Well I don’t know about You, Declan or Jimmy, but Labhrás is bolxd after that unreal gig in the Vicar street tonight, Sunday 22nd…I knew from song 3 that we’d be in for a good’un…but I didnt think Id be sittin there 2 hours and 35 minutes later with a mildly reddened arse and 35 magnificent songs under our belts and ringing in our ears all the way home..I’ll be awake half the night thankfully thinking this gig through. highlights were many, but for me, included, “Dark End Of the Street” , “First Time I ever saw your face” , “Companeiro’s” the good banter, good humour that handled that sometimes noisier banter, but it is Christmas..feck it..Fairytale always perfectly placed..it was a humdinger of a gig..feck the begrudgers is right…will ye make it back in for tomorrow? An ice bath might do it, light streches in the morning…check the pier. So, I thank you for a magnificent nights entertainment, talent and skill…was dyin for the holy trinity meself by the end…Congratulations, I think in 30 years it was the longest show Ive ever been at…im sure their may longer on record..? Sleep well,,,L x

Hi Christy, I’m hear with my cousin Kenny over from Hamburg for the Christmas,we are just talking about all the memories of our dads Christy&Nelius and all good times in O’Connors & CJ’s. If you get a chance Christy, check out TG4 7.15 on Christmas Eve,they recorded a Christmas show from O’Connors with lovely traditional Christmas music with an Irish feel, all the best to you and your family for Christmas.Best of luck for you and Declan in 2014 ,Frank O’Connor.
Christy's reply
will do Frank..I send greetings to all the O’Connor Clan..have a good time and Hi to Kenny
Hi Christy,
The music sessions are now in Larry’s Lounge as Dowlings was closed for some time for various reasons. The nucleus of the original gang of Frank Burke, Gerry Mahoney and Pat Keogh play every Friday night along with whoever else shows up on the night and are going as well as ever- it’s a true saying about the older the fiddle…-. Frank and Pat also anchor the sessions on the first Tuesday every month and Ned’s daughter Geraldine is keeping the Farrell flag flying high playing tin whistle and fiddle, as well as the organ at Sunday Mass! Luka has been down to the Tuesday session so he can confirm how good it is etc. Good luck with the gig tonight and chat soon! Thanks again
Christy's reply
greetings to all the Prosperous Music makers…must try and get down some night in the New Year
Hi Christy,
Hope this finds you well and sorry I wont be in Vicar Street tonight. However a good friend of mine John Norton a former percussionist and bodhram player with Riverdance – now a professional musician working in the USA and his American wife Gina – are in the audience tonight. Gina’s, first time to hear you live, is a massive fan and your concert is the highlight of this trip. If you get a chance you might give them a very warm welcome to Vicar Street. Happy Christmas and every best wish for 2014
Christy's reply
did not read your post til the following morn, hope they had a good night
Hello dear Christy,
Hope the shortest day of the year went well for you. Good to be past the winter solstice and it is getting brighter now. Thanks for another great Chat, always a delight to read. I’m glad I could catch some of the matters you’re talking about, the awesome Derry gigs, your marvellous new album, the great interviews on TV and radio … Loved the set list of your first Xmas gig at Vicar St, lots of beautiful songs. But a mysterious birdie whispered to me you also sang enchanting Folk Tale again. Hopefully it will linger until we are meeting again.
Best of Luck with the Vicar St gigs!
A very HAPPY CHRISTMAS to you and yours, Traudel
Christy's reply
Folk Tale has arrived back into the set..we played it at rehearsal recently and found the way to play it…a few alterations and its fit for purpose..I feel the song has finally emerged as a finished piece….best wishes to you and yours
Sorrow is my favorite word for Chagrin, most of the time… but its not exclusive of others…
WICF finally reached the Bay just in time for Christmas, love its outfit, colours, design, booklet etc etc.
Its amazing how we all made it to another year again, singing, listening, caring about each others, reaching out when needed, always connected in friendship and love.
Its a good place to be, the 4711ers family. Merry Christmas to one and each and all the best for the coming year.
Blessings to you and yours Christy.
Christy's reply
it took its time getting there Maryline but glad to hear it has landed…I cherish this new found contact I now have with a community of listeners…I have always associated chagrin with mild irritation, sometimes verging upon the early stages of anger. Until now I’ve not been aware of sadness within my chagrin. I’ll need to take a closer look the next time I get a pain in me hole. So Happy Christmas, we love you baby, theres gonna be good times when all our dreams come through>
Hey C, The Commons ’57 line up is complete !!! I even checked with Rubber himself. The 3rd lad in on the left beside Rubber is Maurice (Moss) Ahern.
Happy Christmas

Christy's reply
Graham…you are first up with an answer to the question in the last CHAT.. despite the fact that the info came from “The Rubber” I have a lingering doubt that I need to dispel before settling for you answer. Can you check another source. I am out of the loop and don’t have access to any of my old team mates.Maybe “Quinner” could confirm
Hi Christy, just a few lines thanking you for the great gig on Sunday. I’ve been going to your gigs since 1982 through your time in Planxty, Moving Hearts, solo, then with Declan to Mairtin and his band earlier in the year but this was extra special as my wife and two daughters were with me. We were within touching distance of you in the front row and I don’t think I’ve ever seen you in better form! Orla wrote to you after the concert telling you how much she enjoyed it and you were great to send such a prompt and lovely reply. I was tempted to make ourselves known to you on the night but didn’t want to impose on you. My wife was a next door neighbour of the late Ned Farrell and sure we met Frank and the lads at the trad session on Tuesday night in Prosperous. It’s on the first Tuesday of the month now and a Christmas special this week! We had 23 muscians with a great mix of instruments and generations! The music lives on in Prosperous and we would love if you turned up sometime and joined in for old times sake. We live just up the road from Andy past the GAA on ‘the back road’. Happy Christmas to you and all the family, Best wishes for 2014 and likewise to Declan and Jimmy who were great too!
Kind regards,
Gerry Mullins and family
Christy's reply
Thanks Gerry…thanks for all the Prosperous news…I’ve noted the change of night..are the sessions still in Dowlings ( without Pat RIP)…just getting ready here to go back into Vicar St for another lash…best wishes to you and all the good people of Prosperous
Hi Christy,
Myself and my fiancee are going to see you on Sunday(22nd). Its our second time to see you together, and were really looking forward to it. Christmas and Christy in vicar street go hand in hand 🙂 As its my fiancees birthday on Sunday i was hoping you would play a tune for him, his name is Andy Murray(yes just like the tennis player!) Looking forward to the gig.

I have no idea what tonight may bring….what way the wind is going to blow..if the chance arises I will call your love out..but I gotta focus on all 1100 listeners equally..gotta coax these songs out..gotta keep well in with Declan and Jimmy…if the gig is coasting and, if the moment arises, I may mention your sweet man but, be warned, I have a bunch of requests for call-outs already and there will be another bunch when I arrive at Vicar St….you just hold his hand and tell him how much you love him…I’ll sing my heart out for the room
Yet another great chat Christy. Always to love to hear the reports from the road – both the gigs I miss and the ones I’m at. Great night at the Relief of Derry Symphony last night – such a powerful performance and the Venue shaking in the wind – took me back to an April afternoon with the Dalai Lama too – all good memories. It’s a sin that the building will be gone soon – great sound in it. Some magic in the pipes of Liam O’Flynn. Happy Christmas to you, Dec and all the crew, and, most especially, thanks for the part your music plays in keeping me (relatively)sane, Here’s to a happy, healthy 2014.e.
Christy's reply
regretfully, I have not heard Liam’s piping this past year. I did see him on TV playing at Seamus Heaney’s Funeral. Writing this I think back to particular moments listening to him…moments where the sound of his music simply took me away to a place I have seldom been…it has been a priviledge in my working life to have played with Liam O’Flynn
Hi Christy,
Thanks for another lovely ‘Chat’ (and the mention) as the journey continues.
Your recollection of your first full time band been Planxty brings back memories to me of when I first encountered your Music….. I recall thumbing a lift to and from the ‘Horizon’ Ballroom in Mullingar to see Planxty one night, and my now departed Mum sitting up waiting for my return. She couldn’t figure out why I was going to see all them “Long Haired Bucks”. Ah but little did she know what was to follow……..years and years of listening pleasure.
I hope you, Valerie and all the family have a wonderful Christmas.
Best Regards,
Patsy.
NB; Mark says ‘Ta’ for the towel.
Christy's reply
hey Patsy, you have me digging out the old diaries with that “Horizon Ballroom”..what year we talking here ? was it Planxty mark1,2 or 3? I do recall a very early Planxty gig ( 72/73) in what might have been Mullingar Town Hall.Much later, with Planxty mark 5, we played in Bloomfield House -mid 1980s….some of us have since progressed from “Long Haired Bucks” to ” Baldy auld Balladeers”…..many happy returns to you and yours
Howaya Christy. Just want to say that I love your new album and that I’m lookin forward to seein ye in vicar street tomorrow evenin, Sunday, with my mate Martin. I also wanted to tell ye that my 4 year old daughter Clodagh is a big fan of yours, particulary of the song Motherland. It’s great for gettin her to sleep, always has been. She calls ye Christy Muro, or this time last year, she was callin ye Christmas Muro. You’re in good company, she also likes Rob Dylan and Jolly Cash. My 2 year old Donnacha is gettin in to ye as well. Good man Christy. I hope ye have a very happy and loving Christmas. All the best, Jemser.
Christy's reply
Morra Jemser…love to Clodagh and Donnacha….hope you and martin have a good one tonight..I’m just polishing my dancing shoes here
I am reminded….”plaisir d’amour ne dure qu’un moment…chagrin d’amour dure toute la vie.” I think Joan Baez sang that on the Diamonds and Rust album. Chagrin is a good word. I always thought it meant misery but maybe it is more subtle than that. Maybe the divine Miss M from Santiago could assist.
The Christymass chat was fab.
I hope the festive season finds you with cake and family. I look forward to a musical New Year. Xx
Christy's reply
this brings me back to Askeaton Co.Limerick in 1964…I shared lodgings with a lad who had a Joan Baez LP. I listened over and over trying to figure out her finger picking technique. Best of times to you Anuk…keep coming back
Just read you latest email, which was a fine read as always like a letter from an old friend who is always away!
I am glad your latest release has received a good response because it deserves it. It’s nice to know you read your reviews – because you will have read mine (and I played a couple of tracks next to Led Zeppelin and The Stones on my radio show!).
Anyway, here is wishing you and yours a great Christmas and a good New Year. Coming from Nitthumberland I don’t have the Gaelic so all I can add is Cheers!!

I think your review was one of the first to come my way so I got off to a good start…between The Plant and The Jag, I’ve been in worse positions…greetings to all Cramlington songsters…that graveyard hides a million secrets
Hi there Christy
My daughter Georgia called round last night to exchange Christmas gifts. She’s away in London for the Hols. Anyway, you may recall that the two of us went to see you inLiverpool this year.what I didn’t know was at some point she had nipped to the concession and bought me one of your signed DVD’s of the Barrowland gig for a Christmas pressie. Sat and watched it last night much to my wife’s chagrin. Brilliant. Have a great holiday with your family and all the best for 2014
Christy's reply
Greetings to you Frank and to the absent Georgia…glad you enjoyed “Come all you dreamers”. We certainly enjoyed putting it together. Chagrin is an intrigueing word.I’ve not heard it spoken nor have I read it very often but I have sensed its presence.
thank you for an fantastic evening at Vicar Street in Dublin on Dec 15th – it was the top event of our short trip to Dublin.
We`ve seen you and Declan for the third time .
First time was at Royal Festival Hall in London in 2010 and the second time at the Congress Center in Hamburg 2011.
After two times seeing you “abroad” we wanted to see you playing in Ireland (Vicar Street 15th dec,) we loved it!!!
Thanks again – Merry Christmas and a fine 2014!!!
Stefan & Sabine
P.S.: so, you do know now that your songs are heard in Bavaria, too. What about a gig in Munich – we wouldn`t have to go such a long way…
Christy's reply
Stefan and Sabine, happy to read that your visit went well…we also enjoyed ourselves last Sunday Night in Vicar St, there was a sparkle in the room…dont know if we’ll make it back to Bavaria…it must be 20 years since I last played Munich…but anything can happen
