Really looking forward to going to the london gig on wednesday night. If you happen to see this christy would you play Beeswing or any number for karen – we’ve just set date to get married in august after she accepted the offer of putting her cows in my field! She’s got the best heart I’ve ever known. p.s if anyone could suggest good place for few pints after gig that’s not to far away or a very good place that’s worth the trip I’d be happy to buy them a pint to say thanks!
Christy's reply
there has been a deluge of requests for call outs in London…so many that I have decided to dedicate every song to every member of the audience….if Karen connects with a song you can both be assured that it is being sung specially for you…..if you tip over to 4711ers.org you may get info on where some of our regulars listeners gather after gig…they are a good bunch…if you can track them down you’ll find yourself in good company…may Karen’s cows thrive in your paddock
Looking forward to the gig at RFH on Wed … hope you feel moved to play the bodhran …pleeaaase but no pressure!!!
Always a pleasure to hear you and Declan …
Christy's reply
I never know when the drum is going to come out…whatever stirs it remains a mystery..its a thing of air and inspiration…most nights it stands by my side, patient and quiet, not really wanting to be disturbed….then the odd night comes along and it jumps into my hand demanding to be rhythmed, presenting itself for a right good seeing to….its a beautiful drum, handcrafted in New Zealand by the very finest craftsman.I know of only two of its kind. The other is with Donal Lunny who gifted me this chersished instrument.
Hello Christy, I would just like to express how much my wife and I enjoyed your concert in Leeds yesterday evening. It was just brilliant and you were supported perfectly by Declan. Thank you ever so much for playing ‘Bright Blue Rose’ as requested. Karen wept when she heard it – you sang it beautifully. Your performance last night was top notch . . . long may it continue. Kind regards Christy and all the best for the rest of your tour. Martin and Karen.

Christy's reply
did not read this til the following morning in London…
So, where to begin,
Sure it was a Sunday, drinks to be had, sun to see, not a usual one though! Most sunny Sundays, ……… We had tickets to see Christ and the Sinner, @ Leeds Town Hall, so, Drive, Bus, Train, Taxi, Walk? – Taxi, £80 return to Bridlington, he quoted, Seventeen to the Queen’s superb! Trepidation! Big town, money down, Di looked over her shoulder at me, I knew at once, Would we be too pissed to enjoy the scene before us, surely it would be more Forum, Bridgewater, Civic, sheeeesh! The compadre’s, (or seen as) folk on the same run as we, looked like,…….. we knew it would be a ‘sit downer’! The City hall looked smashing, for Leeds, I wish I’d not taken the piss out of Di, for not going, and gone myself!
We still haven’t spoken about our favourite bit’s – Mine Are!
The Set, Impressively Impromptu (ish)
The sound quality was superb,
Shitting myself, in case this lot, (the punters) had nipped down from the big bath (edinburgh)
Declan gets better, by the yard!
Hope you two enjoyed that as much as me! Will ask Di when she’s finished her mandatory training! Slainte, Belly!
Christy's reply
a grand bit of writing Belly…impromptu “ish”…whats that all about?
Hi Christy, just to say a million thanks to yourself and Declan for the amazing concert in Leeds yesterday evening, it will rank as one of the best gigs I’ve seen by anyone, ever, and I’ve seen a few!
I came along to the gig with young Sam Hindley, who you so kindly left a couple of tickets on the door for, and we had a fantastic spot in the wheelchair section just to the left of the stage.
You made Sam’s night twice!…..once when you sang the request he’d yelled for ‘North & South’, and also when you signed his CD after the gig. He’s a big fan, and travelled over to Dublin with his parents recently to see you at Vicar Street.
Thanks once again Christy,
Phil
P.S. The guitars sounded really nice and sweet, and I noticed the Takamine’s were not on stage with you last night. Are they Gibson’s?……couldn’t quite make out the name on the headstock.
Christy's reply
the new Guitars are Matons ( but there was a Tak at hand, I still like the lower end of their 30 year old pick-ups )
So looking forward to tonight 🙂 My daughter saw Jessie J last night but saved the best for tonight! You don’t get to pick all the crew, just one of them!
Enjoy the Sun on your back 🙂
Christy's reply
a great gathering in a lovely venue at the end of a sun drenched day
Hi, Christy – I’m really looking forward to the gig tonight in Cardiff. The last time I saw you live was in Kilburn in (I think) 1978 when you were playing with Donal Lunny and Jimmy Faulkner. It was an evening I’ll never forget. I’m sure tonight will be just as great. Any chance of The Little Musgrave putting in an appearance? Probably too long for a live gig, I suppose. Anyway, good luck!
Christy's reply
we played Musgrave in Leeds and hoped to do it again last night but he never turned up.
Loved the concert last night in Leeds, particularly Bright Blue Rose and of course the a-cappella rendition of Weekend in Amsterdam – wonderful, thanks for a special evening.
Hello again Christy. Just back from tonight’s performance in Leeds, and felt obliged to thank you while the heart still pounds. You dedicated ‘The Voyage’ to my mum – Patsy Hurley (still exiled in Doncaster). She was on the front row of the balcony and your kind words triggered such a flurry of giddy excitement, and shock, she very nearly ended up thirty feet below. “Happy birthday Patsy” as the last note faded will live long in the memory. A perfect choice of song that moistened the eyes and did indeed warm the cockles. Thank you for a very special three minutes.
Just a quick note to say thanks for a lovely gig tonight. The voice was sounding great, and a nice surprise to hear the impromptu Dalesman’s Litany. Hope Leeds brought back good memories, and best of luck for the rest of the tour.
Christy's reply
our tour could not have kicked off better…thanks to all you listeners..ye gave air to our performance
Hi Christy,
Heading to Charleville to see you play on the Friday night with my wife Mel.
I won’t ask for any particular song but one from the drawer would be nice, pick it yourself.
Hope all goes well across the pond.
Good Luck for now,
Gus
Christy's reply
Morra Gus, we’ll root around in the drawer and pull out a few for the night that, hopefully, will be in it….here in The Big Smoke once more…the Thames is drifting by, its a great City, but a lonesome place for many
Really looking forward to the gig on Wednesday in London. You may remember me from the day trip to Anfield with the Kildare crew back in the mid 90s?!? Here’s hoping Brendan’s Voyage gets an airing on Wednesday 🙂
Christy's reply
was there a bird strike on the way over which caused the plane turn back ?…I have good and bad memories of that day….dont know about Brendan’s…it has been rested for a while, does not work too well in the current set but we never say never
Croeso nol i Gymru! A warm Welsh welcome back to Wales!
The family is looking forward to seeing you in Cardiff tomorrow. My son Evan is 17 on the 8th of this month, be great if you could wish him a Happy Birthday!
Hello Christy – hope you are enjoying sunny Leeds today. Can’t wait to see you and Declan tonight. Any chance of wishing my Tyrone friend Brian all the best with his wedding to Nichola on the 16th April, both big fans and coming with us tonight! The Voyage was our wedding song and now has even more meaning as we have a young song, who also enjoys your voice. His favourite sony that gets him moving has the lyrics “Johnny, get up from the fire, get up and give the man a sate Can’t you see it’s Mr McGuire and he’s courting your sister Kate Ah, you know very well he owns a farm a wee bit out of the town Arragh, get up out of that, you impudent brat, and let Mr McGuire sit down”
Best of luck for the trip to the UK. Enjoy your pasties in Leeds tonight, if David Cameron hasn’t them all ate !! Saw Kieran Goss in Derry last night – great gig and spoke well of touring with you. Played Nancy Spain on account of John O’Neill from Dungannon doing the sound last night. Enjoy your trip – and mind that goat when you get home – if it shows the teeth i reckon a new bodhrán might be called for.
Christy's reply
its macro organic on this trip, tryin to cut back on fuel….John O’Neill is a right blast from the past and Kieran.Goss too
