Christy, thank you for playing They Never Came Home last night and dedicating, it to the 96 it was just one of many highlights on a great night of music.
A word of caution, go easy on the black puddings, rumour has it around Bury that they are a great aphrodisiac. I don’t know which one of the crew you double up with whilst on the road but you don’t want him getting the wrong idea.
Hope you all have a great couple of nights in London and a safe journey back home,
P.S any chance of a trip back to the Pool later in the year?

6 in the bed down the auld pier head…its Liverpool town for me
Hi Christy
It’s been a while since we met at your solo gig in Auckland 1990. I am looking forward to hearing you play with Declan on Thursday night. Keep up the good work. My next highlight on this trip is seeing Jimmy Mac on the 27th in Dublin. Regards Sean Sinnott.
Christy's reply
fair play to you Sean….the red carpet awaits your arrival…
Hi Christy,
my wife and I, we will fly from Switzerland to London to see you and Declan on April 18. We are looking forward to this concert, it will be a pleasure seeing you in concert again after many years. Would you please play “Nancy Spain”? The album with this song on it was given to us from a couple from Dublin in 1976, and they are still dear friends of ours to this day. Jurg & Hanny
Christy's reply
hopefully Nancy will join us….she shows up frequently and sings her heart out
Hi Christy, I’m fulfilling a lifelong ambition by seeing you tonight in Manchester. I finish work at 6.30pm so if you could do a Rihanna and be late on stage it would help me out. Just by 10/15 mins! Have a good one.
hi Christy .. nice tour so far . nice to see everyone again… .. lovely day in Manchester,,, have a good one tonight…. would be nice to hear Jack Doyle if it fitted in tonight. all the best …
Christy's reply
good call that Adam…old Jack sang well last night…resounded round The Bridgewater
Christy – enjoyed the Concert Hall gig as much as ever…..1st time was Barrowland 23 years ago…. Your passion grows stronger and your voice gets better and better. Your Mandela opener is simply a work of art. Enjoy the RFH, it’s a great venue in a great city where you are much loved. Thanks for a great night.
best of luck with the rest of the dates in Manchester + London..It was a treat to be at Barrowland last Friday night, really enjoyed it…great selection of songs….they never cease to get tired to my ears…thanks to all of you on stage, at the side and out front..lets do that again…just let me get me sea legs back first..
Christy's reply
you were centre forward the other night…what a line up of pretty faces peeping over the parapet…great to have such good friends near at hand…see you back on The Rock
Hi Christy, great to see They Never Came Home back on the play list at Barrowland. I know the vibe has to be right to play a song like that but if we are lucky enough to hear it tonight at The Bridgewater Hall could you please dedicate it to the families of the Hillsborough tragedy. The names from The Stardust and Hillsborough may be different but the circumstances are only too similar. The young & innocent die whilst those in authority and power try to cover up the truth about who was really responsible.
Christy's reply
Thanks John..today will be a sad day on Merseyside
Hi Christy
this is RS(14) in a rare CS(9)free moment :p
looking forward to the gig in London this weekend
if you dont mind and the moment to be right .. could you play away you broken heart you? sometimes you splice it with Nancy Spain that does be “go Hálainn ”
safe travelling to everyone 🙂
RS (14)
not a bit of it…I have not played The Raggle much these past years….that said, we never know when the old Rapscallion will pop up…last time he appeared upon The Thames was Easter 2005….back then he was moved on quickly by the authorities (plus dark elements within the Folk Police). The auld tinker has been lying low ever since. Experience tells that he will return but never by appointment. His survival depends upon spontaneity. Being trapped within conformity would stifle his very existence.
Yeah Christy the lurgan crew made it home safe and sound alrite. Next stop the waterfront on may 31st and by the sound of things back to barrowlands when you next play there again. So thanks again for a brilliant night and keep er lit!
Hi Christy, my nerves should just about have recovered from the match yesterday by the time I make it to the Bridgewater on Tuesday. The 15th April marks another important day of course. Justice for the 96. Hope the concert goes well. Andy
Christy's reply
that was some game…I sang Prowsie’s song in Glasgow last night and the crowd really went for it
Thanks a million, Christy, for singing Rory’s song last night @ the Concert Hall in Glasgow, it meant so much to us – we all loved it….my brother was reduced to tears, even more so when it was followed by Back Home in Derry, which is and always will be, our second home! Cheers, Christy, hope to hear you again soon. Best wishes & take care, Rosaleen.
Christy's reply
the last time I spoke with Rory was in Glasgow when we both played The Glasgow Fleadh back in the early 90’s….the song describes Rory well..he was a pure music man
Hey Christy, long time no post from myself. Well I attended the Glasgow Concert Hall gig last night with my great friend John Griffin. Both of us weren’t in the finest of fettle so we had no real expectations of the evening but how fantastically entertained we were. I thought yourself and Deccy were marvellous and seemed to really be feeding off the crowd, despite the odd eejit shouting out requests way too early in proceedings. The set list was superb with the addition of songs I’d never heard you sing like Kevin Barry and also some subtle rearranging of old favourites where Deccy added some new work or I’m sure one song which escapes me now was played in a different key from that recorded unless my ageing ears deceived me. Anyway, I was glad indeed you finally remembered to introduce Jimmy Higgins to us at the end. He is a cracking addition, adding a layer of percussion so subtle that it barely brushed the ould ear hairs on the way into my head. We’ll see you again soon I hope my friend. You have become part of the musical fabric of Glasgow and long may it continue. Dave. PS- My previously errant nephew has been clean and sober now for 16 months and will reach 30 on 23 April. Your previous words of wisdom helped us both enormously as he travelled along that dark path.
Christy's reply
great to hear that the lad is going well….thanks for your comments on Jimmy Higgins’ contribution..both Declan and I are enjoying his playing…he holds the rhythm down rock solid which enables Declan and I to expand upon what we are at…. having a percussion player who knows and is interested in the songs is a rarity… Jimmy has been playing drums and percussion since he was a young boy…..he plays with Mairtín O’Connors Band with whom I will be touring this Summer for 2 months. I first met him with Eleanor Shanley’s band in the 80s. Since then he has toured the world with Riverdance. He also sits behind “the traps’ with The Stunning, and has toured with The Sawdoctors, Altan and a host of other players.
Great gig last night Christy, great to hear a couple of songs that I’ve not heard you sing before. Incidentally, I’ve just finished reading your book “One Voice” and was interested to note that you worked on the oil rig Orion out of Great Yarmouth. I was a diver with Comex and did several trips around the same time.
Christy's reply
Hi Les.. in 1966 I did 4 trips out of Yarmouth onto the Orion Rig for the North Sea Drilling Company …. it was hard going……did meet some of the divers there but, as I recall, there were pecking orders and class divisions on the rig…. I was a lowly roustabout…I recall too that all the senior workers were Texans and they were a mean bunch… after 4 trips I just hated it and eventually got sacked and hellied out..it was one of the last real jobs I ever had…luckily I found a job that I still love..tell us more about your diving days
Thanks for three great gigs.
Said my goodbyes to my dear friends.
I might grab a deep fried Mars bar before I leave, then I’ll take the Fokker 50 and fly home.
Christy's reply
Hi Brian ..it was great to see your smiling face ay Barrowland..the front row were like a line of wind turbines sending up power and good juju which fuelled us in our efforts to keep up with the entusiasm and energy of all those Barrowlanders

Kevin Barry song was powerful in barrowlands.
Dado doesn’t know I’m going yet I hope he behaves.
Do you miss home?
Looking forward to meeting Máire Líne
Christy's reply
I sure do miss home…miss my family…but these days I’m seldom away…its what has to be done to do the work, everyone understands and we all support each other…
Dear Christy,
I will keep my eyes an ears pealed for the scoundrel!
Reading all the messages, everyone is having a great time at the gigs.
