its always a good buzz to hit a new venue…good room for sound and a really great audience…I felt the spirit of Paul Funge in Gorey last night. He created the first independent Arts Centre in Ireland 40 years ago from which he ran many and varied events. Paul was also a very good artist himself and his work was shown at many exhibitions. Like many others, his creative talents emerged when he was being taught by Henry Flanagan, a Dominican Father, in Newbridge.
The last time we played Gorey was with Moving Hearts in 1982.After the gig some of us went to Courtown for a dip.
Christy – great gig in Mullingar Park – ye were really on fire!!! Jimmy on percussion is a great addition to the team; was glad I was there to help you out in middle of “Weekend that we spent in Amsterdam” when you had the senior moment!!!
Keep it lit

Christy's reply
I bought a second hand Peugeot 504 from John in Parkgate Street over 30years ago. It was a beautiful car. He was working in Gowan Motors at the time. I try and answer all posts but, occasionally, fail to do so
Hi Christy, looking forward to seeing you in The Amber Springs tomorrow night. I was just wondering if there is any chance of meeting you for a minute of your time as i have a plaque which was presented to sony celebrating 4 times platinum sales in ireland for the album This is the Day. I would like to get it signed if that would be possible. I purchased this at a charity action at home in Clane Co.Kildare for a late friend of mine.

Christy congratulations on a fantastic gig fri. in the park hotel Clonmel. I have to say a big THANK YOU for all you did for Cian on the night, it was out of this world. You really made his birthday extra special. The treatment we got on the night was unreal. A big thanks to you,all your crew, and Paddy Carroll. Everybody and his mother has seen the picture of ye at this stage,he’s so thrilled. You’re a true gent Christy.
Best of luck with the rest of the gigs.
GER, CIAN

I did not see the photo myself yet..it was a pleasure to meet you lovely son
Can you believe the ending of the match today. I was sure that Tyrone were bate but back they came!! It should have been Kildare’s game. The relations who were at it told me that people had left and a man sitting beside them had congratulated a Kildare person, got up to go, and then came the goals. It’s been a good start to the League this year with several teams performing well, so I hope it continues. It’s hard to believe Cormac McAnallen is ten years dead. RIP
On a different note, my sister was telling me she was looking for tickets for the Galway gig in May and they’re sold out. It doesn’t say that on the site. She’s wondering if you’ll do another concert.
In the meantime, Up Tyrone … Oops, I forgot … I’m in America. It’s Go Tyrone as I jump up and down with my pom-poms. (Not a pretty sight)
Christy's reply
there is talk of a 2nd Galway gig on the 15th of may..watch the gig page… I was traumatised on Sunday, sitting on Lunny’s wall gazing into St Conleth’s park as Tyrone slipped in 2 quick goals in the dying minutes….Mickey Harte is never bet..despite the fact that twas my own team beaten it was heartwarming to see his smile after the game…he has suffered so much in recent times…greetings to all balladeers in California
I have returned home and have pulled out the old paper and pencil to formulate my gratitude list. Thanks for another day in God’s kingdom. Thanks to you and Declan and Jimmy. Clonmel was brilliant. I was compelled and drawn in and at times mesmerised and then let go back to the real world. The emotions flowed through a broad spectrum as broad as the Lee. The heights were as high as the Comeragh mountains and the voice was in turn as misty and then as bracing as the Mahon falls. I climbed everywhere this weekend. Thank you to Paddy, The Devine man, Dickon, Davey, Johnny and Geoff. Paddy Carroll and our Hil, who always go above and beyond to assist us listeners and travellers. I am grateful as is Farmer Hayes. These are fine days. Barrowland awaits. Best wishes for Gorey and Waterford. Thank you Christy. Xx

its grand to rise into the mesmeric, I love finding myself in its midst, its an irregular occurance and all the more special for that…Barrowland is shaping up well, listeners gathering from the four corners to climb the well trodden stairs via Bairds watering hole…. ( dont ask for water, be prepared to pause for the angelus ,which is not optional !….) It was great to see you and the farmer in Condae Tiobrad Aráinn….its the home of Bulmers, Frank Patterson, Hurling, Greyhounds, Black Pudding and Babs Keating….
Hi Christy, just home from your gig in the Clonmel Park Hotel.
What a night………it has to go down as one of your best gigs I’ve ever been at, and that’s quite a few.I had some relations from London with me as you probably know..they were blown away by what they saw & heard.
I would have loved to meet you after the show and thank you personally but Paddy was telling me you were heading home after the gig, so fair is fair, after the nights work ye put in tisn’t standing around chatting you’d want to be.
Pass my thanks on to Declan & Jimmy. Take care a while.

Two hot nights in The Vale of Honey. I shed a few pounds myself. Great audience singing both nights, some beautiful voices in the room with a few harmonies floating last night. Glad it went well for you and your visitors.
Christy, my wife and I traveling back to Cork for a wedding this June from Chicago. This wedding was supposed to be in October, however, being from Cork the bride and groom changed it to July 4th in the hope that we could also get to the Munster final….if Cork gets there in the football. Are we good or what!!! However, my wife Kathleen has always wanted to go and hear you play. And I’ve always said, ‘Ah sure Jaysus, tis only Christy Moore, we’ve heard him loads of times before.” 🙂 In any case, this is going to be a birthday present for Kathleen O’ Connor. Wishing you the very best. Up De rebels.Paddy Homan

The one that stands out for me The Fantastic Disappearing Man in the Odeon , Eddie White and myself “snuk in”, we sat on the steps and were terrorfied. The late Tom Munnelly also saw it as a young boy, and we use to swap stories about it. …. Keep the ball long against those Tipp boys again tonight.

Clonmel always rings special for me…I spent 18 months there in 1963-64. Thats where I first heard The Galtee Mountain boy being sung by Patsy Halloran. That clip that Hilary posted was filmed circa 1976. It still rankles with me that Jimmy Faulkner was not properly featured in the clip. Jimmy and I played as a duo yet the director of the piece overlooked his contribution.
Ah Christy, as graceful as ever. You are not much older than me, but you are a gracious elder to me none the less and I bask in your grace and intellect. As I was not able to grow up in Ireland, I missed out on the gift of the traditional music and the gift of those who have REAL wit. If I had grown up in Ireland; either, I would have had some wit also through osmosis ;or, it would have made me a more silent man, since.
But, I apologize. I drink and then think I am brilliant or can sing well. Sorry, I promise, I vow. I will not make this mistake of sending a post since you are so kind – even if I am kindly laughed at – again,
