It’s still Christmas Day here (eight hours behind) and I hope you and your family had a very nice day. As others have stated, thank you so much for the joy you bring to our lives – I think you are the Knulp of Ireland except that, unlike him, you didn’t squander your gifts.
Agnes, Nollaig Shona, and I’m glad Dado is doing well. (I can’t find the fadas on this computer.) God love him. Just in the same that every child becomes yours when you have one, I always think every elderly person is like your own mother or father. Your father is a big age. I’m from the North so the Sasanaigh are still with us. Did you see the men on Primetime “No Country for Old Men”? Great characters, and there are many like them out there. You hate thinking about anybody being lonely this time of year. Thanks for the song. I hate being away from home at Christmas. It was sunny today and the hills were nice, but they’re not my hills.
Ride on into the new year, Christy.

Hi All. Between the purple patch at gigs , the new CDs and the sharing of views and songs in the media its been a great few months and certainly shortened the Winter !! Your openness and generosity is really appreciated. Here is a Christmas song from Jackson Browne http://youtu.be/Tr1d0ivyTTk Nollaig shona bheannaithe duit. H
Christy's reply

Hello Christy, I wish you an excellent Christmas!
I’m in Ireland for 10 days and it’s really a pitty for me that your Dublin concerts are sold out, but I’m very happy for you!
I would like to go to the “Bansha” of the little drummer song, but which one is it: the one of Co. Tipperary or the one of Co. Clare or Banshagh in Kerry?
Thanks in advance for your answer & Happy New Year !
Christy's reply
if you cant find Bansha let us know..there may be a spare ticket for a stray Breton.. but you gotta promise you wont bring your Bombarde
Just to wish you, Declan and all of the crew a happy and peaceful Christmas with plenty of relaxation and contentment. Thank you for another year of music and memories – and best wishes for another year of music and mayhem. Good health and glad tidings.
Best wishes and a healthy, inspirational New Year for you and your crew!
When I read All the comments you get it must be heartwarming for you and it makes me jealous not to be Irish !
Beeswing from R.Tomphson was on The radio here this morning, a little weird that someone else was singing it.
Lots of love and see you in 2014 from Chris The shy women from Belgium

Hello Christy, hows you merry christmas. when you were starting out did you uses to swallow alot because you had a dry throat. how do you prevent a dry throat when you sing and play the guitar infront of other people?? thanks
Christy's reply
when I was starting out Conor, my poor throat never had a chance to get dry…I swallowed copious libations of black porter..but that was all a long time ago and I certainly dont recommend it… a throat specialist told me to drink water frequently during my gigs…for any singer, smoking or heavy drinking will inevitably cause problems…..However,no matter what precautions, remedies and gargles we use we will still sometimes encounter problems..the main thing is to protect the vocal chords… excercise your instrument frequently and try to avoid any form of abuse of the precious vocals
Happy Christmas from all in the Hills, Mici an Phoist here still reckons there could be snow on Christmas Day.
Enjoyed the latest Chat and I hear the Vicar street gigs are very special..

Hi Christy,
I remember back in the mid 70s you used to sing Woody Guthrie’s powerful song The 1913 Massacre. Well today Dec/ 24/ 2013 is the 100th anniversary of that tragic event.
I won’t go in to the full story here, but for anyone interested its on Wikipedia etc,or better still hear Woody sing it, suffice to say that 59 children and 14 adults were trampled to death at a Christmas party… The last line of Woody’s song still resonates today.. “See what your greed for money has done” RyanL
Christy's reply
The Piano plays a slow funeral tune.
The Town is lit up by a cold Christmas Moon.
The women they cry as the men they do mourn.
” See what your greed for money has done ”
Thanks for marking the Centenary of this cruel tragedy, for reminding us of that dark Christmas in Michigan. I had no idea of the significance of today’s date. It still goes on around the world. The awful working conditions in the sweat shops of India and Bangladesh. The abandonment of those cockle pickers in Morecambe Bay. The exploitation of guest workers in the leafy suburbs of our own Capital City. Let us remember. Let us not look the other way.
Sending you Best Wishes for a wonderful Christmas and a Happy, Healthy and Peaceful 2014. Thank you for the musical gifts you give all year through.

Thanks Jackie. The Wind is howling here in Dublin this Christmas Eve Morning. I hope everyone got home safe last night. Our crew dismantled the gear and went off in all directions. John to Ballyshannon, Declan to Ballymountain, Paddy to Lisdoonvarna, Davey to Derry/Derry, Dikon to Sligo,Jimmy to Galway while Michael,Geoff and myself hang out here in The Black Lagoon.I wish you all a peaceful time with your families. “Theres gonna be good times when all our dreams come through”
Hi Christy, we’re just home after having the most fantastic night with you at Vicar St. You shouted out to Shane for his 40th birthday & played the Voyage for us – thank you so much, it took him totally by surprise and he was well, well chuffed! The added bonus was that by chance we were at table 8, front row and we got a hand shake and your plectrum – fantastic!! All that aside, it was just brilliant to watch you and Declan once more, you were as fantastic as ever, we bought both your CD’s so we can listen on…. Happy Christmas, looking forward to next year already, Cliodhna x
Christy's reply
So that was yourself up front. I’d no notion you were so close by. Turned out to be a very gentle Voyage last night. Probably the most laid back version we’ve done. Johnny Duhan’s classic song stilled the night. Best wishes to you both.
Hi Christy. Thanks a million to you, Declan and Jim Higgins for an amazing night’s entertainment. I thought The Ballad of Little Musgrave, The Well Below the Valley and Lawless were lovely highlights among a generally great set of music that captivated and touched the whole room. My brother and I thought you seemed relaxed and happy which is always great to see. Hopefully we’ll see you again next year. Happy Christmas to you and your family. Ciaran.

Came home content last night. A few unexpected songs appeared out of the blue. The Stardust was demanded repeatedly by a man determined to hear it. I’m glad now that I sang it. Lawless was constantly requested and it turned out to be a good call. I came back out for the encore thinking we’d play Fairytale NY and then into Lisdoonvarna…ended up playing Stardust, Well Below Valley and Sonny’s Dream.A fellows gotta go where he’s gotta go. Ride On Ciarán.
