A Pair of Brown Eyes, always makes her night when you play it.
See you up the front 🙂 Ride on…

Can’t wait for the show tonight and enjoy ur stay in Derry ya legend 🙂
I’m so embarrassed after reading my last comment, as in it I said I would be attending the concert tonight when really it was tomorrow night (sat). I must’ve got the dates wrong and there’s me busy requesting songs I would never hear lol. Apologies, but never worry about the request if you’ve your set list sorted as I’m mainly grateful for your reply and am really looking forward to seeing you tomorrow evening.
All the best,
Jimmy
Christy's reply
tonights set list will be sorted as the night unfolds..last night’s was sorted after we finished song 31…The Blue Rose was in last night…a Lady in the front row whispered it quietly at the perfect moment and up she flew…no need for apologies or blushes…we dont take exception to such slight oversight..the job is oxo jpj
Sorry Christy but due to circumstances I could not get back home in Derry to see you tonight nor tomorrow night. Got the new fantastic album from my wife for Christmas and it is put away. Unbeknownst to my good wife I have already heard it about 10 times on spotify. My solace is to seek your songs and listen continuously to every one. Great for a Saturday at work when I can listen for 8 or 9 hours whilst working. Hope Derry is good for you but no doubt it will. We are unique people in the maiden city indeed sir
Christy's reply
thon Spotify is a curse to recording artist’s but a blessing to listeners….I condemn it wholeheartedly but then change my cap and embrace its convenience with relish…last night in bed I heard Benjamin Britten, Nic Jones, Patsy Cline, Nina Simone ( but not Pirate Jenny) The Watersons and Mozart…on the other hand I gather that 100,000 plays of a song on Spotify would gain an artist twopence ha’penny….a death knell for the recording industry perhaps but not for music …we’ll keep boppin til we drop
Now leaving that banjo out would have been a tragedy!
I love how its so understated – really magical.
I moved on to disc 2 today, looking for more hidden treasures.
We’re going to Kilashee on the Friday night (though the little one doesn’t know yet, she’ll find out on the night or else she won’t sleep for days before it)
Looking forward to it myself – a couple of hours of wonderment – for the pair of us.
Safe travels in the meantime.
Colum
Christy's reply
wonderment for us too..the light go down, the listeners settle,we set up a lick and follow the thread..just comin down here after night1 in Derry
It’s beautiful, Christy. Start to finish beautiful, intimate, moving. As if you’re sitting there with Declan in the room with me, each song another glowing peat brick, keeping the winter at bay. This is a labour of love, one for the ages. What a gift you’ve shared. DL
Christy's reply

There you were, right in the middle of the front row..some of you 4711ers really get around..hope you got someone changin the reels back in Arklow
Christy, I know you get your fair share of requests so I thought I would ask you on here. You’ve always been nice enough to grant any request as in meeting you or playing a song. Me and Catherine got engaged recently and she thought I was going to do it at one of your concerts. Anyway, I would be sincerely grateful if you could play Shane McGowan’s – Pair of Brown Eyes for her. It’s her favourite cover of hers that you do…
Hi Christy, looking forward to seeing you in the forum tomorrow night. Will you play your version of beeswing? I asked you in City hall in Newcastle, you said “coming right up horse” but then it never happened. I also asked you at the Belfast waterfront and you said “shut up you gobshite!” Haha. Please make it 3rd time lucky
