How are you finding the touring? And are you playing the morra night? Thanks for the bit of advice a while ago, we took it onboard and it really helped us! If your free the morra night we are doing a concert in Belfast https://themaclive.com/whats-on/marquee-ceoil-oiche/
Cant wait til hear you again, we are both heading over to the Barrowlands to catch you near the end of the year. Cant wait to feel the atmosphere in the place.
Hopes all well anyway sure, and goodluck! 🙂

Well done to urself & Declan on tonight’s performance in the TF, just home from it. Another fine performance, looking forward to Dec’s solo album. Ride On.
Thank you very much, dear Christy, for that wonderful Chat. Enjoyed to read it, very captivating! In parts I felt as if I was at the gig myself. Especially loved your reflections on some of my favourites like Gortatagort, Musgrave etc.
Last week we had a nice musical experience, a youg band, called Caladh Nua, played in our town’s folk club. The lead singer has got a lovely voice and her performance of The Banks of the Lee was very emotional. Then I became aware that I haven’t heard you sing this beautiful song since a long time. Fortunately I found the old cassette with a recording (transmitted by Lyric FM) of your Bantry MoT gig in 2004 where you opened with that gem. And now I can’t stop listening …
Hope you are having a good time in sweet Mayo. Enjoy Bealtaine, Traudel
Christy's reply
used to sing that song a lot in my younger days..its been resting these past years…no news yet of this year’s Bantry line-up
Nice to see the comments on Harry Chapin. Loved that man and his music. Went to see one of his last gigs before he was so tragically taken too early in a car wreck. Mr. Tanner my fave Chapin song followed by The Rock. He also did much for world hunger causes that his family continues. He left an honorable legacy.
Thanks for the responses Christy. I think this is my last “you will be surpried to learn that we record all our gigs” question. I just wondered if you remember which was the first of the gigs you have recorded? (No worries if not) I hope you are having a lovely weekend. : ) xox
Christy's reply
I will check that out at the soundcheck and let you know later ( on this post)…just spoke with the man in charge of the archives dept…he is a forgetful sort but reckons in was circa 2006 ish
David, that performance of ‘The First Time Ever’ is indeed magical. I have a connection to that. Christy, Declan and Donul dusted it off as a request for my wife who I had taken over to Vicar Street for Valentines night. They had not played it for a long time and rehearsed it during the afternoon in reply to a request I had sent. A week or two ago later they recorded it in Cork and added it to the Vicar St album. It has a special place in our family collection.
Happy birthday, Christy Moore! A special present from Italy
Geographically he was in limbo sings Christy Moore in Casey…
Well, here at ItalishMagazine we had the idea to bring the Irish geography of Christy’s songs out of that limbo on a… Very special Google Map.
We have spent quite a lot of time scanning the whole Christy Moore’s work in the way we like: making with it (we hope) a great web-content about Irish culture. We decided then to publish this map as a present for Christy’s birthday.
So, Christy, Breithlá Shona Dhuit from Italy, and thank you for your music. We hope to see you soon, to shake hands with you and, who knows, maybe one day have an interview with you on our webmagazine!
We do really hope Christy Moore’s fans will appreciate this map, and we’d really love to have feedback about this and grow new friendships and opportunities to share wonderful Christy’s music not only in Ireland.

Been listening to Bright Blue Rose. Know you had an experience
singing this song. This song is mysterious and raises many questions.
Wishing you the sweetest gig yet Saturday night. Shine on as always.

its a grand Spring afternoon here in County Mayo….its been a soft and cool with intermittant rain and wind… a hoor of a day to be mounting Croagh Patrick….I sincerely hope that Edna does not have to carry Trapp back down on his back….I was invited to climg The Reek for a bit of high profile prayer but decided to preserve the bit of energy I have left for the High Altar of The Travellers Friend…peace be with you Wolf…soundz good
I am actually English but took 6 years to sail to Australia across the pacific. Just have to say that Christy was with us all the way! Nothing like a night sail with the moon and stars and Christy singing……ooh – gives me goosebumps just thinking about it. He’ll be with us on the next leg too.
Thanks for your music Christy. x

Hi Christy,
Looking forward to your gig tomorrow night in castlebar. It’s been 4 years we were in ireland and it now already feels good to be back. We bring our children lars and eva with us, for our daugther the first gig. Both love the live versions of lisdoonvarna, it would be great if the song would be on the set list in castlebar. But if not, we all will enjoy, for sure,
Thanks for all the good work and see you tomorrow.

Hi Lars and Eva…welcome to Ireland.. see you in castlebar..OOOO Lisdoonvarna
Hi Christy, looking forward to watching and listening to yourself and Declan tomorrow night in Castlebar, been to most of your gigs in Mayo over the last 6/7 years and always enjoy them – you might give Ordinary Man a blast, if you can. Unfortunately it’s become a song relevant to the times again. Thanks and keep her lit!
Christy's reply
just polishing the boots and ironing the shirt Vince, we will do our level best in the TF
Really like LiamB’s description, makes a city bloke want to walk a few fields and farms..a great post. Yes, the chats are great, we all read them, nice for us who cant make the trips. And nice to see Simon above mentioning Bruce too..all good, and hope all is well with you..have a great weekend giggin..
Christy's reply
morra Lar, we must take a ramble and catch up, hope the Ros hens are laying
I’m not surprised that you record all the gigs Christy, I guess the technology is there these days that it probably goes straight on to a hard drive on your sound engineer’s computer anyway. Not so sure the compressed sound quality would be worthy of release though. Can’t beat some good old fashioned microphones recording directly onto tape methinks but I’d say the set up costs would be prohibitive to do that with every gig. Anyway, I’ll console myself with the thought that one day in the hopefully far distant future when you’ve decided enough is enough with the live playing, you’ll use some of your time to review and issue the best of some of these gigs that you’re recording. Best toddle off and get the ould housework done now, I have “Live at Vicar Street” on as my background music, a fine album that I haven’t listened to for a while. Your rendition of The First Time Ever I saw Your Face (maybe my favourite song of all time) is sublime.
Christy's reply
Thanks David…..an oft covered song, I was hesitant to so it but took a chance on it…that recording was made in The Savoy,Cork at a Simon Community gig (I think)…I have long since had a wish list of songs to cover and that was one of them…2 done and 3 still to do
Christy, what a fantastic journey you brought us on in your last mail. Checking my mails before rushing out the door but sat to read every word…wish I’d been at all those gigs!!
Christy and Declan. I am currently reading Michael Sandel’s latest (2012) book “What Money Can’t Buy: The Moral Limits of Markets”; tis a very interesting read and one sentence on page 39 jumped out at when your man is discussing the pricing of Springsteen concert tickets and how keeping ticket prices relatively affordable is a way of keeping faith with his working-class fans. The sentence that got me and immediately took my mind’s eye back a couple of weeks to your wonderful concert at Newcastle City Hall on April 8th reads: “The performance consists not only in the songs but also in the relationship between the performer and his audience, and the spirit in which they gather”; thought it worth sharing. Come back soon!
Christy's reply
there are many different dimensions to these performances of which we are a part…the words and music, the way that Declan and I play them, the atmosphere created by the collective of listeners, the venue itself….these are the four main ingredients but within each there are other factors that can enhance or detract from a gig….the sound, the lighting, the promotion, the security, the list goes on but at the heart of it all is the work…without the actual songs themselves nothing takes place
Christy (& Declan)
Sorry for delay in posting comment. Attended gig in Charleville last Saturday. Thank you for sharing your gift with us. Two hours of sheer bliss. Two hours where the trials of the day were completly forgotten. Two hours where I could’nt close the smile on my face, and that included singing. (Well you try it!) Brought me back about 40 years when at 18, I played Saturday nights in a local pub, to earn the money for the pictures. Things were simple then. Thanks again for such a great night.
By the way, not sure if you are familiar with a song by Harry Chapin called Mail Order Annie. Fabulous lyrics, but may not be your thing.
