Don’t suppose you want to pop into the Crozon in Sligo the 17th of May for a verse or two at a double 21st!…sure you’re almost there with Galway the 15th 😉
Christy's reply
a double 70th would be more my line..have a good one
Well Christy
Dunno if you use Facebook much but there’s a page on it worth checking out called newbridge down through the years. It has a lot of old photos if the town and well known locals from the early 1900s on. You pop up a few times yourself. Looking forward to seeing you on stage with rubber in June.
Christy's reply
been browsing through the old pictures…its quite a journey seeing old neighbours not seen since boyhood days….part of me still lives in that old Moorefield club, up in Hanly’s Jungle, down Rosy’s Lane,
Christy, We were at the Royal Festival Hall on Good Friday, having travelled up to London especially for the gig. We were not disappointed. We have previously been to other gigs and always enjoyed every minute of each of them. It was grand to hear one or two of the older songs last Friday and we particularly enjoyed the inimitable way that you dealt with the heckler in the audience. May you long continue to give such stellar performances. One day I hope to see you perform on your home turf. In the meantime keep the “craic” going and continue to delight us with the music and songs. “Grand to see you you pard” as we’d say in Cornwall. Will you ever perform in the South West of England?
Dave & Marianne.
Christy's reply
thanks for feedback….its long been on my wish list to play in Cornwall …glad your trip to London went well
Dear Christy
I don’t know if this is the right place to ask you about the possibility of quoting from one of your songs. I have just written a book about a village where I used to live in Donegal, which is about to be published by Sandstone Press. In one of the chapters – about winter and Christmas and emigration – someone sings ‘Missing You’ in the pub. It’s an incredibly beautiful song and was made particularly poignant by this setting. I wonder if you’d mind me sending the relevant chapter together with a few more details about the book to your personal email address.
With very best wishes,
Monica Connell monica@monicaconnell.co.uk

Hi Monica….this fine song was written by Jimmy MacCarthy so permission is not mine to give….nor do I have his contact details..hope it works out for you, sorry I cannot help
My husband and I are planning our “once in our lifetime” trip back to the motherland. We’re hoping to be able to see/hear you play during our visit to Ireland (Sept. 5 – Sept 15 or 16). When I looked up your concert schedule, it looks like you are taking a break from July 2014 until late September.
Is that your most current schedule?
Thank you in advance for getting back to me!
Jenny O’Connor
Christy's reply
Jenny..there will be further gigs added to the schedule…check the gig page and/or sign up for the newsletter and we’ll keep you posted..hope ye have a good trip
Hi Christy,
On May 20th 1994, my partner and I got married, our theme for the wedding was your song ”Voyage”. We had a model of a currach on the alter and instead of having candles symbolising the single lives merging into one we places our oars in the curragh, heading off on lifes journey.
We are 20 years married next month.
We now have our own crew, a boy of 17 and a girl of 16. We have saled through many storms and the boat got flooded a few times but we survived.
The currach is in pride of place over the fireplace with a copy of the lyrics tucked inside.
Dear Christy,
Thank you for a wonderful concert at the Festival Hall on Friday. I thought your concert in Bath last year was great but Friday was even better. You deserve a good rest after that.I was hoping you would sing Easter Snow because i wanted to tell a story about Seamus Ennis’s daughter Catherine but hey, you did about 30 songs, you can’t sing every song in your vast repertoire.I wrote a review on my blog page. If you have a minute to read it. I found the photos on google images. Anyway it is here-http://patrickmaginty.blogspot.co.uk/ . Thank you once again Christy for everything. Pat.
Christy's reply
Thanks Pat..I had the pleasure of hearing Catherine Ennis play the organ..it was a great experience…perhaps you might share the story here
Hey Christy thanks for a great gig
Back at the south bank centre again…do you remember a GLC sponsored afternoon impromptu gig u did in the bar area some 30 odd years ago?! Whatever…we love u ….here’s to another 30yrs!
Christy's reply
I recall a number of GLC gigs back in time… one commemorating The Tolpuddle Martyrs one Sunday afternoon in a London Park ( is there a Battersea Park?) another was an anti-racism gig and yet another was in support of Miners….cant say that I recall the gig you mention..more info might stir the memory
Thank you for replying Christy – and we definitely won’t be leaving it 17 years!!! So glad I have found this web site and signed up for newsletters so will find out when you are next in England. We felt so good being English amongst so many Irish at the gig on Friday – everyone was so friendly….. xx
Bhí oíche deardaoin go hiontach.Támé sa mbaile agus tuirseach.
Go raibh míle maith agat.Morcombe bay was my favourite song it was very clear and nice to hear .RS says her favourite was does this train stop in mersyside. Got to meet a fleet ..ANUK ,Máire Líne (who has a dinosaur phone you know) , Hilary and Adam (who has a camera the size of his head) and Ruth who had a cough that was leaving.
We went into earls court on Saturday .This is the underground trains and it is very dark.RS was telling me a story about a lad back home and a man’s voice came out on a very loud speaker. He said , “Please evacuate the building there is an unexplained emergency” no one budged but me Mom agus two yanks and some staff took off high speed. We ran towards the nearest exit but most the other people stayed there.I looked back and there was RS was still telling the same story in the que and not noticing that there was an “UNEXPLAINED EMERGENCY”.
We stood outside the door not knowing to go back to get RS who was still not noticing and still talking. When she noticed us gone she said to us “what the heck like is wrong with you guys!”.
They said there was a bag left by itself and they were afraid of a bomb attack.Turned out it was left there by a poor yank.we went back to the house didn’t want to go there again.

Thanks for the reply Christy, I asked you some time back if you ever sagt Raglan Road, you mentioned that you had only sang it at a friends funeral. do you think you would ever contemplate adding it to your concert list ?
All the best
Tony
Christy's reply
dont think so Tony….I cant get under the surface, cant find my way in….nothing to do with Kavanagh, more to do with my own shortcomings…..
Hi Christy and Declan – just wanted to say thanks for a great concert on Friday evening at the Festival Hall. Thank you also for shutting up the rowdy girls behind us (who actually left after a couple of songs). They missed a treat. Can’t wait for your return. You all worked so hard that night and it was much appreciated as always. Keep well and take care – we love your music.
Christy's reply
Good Friday was great for us , such listeners by the River side..that great venue…its a priviledge to have access to great stages….when I first arrived in London my ambition was to sing a song during the interval at The White Hart in Fulham Broadway….one night Raymond Rowland gave me a spot..I sang 2 songs there back in 1966,later that year I got my first folk club gig…I never aspired to such Major Concert Halls as the RFH, but now that I am here I really love the experience, I’m not quite sure how it all happened……
Heya, CM,
Seems the music is flowing rich and full along the Thames….
Just wanted to mention that today is the 100th anniversary of the Ludlow Massacre–ultimately it changed miner’s lives for the better, but at the cost of all those who died in the cold and snow near Trinidad……

from Woody Guthrie’s “Ludlow Massacre”

back in the 80s and 90s I ventured some gigs in Canada, never got any further then Vancouver and Toronto, so I have a limited experience of that great country which has produced so much wonderful music
Hi Christy, My husband and I were at The Royal Festival Hall on Friday and what a night. We so enjoyed seeing you again after 17 years!! – that was at Hammersmith Apollo where I wrote to you asking you to play The Voyage for Steve (then boyfriend now husband!) which you did. It was fantastic. Now we have been on our own voyage – marriage and a beautiful 14 year old daughter. I wish I had written to you before Friday to dedicate the song to us. It is so great how you do requests and dedicate them. When you sang The Voyage on Friday we both had tears in our eyes. Thank you for a great night. xx
Thanks for the red carpet on Thursday last and the mention from the stage. I nearly fell off the balcony. It WAS a great night. I had picked you would sing Missing you and Sweet themes flow softly. All of the names were going through my head a few days before as we followed one of my girls around doing the marathon past the names in the song. Until next time, keep up the great work and be lucky. Slan, Sean
Hi Christy
thank you so very much for playing our request, “Nancy Spain”. And what a wonderful version it was. Thank you for a moving and entertaining concert, Hanny and I, we enjoyed every minute of this evening. Well worth making the trip from Switzerland to London. Keep on making great music.

greetings to all our Swiss Songsters…great memories of touring there in the 70s and 80s…recall the Festival in Nyon and gigs in Basel,Berne, Zurich,Geneva…
I have not posted for a while so a chance to say thank you for Liverpool , Clonmel , Barrowlands and the two nights at the Festival Hall . Major memories in what has been the most special period of my life . We took Millie to Glasgow , Leela on Thursday to the Festival Hall and Paddy on Friday . They all had very magical nights and knew so many of the songs and were able to join in in great voice . Part of a well rounded education which also includes a love of the beautiful game and much else that is beautiful besides . .
If league places were decided on songs then West Ham would be runaway leaders , Liverpool would be second with” Walk On” and Palace a long way behind with ” Glad All Over ” . Most football chants are belligerent , tuneless cries of violent loyalty or jaunty playful digs .Chelsea’s ” Blue is the Colour ” lacks everything and is worthy of their lack of class .
” Bubbles” is a wistful and mystical ode to transience and loss .Lost opportunity and wasted hope.Incredible romantic for us dreamers .
” They fly so high , nearly reach the sky and like my dreams they fade and die .Fortunes always hiding . I looked everywhere ” .
A really pleasure to meet Maryline , Ruth , Lars , Hilary , Adam and all the others on the Road . Declan was great ( looking forward to the Half Moon ) Jimmy Higgins adds something very intense and your road crew are amazing . All in all very good times .
Now looking forward to a time post big Sam Allerdyce when we once again get the ball back on the ground where it belongs . Step forward Michael Laudrup your time has come .
Finally best wishes to our Liverpool Brethren today at Norwich Your time has also come and you will be worthy champions despite Suarez’s antics . .
