safe trip back to Celbridge, mention of Celbridge always revives memories of boyhood spent with my Grandparents out in Backweston. I saw “Rock around the clock” there in the late 50s in the old green galvanised cinema up near Castletown gate.Used to swim there too. Granny used to shop in Paddy Gleesons shop across the road from Sammons pub just before the bridge. Used to cycle from Weston for the papers.long straight road past Youngs Garage and Cotters shop.Often wondered what lay behind St Wolstans walls…all these memories from an old world long gone but always cherished…..see you on the 30th
aaaahh, All for the roses…with Mairtín and band…a dream, followed by the 16 Jolly ravers…heaven.
I was at a standin gig in Whelans the other night..good atmosphere, a mini Barras.
might suit.
No tart so, fruit all the way..a bit of walkin..a fresh one today out there.

Hi Christy, Im. very interested in old cars. friend of mine owns a husky.
our next vintage show here in Castlemaine is planned for last Sunday in August 2014. Ill. send you an invite you can bring the Honda 50.
Hey, Christy. I’ve really enjoyed your music for years and especially enjoyed attending your concert at the Auckland Town Hall in 1997.
I’d love to bring my kids to enjoy one of your live performances one day – they certainly enjoy your albums as much as I do.
Thanks for being such a great entertainer.
Hi Christy, been listening to After the Break a lot over the last few days. Its a powerful
recording from start to finish, great sound, songs and tunes.. As you were there, maybe you can help me out here. Donal Lunny is credited with playing guitar and blarge, now i have googled blarge and all i got was a solar powered building that doubles as a musical instrument???. So I started listening a bit more closely to see if I could hear some sounds that were not on the earlier Planxty albums and outside of Matt Molloy’s flute and whistle playing I started hearing a kind of acoustic bass. Easily
heard on Farmer Michael Hayes at 2.20, or Smeceno Horo at 0.35.. Any info on the blarge would be well appreciated. Thanks Christy ….RyanL
Christy's reply
Donal Lunny designed the Blarge in the mid 70s and commissioned an instrument maker to produce one.Basically it was a large Bouzouki which had a very distinctive sound. I dont recall hearing it being played after that album.Thats all the info i can offer. Subsequently Donal designed an electric bouzouki which he played in Moving Hearts and he also designed a number of percussive instruments
Hi christy,Love your music, got tickets for barraws cant wait, I see you play concert hall also is it a different set list you play there, am i lightly to hear you play songs like farmer micheal hayes and others that arent on the barraws setlist?
Christy's reply
always a different set but there are certain songs that appear most night..Michael Hayes has been in most sets this past year and would be a likely candidate in Barrowland..giz a reminder on the night
Hi Christy,
Heading to see you in Athlone this weekend and I can’t wait, I’ve been listening to you for years and your music brings back so many happy memories of me driving around the country with my da as a child happily singing away to Joxer goes to Stuttgart and black is the colour! Myself, my fiancé Bren, and friends Mitch and jenny will be in the crowd on Saturday and an auld shout out would be great!! Thanks again for the music and the memories!
Christy's reply
Hey KJ Malone, I’d have 2 songs sung while I’d be shouting all those names out, I know what you mean though..back in the 50s my Da had a green Hillman Husky ZW1723…he used to deliver groceries in it..he was always singing “I’ve got a lovely bunch of coconuts,// there they are standing in a row,// big ones small ones some as big as your head,// singin roll a bowl a bowl a penny a pitch” hope ye all have a great night
Hi Christy,
I would love to see you in Munich!
Any plans of playing on the continent next year?
Christy's reply
no plans, just day dreams….who knows ,maybe something will come together….these times I am very fortunate to have plenty gigging opportunities in my heart land…also, I stopped air travelling in the late 90s so it takes a lot of time to get to your beautiful country…last played Munich 20 years ago..but I never say never !! almost never !!
May not be suitable for younger listeners or those of a nervous disposition though 🙂
Christy's reply
when I look back at certain songs covered over the years I sometimes question their inclusion in my ongoing working repertoire…two recent inclusions come to mind…Amsterdam Weekend and Honda 50…both these songs jarr many listeners. I think I understand their discomfort, nevertheless I continue to sing them in concert….with “Weekend in Amsterdam” I enjoy the incorrectness of it all…this tale of unsophisticated travelling…I also enjoy the unbridled response it evokes at some concerts..never before have I performed a song that gains applause at the end of every verse…I also like the way it takes its form from “The Crack was 90 in The Isle of Man”, a song I recorded 35 years ago. This too met with disapproval and was sniffed upon in high-minded quarters.Paul McCormack has written a gem here. One that will sparkle for years to come
“The Honda 50” I consider to be a classic. Here Tom Tuohy captures a slice of life in three short verses. I sometimes sense disapproval when I include it but personal pleasure and the “bog cool” drive me on. I can feel my hair blowing in the wind as I rev up and ride hard for Dreamland. Billy Parkinson is clinging on the pillion as we cross the The Curragh Plains. It being a Good Friday (or a Christmas Day) and we’re heading for the NCO’s Mess in Plunkett Barracks where jangling nerves will soon be soothed by large bottles of black porter..nor had we need for any intercession from Mr Diageo…we were quite capable of fashioning our own fantasies….thanks for posting this SWALSH…..O She’s rapid and She’s Nifty, (and) She’ll do 150 on a windy day
.
Mornin, I was browsing a documentary site and found this a few nights ago..be warned, these sites can keep ye awake half the night watching stuff. This is the story around “Duffys Cut”. Thought a few readers might be interested.
Also, I think CS (aged 8) should have his own chat..i think he’s hilarious, his stories very natural, and when you’ve met them it makes them better, great fun in them. I still like your own chat too mind. There’s a fierce amount of gigs comin up, dont know how ye do it..will you be goin to many yourself..? I hope to get to see the Athlone gig this weekend with Mairtín and the band, these are very special nights, I love when they come around. The 2 nights in Lisdoon in August were very memorable. The Duke has a great turn of phrase and elegant words about he has the new collection on the go all the the time..I might get him to write my posts here in future, but just to say I also have it lashin out the car all the time, its so good, I know have said it before, but its worth sayin again..a class collection. The angry and sad songs again done in a beautiful way, softly, and still the message comes across loud and clear.
So, whats next ? box set me bolx part 3 ? One Voice part 2 ? Anyway, always a tart waiting..have a grand day..its a nice one out today.
Morra Lar….Duffy’s Cut is a Waldo classic. He has a way with the songs. I think of Biko, This is The day, All for the roses, Jolly Ravers…I love his gigs too altho have not seen one for 3 years..they are rare enough and I tend to be gigging myself….CS8 writes beautifully, I love to read his posts…I am in serious training for our trek but tart is totally off the menu, we will have to celebrate our achievements with slice of lemon or some such… shine on lar..git
Hi Christie,
Have booked tickets for the Waterfront for my partner Simon Loughran for May 29 2014.He has fond memories of getting a lift with you in your van to visit his dad Peter Loughran. He says you owe him a birthday cake???Only lately has he been able to listen to you and even now he cries like a baby(memories of his dad who died much too young)A shout out would be wonderful! We both love you to bits, keep her lit,

Many thanks for the shout out to Erica on Friday night – she sang her head off with Dr Sinnott.
The excitement got the better of her after that and a wee nap was required until the Honda roused her again.
Great night was had, roll on next year (back at the ropes I hope).
Wishing you and all your family and the crew the very best over the Christmas and New year.

Christy's reply
goodnight Erica..thanks for bringing your da to see me and Declan
I was at the gig in Killashee Saturday night as I am a long time fan of Christy and have been to see him many times. I thought the sound quality towards the back of the room was very poor. Could not hear clearly what Christy was saying and the ballads were hard to enjoy because of poor quality of sound. Half way through the show I spoke with the sound manager who told me I was the only person to complain. He was very dismissive and was not interested in doing anything about it. If one person complains they should be heard – not good customer relations!!!
Christy's reply
Thank you Anne for taking the trouble to write. We do want to know.I have ascertained that there was a technical problem on Saturday night. I had a feeling on stage that all was not well towards the back but I have to keep going. The problem was being dealt with during the gig as best could be. I was surprised to read that you spoke to the “sound manager”. I have checked with David.Whoever you spoke to it was not our sound engineer. We are looking into your complaint and to whom it was made. I regret that your experience was not a good one. We are neither “disinterested nor dismissive”.
Hi Christy I am liking the new site fair play,Just back from Cardiff and the battle we had with Australians,George north was a powerhouse once again, so close we are nearly there so frustrating, looks like I will be coming over to Ireland for the welsh game you can bring the tea and I will bring the Bara brith.
Christy's reply
What a brilliant game.I was glued to the box. I had it recorded and watched it after Saturdays gig. I know its no comfort to the Welsh players but it was a wonderful sporting spectacle. The atmosphere in Cardiff is always uplifting .Its a long time since I have witnessed such quality tackling. Last 2 Saturdays we’ve had great games both ending in narrow defeats but the quality augurs well for the Triple Crown and Six Nations. Will the European Cup survive in its present manifestation? Shine On Geraint
Unreal night in Kilashee on Friday Christy! A different class altogether. Any idea of how a fella could listen to the song about the weekend in Amsterdam online? Or who was the lad that you said wrote it? Great song.
Christy's reply
That song was written by Paul McCormack of Newbridge. My version is on either of my last 2 “Folktale”
Hello Chrisry,
I wrote a song called “Men of Aran” a while back, it`s on you tube, I would love if you could check it out, I do believe it would suit you, here`s the link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b2QbyGgqyxY I am sure you get many songs sent to you but never the less it`s worth a try, Padraig Grimes
Hi Christy. Many thanks for a great night in naas on Friday night. It was a great gig from start to end. I hope you make kilashee a regular gig venue now. Pure majic. Look after that Honda 50. All the best and thanks for a great gig. best regards.

I have just written a song based on the recession and have been advised by numerous fans of yours that it is perfect for you.
Can you let me know how I could get this to you if you wouldnt mind taking a look at it.
Thanks
