Thanks Christy for the email on that RTE show, of that sad story of the Irish born man, sorry I forgot his name, who was so successful in England; and then, he made it his quest to return to Ireland; in order, to help create some prosperity – in a very real way – not in an IMF/ Goldman Sachs plundering, lying kind of way. A very sad story about what Ireland has become, as corrupt and full of cronyism as the US became long ago.
Hi Christy, I have been following your music for the last 20 years. I asked an Irish born friend for great Irish music recommendations and he said he new you growing up. His name is Kevin Flannigan. I am not positive on the spelling of his last name. Thanks for the music! K.C. McCurrie
Christy's reply
I have known at least 3 Kevin Flanagans in my lifetime but have not been in touch with any of them for many many years
Hi Christy, As part of my wife’s birthday celebrations last year we were lucky enough to see you and Declan at Warwick Arts Centre and had a fantastic night. The highlight of many that evening was Beeswing which I was beginning to think you had forgotten. We are in Ireland next weekend and we have got tickets for Killarney on May 24th which is the actual day of my 60th Birthday. It would be absolutely fantastic if you could give us a shout and be way beyond my wildest Guinness driven dreams if you could give us a shout and dedicate Beeswing to me/us. Thanks Alan and Elaine.

I’d say it’s a great time coming down and reflecting & remembering from the gigs of last weekend in Glor…and to be already looking forward to another two memory makers in Galway..Glor was beautiful..First Time Ever was the highlight for me..the voice is resonating so well, Id travel just to hear that alone..or the Gortatogort song, particularly the line “and the angels bleed …over Bantry Bay”…that just does something for me that’s hard to explain, its beautiful..brings me back to a time when I used to bring the needle back on the Vinyl to play “The Poor Deportees” just to hear the voice and line…”When I came here tonight, my pockets where overflowin…she stole my return ticket and I didnt even know it”…amazing..Enjoyed the time with Hil, Uwe + Petra…
we had fun talking about the shows, our favourites etc…and what songs we’d like to hear or might work with Martin, Cathal , Jimmy & Seamie..Id love a few that might work..” Christys As I Roved Out” ..” Messenger Boy” could run into something…”Poor Deportees” would be special…and we all would love to hear at some stage or in some band or other..”Diamontina Drover” lots more, but thats another days chat…oh btw, I did think the sound all around Glor was top notch all weekend..
You sang Natalie Merchants “Motherland” in Roscrea last week, lovely, hadn’t heard in a while, and again on Sat night in Ennis. I’ve included a link here for you, she was on BBC with T.Wogan , wee chat, couple songs , including Peggy Lees “Fever”, thought you might like a listen…also the other link is Imelda May on same show
may see you in the INEC, safe travels all…
At my suggestion, two friends from Ridgway just caught your show today and loved it! On another note, our local NPR radio station, KVNF.org played a few of Lukas songs off of his new release. Almost fell out of my chair when I heard his distinct voice. Quickly ordered it and another. Might be in the mail today. Some day we will see one of your shows! Best regards- Randy

its over 20 years since I last played Colorado…great experience it was too…met some great people there ( Hi Otter)….my gig coincided with a Festival of Cowboy Poetry. I got to hear some verse and also happened upon some real fine painting…..brought back some mountain chimes that still tinkle here in the breeze …if anyone over there sees Luka..tell him we’re keeping the home fires burning
Thanks, I bought tickets for your gig in the marquee on July 5th, I’ll send a message closer to the time and maybe you will be able to fit in “Black is the Colour” on the night. Thanks again for your reply.
I am hoping and praying I am lucky enough to secure two tickets to see you this Friday in Leisureland :). I haven’t been fortunate enough to see you play live just yet. Have a smashin’ two days in Salthill Christy. Hope the sun shines out as promised, and you get to soak some of the lovely atmosphere in good oul Galway. Grá Mór x

Fri Night flew out the door so we are playing tonight ,Thursday, as well…hope that might help..
Hi Christy, I finally got to see you playing live in Roscrea on May 1st. It was a wonderful night and I cant wait to come go and see you live again soon. You sang so many songs which I had not heard before and i really enjoyed your tribute to merseyside as Liverpool is a place also close to my heart. You didn’t play Black is the Colour on the night which is a special song for me and my partner, just wondering if this will make it onto the set lists for any of your upcoming shows? if so it might help me decide which venue I should come to hear you again as we would both love to hear you singing this song live. Best of luck for the rest of your tour.

May Day in Roscrea was a hum-dinger….great crowd raised the roof, The Racket Hall crew were very welcoming………Black Hair is very often in the set…but not constantly…..if you’re coming to a gig in the future, give a shout again…. and we will try and fit it in on the night

Looking forward to Salthill..is mixed bathing still a mortal sin or has the Bishop of Galway thrown in the towel ?
………..re the history of “Farmer Michael Hayes” ….I dont believe everything I read in the papers or the history books….newspapers and historians have their agendas too. They can also have paymasters closely connected with Political Movements, Financial Institutions, Government Members. We don’t have to go back too far to find people being vilified and cruelly abused for opposing flawed state institutions….
Bottom Line…its a great song and , if all goes well, I’ll be singing it tonight overlooking Galway Bay…..later on, hopefully, in Killarney Town and Sweet Tralee
Hi Christy,
I’m glad to hear the tour is going well for you. I was home in Salthill with Freya and the kids for Christmas but the weather was cat. We only managed to get walking the Prom twice but on the second occasion I noticed a poster advertising your gig on this Friday. I told Freya I would love to come back to see the show and unknown to me she immediately booked me on a flight to arrive back in May five months later on the Friday.
I then got a message that my best friend Cuan MacConnell ( nephew of Mickey) went in and bought two tickets. It was a lovely surprise to get from them both back in late January and the time has now arrived. I am very excited about arriving back in Salthill on Friday and seeing the show. It was at Leisureland I first met you many years ago.
My Dad once told me he gave Mairtin O’Connor his first gig when Mairtin was a young lad and Dad needed him for a wedding so this makes it extra special for me.
I wish you and the lads all the best for the tour and look forward to seeing you on Friday.
The weather was lousy most of the time, but the music kept our spirits high. After 3 gigs in Roscrea and Ennis and some travelling in Clare and Westmeath inbetween Uwe and I are on our way home and we would like to thank the lads on stage and behind for these marvellous concerts.
Last night was definitely the highlight and we appreciated the new appearances on the setlist – well done with the rehearsal! ‚North And South‘, ‚Black Is The Colour‘, ‚Johnny Connor‘, ‚Where I Come From‘, ‚Gortatagort‘ and ‚Smoke And Strong Whiskey‘ were absolute highlights for us. One wouldn’t think this can be topped, but exactly this happened with beautiful versions of ‚First Time Ever I Saw Your Face‘, ‚Hurt‘ and ‚Spancilhill‘. ‚Beeswing‘ got an amazing guitar solo by Seamie, and all songs sparkled like new with all the box and fiddle background. The jigs and reels made the Clare crowd whoop, holler and stamp that the floorboards trembled.
Special thanks to the sound and lighting crew that did a great job as always. These three concerts proved that it doesn’t matter whether the gig takes place in a renowned music venue, a hotel ballroom or a community hall – light and sound of your gigs are always flawless. Good luck for the remaining May gigs with Maírtín, Cathal, Seamie and Jimmy – sweet music roll on!

Thanks Petra…for taking the trouble to comment upon and to praise the good work of our crew…this crew has been together now for over 10 years and have developed into a tight unit that run the technical end of our gigs. They are forever seeking to improve production….the sound , lighting, staging and monitoring are, for me, the best that I have encountered……having Davy at the sound desk is akin to having an extra band member. He is also a musician and he plays the sound desk like an instrument. Geoff runs the lights never knowing what song is coming next…as I start a song he responds seamlessly each night creating fresh lighting cues “on the hoof”… Dikon provides us with reliable stage sound and keeps a keen ear to each player…..Johnny is our ringmaster….forever diligent to what is taking place…he keeps an eye to every aspect of the gig and is “out like a shot” at the first sign of a problem…in the wings and around the room we have Paddy and Michael who oversee all aspects of our life on the road…they insure that nothing gets in the way of the gig…that everyone and everything is focused towards those two vital hours when we all pull together to make the gig happen….these six colleagues are the inner crew…beyond that there are many others who help create the broad spectrum of gigs we play.. Agents and Promoters( and their reps), Venue Staff, Trevor who provides staging, Ciaran who transports lights, security staff, lift assistants who provide help at get-in and get-out time ……its a wonderful priviledge to work with such a diversity of talented and focused practitioners…..very seldom now do we meet “trickies”…well tuned antennae help us avoid dodgy venues and troublesome johnnies….needless to say, none of this would take place were it not for all those thousands of listeners who gather at our gigs …we appreciate the support and encouragement you provide…without our listeners none of this would happen
Hi, Christy can’t wait to see you on May 24th killarney with Mairtin,Cathal, seamie and jimmy our last gig was sneem and that’s was a great night so take care and all the best, tony and Fiona

What a wonderful concert it was at the Glór last night, Christy … Fiddle, accordion, banjo, guitar, bodhrán and drums were weaving a delicate pattern of sound around the songs – sheer beauty – and never too much accompaniment … ‚That’s Where I Come From‘, ‚Faithful Departed‘, ‚Butterfly‘ and ‚Spancilhill‘ were particularly lovely versions. Seamie O’Dowd’s harmonica solo on ‚Faithful Departed‘ was achingly beautiful. Loved the new Nelson Mandela lyrics on Biko Drum and the powerful jigs and reels. Already looking forward to tonight’s performance – let it roll!

The first thing I can remember is the 7th of May 1945 at the back of Donnolly’s Hollow ‘Twas the night before Pa Connolly drove the Roadstone Lorry into the Seven Springs and Saint Brigid started rollin out the Tintawn across the Curragh of Kildare. Then I woke up one mornin I was after gettin conscripted into the Altar Boys. I was ringin the bell and swingin the Thurible, sure the smell of the incense would remind you of the inside of an Arab’s tent and no sign of Gadaffi nowhere….
Belated Birthday wishes Christy.
