Just wondering have you heard of this song,’He Fades away’ from the pen of the late Alistair Hulett it’s about a Blue Asbestos Mine / Production Facility out in the sticks, of Western Australia.. could be likened to so many tales of those who paid an all too heavy price to bring home a wage….but this is different as a whole community were caught up by the toxic fall of Dust liberated around the township / now a Ghost Town … now it’s the mothers and children of those miners are being taken away by asbestos related Cancers …. fraternally Malachy .https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UWFqFMnonjY
So glad to have been there in Liberty Hall….on a night of high energy and real anger towards these employers who treat people with such disdain, hard to believe this can still happen in this day and age .. but also great to see the spirit of the people who have stood up to be counted and those who have rallied to help in the struggle.
the tickets were bought anyway wether or no…
and a fantastic job you made of John Spillanes fine song….
The Benefit Gig for the Locked Out Greyhound Workers last night was fantastic. So good to show them support, well done to all involved both on stage, and behind the scenes, it gave me goosebumps.

Thanks for sharin Carobio….I remember when I was ridin the High Stool, expandin and expoundin…could’nt tell me arse from me well bent elbow…. I knew it all then, up against the counter I’d weigh you up in 10 seconds flat..until I turned to go..whereupon I could’nt find the handle of the bar room door…I learnt it the hard way, knowin it all is a lonely place to be…..59 to 1….good odds
Congrats to all who brought the gig together in Liberty Hall it was both powerful and emotional,,,and I’m sure it gave the Locked Out workers great encouragement,,,, lets hope it get resolved soon,… Beir bua agus beannacht. H

Let Us All Support the Workers Locked Out in the Greyhound Dispute. Let us all look at the Modus Operandi of Michael and Brian Buckley…let us ponder upon the demonisation of the Locked Out Workers in popular Irish Media….these workers are the people who empty our bins, who take away our rubbish, who begin the process of recycling our waste…..these are PAYE workers (when allowed to work)……..Thanks to everyone who contributed to Last nights concert in Liberty Hall, Dublin….to Don Baker for his thrilling set, Sheamie O’Dowd who came from Sligo to play, Eric Fleming life long Trade Unionist and singer, Frank Connolly of SIPTU who brought all the elements together, the Trade Union Members, nation-wide, who give ongoing weekly support to their LOCKED-OUT fellow members……
If all goes well, there may be 2 trips across the water next year…. in May and October…dont have details yet…. they will be posted later this year… by that time we may be talking UK and Scotland….remains to be seen
Hi Christy,
Maybe you remember me; I wrote to you earlier this year saying my husband and I are traveling to Ireland in September. I am very happy to report that we are going to your show in Carlow on Thursday, Sept. 11. John, my husband, has been listening to your music for years. One of his favorite songs is Raggle Taggle Gypsy. No pressure, just a request that you might consider singing it on 9/11/14. We’re looking forward to seeing/hearing you.

Fair Play Hilary.Just watched that now and realised that I had, inadvertently, dropped a couple of verses since first singing it in 1969. What terrible images those photos show. On and On it Goes. Slaughter of The Innocents.
Weather grey with light showers.
Just catching up on all the posts having been over in Spain for a few weeks. Had some Gambas Pil Pil one night with so much oil in it I was surprised the U.S. hadn’t invaded the plate.
Just about ready to give The Contender a try out at the open mic night. Had no idea who Jack Doyle was before I started learning the song and I would recommend anyone to look him up on Wiki. Couldn’t agree more with one of your comments a few days back about how some songs just don’t mean anything anymore to you and even make you wince. I have the same feeling with the fecking Birdy Song.
Take care of yourself and yours
Frankie.

its a fine song from Jimmy MacCarthy…he really captures the spirit of hopelessness and madness that goes with the disease of alcoholism..it has beauty in it too…Jack Doyle had many different sides to him..Jimmy Mac describes many of them
Hello Christy, the latest Neil Young release – A Letter Home – might be of interest to you, a low-fi record of covers with an interesting story behind it. Not for the casual listener I think but the songs themselves are great. http://pitchfork.com/reviews/albums/19295-neil-young-a-letter-home/
