Greetings to An Riocht…Any word on what has happened to our lovely 4711ers.org….has it been locked down or has it been hacked by some cruel act of misfortune….it has been a constant well of goodwill these past years, a place to drop in and hook up with friends in song. Its only purpose to kindle comradeship and good vibrations. May Day would be the perfect day for it to re-emerge from darkness. Meanwhile, its a grand soft day here in Tipperary…we rehearsed last night and again this morning…The Trad Outfit is primed up, we’re ready to jitterbug and boogie the night away
This is probably the most stupid question ever asked on this forum, but does anybody know if Christy ever listens to songs from other writers? I know he’s a great writer and wouldn’t need to, but I am just curious if any of you might know if he does or not. I have one that I’ve written especially for him to do in whichever way he sees fit, if he’s interested. Any help anyone can give me with this will be greatly appreciated, and thanks for your time and attention!!

most of my songs are either covers or from the Tradition …….post a verse up here and give us a taste of it
Thanks for your inspiring music all these years. I seem to remember that you have written a song, loosely based on the life of Shane MacGowan, but I forgot which song it was. Maybe you can help me…
Take good care and i Hope to see you again perform in Amsterdam or elsewhere in Holland

its a bit of a mystery to me Bas….I have covered 3 Shane ( and Jem) Songs…Fairytale, Brown Eyes and Aisling and still sing them occasionally…with regard to what you ask, all I can think of is a bit of a rap I sometimes fall into at the end of Fairytale…its a fantasy about meeting Shane in Paddy Kennedy’s of Sweet Puckaune one Christmas Morning and the pair of us in flitters with the jitters hangin around the side door lookin for a hair of the dog
We saw you at the Royal Festival Hall the 18th of April. It was great seeing you for the first time and we want to thank you for a wonderful concert! It was a pleasant surprise to see that you and Declan was accompanied by a great percussionist. Please tell Declan & Jimmy we said hi.
Could you please tell us the name of one of the first songs you performed that night (it was something about “the house my mother lived in” I think). I had not heard that song before and I think it was great!
Take care & hope to see you soon again.
Best wishes / Johanna & Martin from Sweden

Song 4 on the 18th was “Gortatagort” written by John Spillane, It is on my 2009 Album “Listen”….. I consider it to be one of the finest songs I have ever heard and it is always a pleasure to sing it. John himself has also recorded it but I’m not sure on what album…I will pass your message on…
Hi Christy, I hope you are keeping well. I have a bucket list of songs to hear live before either the artists or myself ‘leave the building’. I ticked one off the list early this month when I saw The Buzzcocks perform ‘Ever fallen in love’ and really hope Neil Young sings ‘Heart of Gold’ when I go to see him in July. I know you have an eclectic taste in music so I was wondering if you could see one living artist perform one song live tomorrow what would it be?

re shano41, you do see the barrowlands dvd on ebay from time to time, and some local shops here have it as well. if you, still having no luck send me an email gaietycinema10@eircom.net
Hi Christy,
Missed the chance to buy Come All You Dreamers DVD after the Barrowlands gig and since I can’t find it anywhere!!!
Trawled the Internet and DVD stores but without luck.
Is it still available?
If so where can I get it?
Hi Christy
Sadly I cannot come to the gig in Roscrea (nasty thing called work getting in the way!). However, I have bought tickets for my cousins Tommy and Noreen Whelan from Borris in Ossory. It is Tommy’s 70th birthday on 1st May and it would be great if you could dedicate a song to him. They are both fantastic people and love the music.
Look after yourself

Hi Christy,
I came to your gig at the festival hall with my mother – Maureen Thank you so much for your lovely dedication to her (our) family it meant the world to my mum. Her eyesight is very poor but your music was able to transcend that. I’ve not been to one of your performances before but I absolutely loved it & have been playing your music ever since on spotify to all my friends and family! Thank you again – it was a great gig & transported my mum back to Kildaire.

Only 5 more sleeps till we see you in Roscrea, Christy … Since we heard you with Mairtín O’Connor’s band last year in Lisdoonvarna we hoped to catch another gig in this magnificent constellation. Now it’ll be even 3 nights – we will stay on the island long enough to catch the two Ennis concerts … But first of all it will be Decky and Vickie in Limerick – what a treat is waiting for us … See you soon, Christy – be well and happy in the meantime!
Lots of love from Petra + Uwe

This time last week I was looking forward to my first Christy Moore concert. My partner had seen you many times before and was also looking forward to it… Well I have to say neither of us were disappointed. What a wonderful evening! The atmosphere was relaxed and informal and the music was sublime! It was a pleasure and a privilege to be part of it. You didn’t just sing your songs, you felt them; and you made your audience feel them too… Thank you Sir for a wonderful experience and I hope to repeat it soon… Wishing you all good things.

we arrived back home after 6 great concerts in Scotland and England…we appreciate the welcome we received from all you listeners, the great venues we got to play and all the help we got from local crews…Declan, Jimmy and I along with our team Paddy,Michael, Dickon, Johnny, David,Geoff enjoyed the hospitality we received and the welcome given to our music…we’ll be back as soon as we can…míle maith agaibh go léir
Dear Mr. Moore,
we have been at your concert at rfh on 17th with our children 12, 9 and 6y. We arrived 5 min. before 8. The littles discussed 5 min. because of the seated. Swapped places a few times. My husband and I were ashamed. Then came your first song and little Jakob began to cry. But as a perfect mum i had som “Ohropax” = ear plugs with me – put them in his ears. He wanted to sit on his dads knees. You started with the second song and little Magnus told he had to go to toilet… The third song – J. felt asleep. Our daughter (she is a bit snobby – hears only classical music) rolled her eyes. Slightly uneasy we enjoyed the rest of the gorgeous concert a “peaceable” place in that crowded easter-holiday city. A highlight of our London-trip. (Well, some thought only almost as good as the Harry Potter Warner Bros. film studios – but much better than the National Gallery)
P.S. J. awaked with best mood and listened to the last 3 songs! And back at home the boys sing to your C.D.’s although they still speak no English yet. And I heard my daughter playing irish tunes on her violin.
Best wishes from Germany

well done Brentford FC ….its over 50 years since I trudged the Great West Road lookin for work…I was hangin out in Turnham Green….eventually gave up the search and concentrated on songs and chords…started playing down Fulham Broadway….most sat nights I’d fall asleep, miss me stop and wake up in Richmond…it was a horrid trek back to Chiswick
One of the best gigs I have been to. Only recently came across your music. I was lucky enough to attend the gig at the festival theatre. Brilliant I could of sat there for another two hours. Very entertaining. I will be buying tickets again. Worth every penny
Wanted to say thanks for a great gig in the Barras the other Friday, and for singing the Stardust song to commemorate the Clutha. Glad it went down so well, and I see that it got an airing in Liverpool as well. All good and proper. JFT96.
Anyways, you’ll never guess whose picture showed up in me aul’ Twitter feed this afternoon; getting shaken down by the Special Branch in Ballyfermot…..
it was a good call Iain. I had not sung the Stardust song across the water before Your suggestion worked well and rang true…the photo you mentioned was taken the day after Bobby Sands died, Eoghan O’Neill and I went to Ballyfermot to sign a book of condolence..such a rebellious act was deemed to be a threat to the security of the state..thus the Special Branch giving us the “once-over”
Hi Christy
Very many thanks for your reply and for pointing me in the right direction. It really is a fine song and I’ll try and track down Jimmy MacCarthy on the internet.
All the best and thanks again,
Monica
Christy,
Thanks for replying to my post of 2 days ago. The story I wanted to tell in my review if you sang Easter Snow is that Seamus’s daughter Catherine is President of the Royal College Of Organists and played the Festival Hall organ. From your reply I can tell you and probably most of your fans know that already. It’s only me who discovered that recently.Anyway, the pipes must have been in the genes. They must have been very proud of each other.
Also last year after the Bath gig you gave me some info on Jack Doyle The Contender because I didn’t know anything about him. I did some research and found he was born just one day before my dad who was born in County Mayo Sept 1st 1913.
Anyway Christy, All the best, Pat.
