Correct Christy. Pat McCabe. I hope you might be able to do a photo op with the Greyhound lads, but you are a busy man on tour. Even a song dedication at a gig would be good.
Christy's reply
gonna play a gig for the LOCKED OUT workers next month
Christy, I watched the episode of you on ‘For One Night Only’ with Gay Byrne again tonight, for a second time. I’m a 20 yr old, aspiring Irish Folk singer, like yourself. My question is; from the feedback at your concerts, do you think that Irish Folk music will be non-existent after your generation (as in people still listening to it)? or Will it still be there for aspiring Artists like me, in your opinion? Cheers Christy.
Christy's reply
There are more people listening to folk music then ever before…( “folk music” becomes more difficult to define) …there are certainly more practitioners around now….degrees in music abound…we have Schools of Music…Lectures in Bodhrán Playing…Degrees in the Sean-Nós.. A University dedicated to Folk Music….gigs everywhere…albums released daily…..50 years ago there may have been 1 album a year released….gigs were few and far between…Folk Singers were often viewed with distaste and trepidation ( this still may be the case in certain quarters)…the future is secure PROVIDED the ‘aspiring artist’ is prepared to go to any lengths to create their sound, has a healthy obsession with the practice, has music in their veins…. aspiration need perspiration….Good Luck Graham
Christy, You’ve always been a great supporter of workers causes. Any chance you’d lend some small support to the Locked Out Greyhound Waste workers? A picture would be enough with the current poster being circulated. I know it’d be a great moral booster for those workers who’ve been locked out now for over a month.
Christy's reply
would you not put your name to this request…that would be small support in itself
Hi Christy.
I’m learning your song ‘Viva la quinta brigada’ It’s a brilliant song but the author is even better.
I just have one question: What does ‘No paseran’ mean?
Thanks.
Christy's reply

Hi Christy …Thank you for a fantastic gig last night, on the shores of Lough Rynn down there in Lovely Leitrim. Sumptuous surroundings for sure, hugely impressive venue…great room, mighty vibes and the sound, spot on as always. “The First Time” and “Joanie” were just two of the real hair raisers for me from a great set. There was no sign of flaggin at any stage that’s for sure, even though ye were going for the 3 in a row. The energy and passion of the music makers on the night was tangible and it was a sheer privilege to be in that space. “The City of Chicago” second in, went down well with the nephew, Oisin and got him rightly pumped up for Donegal’s double earlier today in Clones. “Missing You” his favourite CM song, is one that will always draw a tear from the returning emigrants eye. Great as always to catch up with Hilary and Lar, top people for sure. Good to Declan, Jimmy and all the crew in such fine fettle. Enjoy your well deserved break Christy …Love & Respect Martin Mac

Morning there.
Lovely summer day in Oldham and all is well. Reading all the posts and wishing I’d been at the gigs. Still, I play the Barrowland DVD, tell the wife she needs a long soak in the bath, throw the 15 yrs old in the cellar, pour myself a drink and hey presto!
do you ever find you listen to a song a few times and don’t really ‘get it’ and then all of a sudden it hits you as to what it’s all about, or at least what you think it’s all about. Happened to me the last week with Beeswing and The Contender. Never even realised Beeswing was written by Richard Thompson. Playing them constantly now so I can give em a blast at our open mic night maybe in a few weeks. Keep watching Youtube to see how you play it. Even saw a clip of someone showing us how to play the Richard Thompson version but I thought feck that. More chords than a 60’s university re-union. Last before I go. Open air gig? get on to them boys at Fairport and lets see you at Cropredy next year.
Take Care of yourself and the family.
Frankie
Christy's reply

Love & Respect Martin Mac
