Tickets for Barrowland have just arrived and not long now ‘til its Friday and the Forum. I’m proud to be taking my grandson Ryan and his girlfriend Demi to their first Christy and Declan gig. Ryan, the invincible, was born with Congenital Heart Disease and we will be celebrating his 18th birthday later this month. ‘Twould be great if you could say hello (2nd row on your right) It’s still cold on that stage so let me know if youse’ll be needing woolly hats, scarves or fleeces this time. Have a great time in Derry.
Hi Christy,
we are back in Belgium. On behalf of Lars and Eva thank you so much for Lisdoonvarna and the special attention you gave us during your gig in Castlebar. On Sunday we followed the coach and the prime minister with a visit to Croagh Patrick, before visiting friends in Donegal. We had 4 unforgettable days in ireland. Unfortunately, we couldn’t stay longer, and attending your gig in Derry on Saturday. But we will come back, and as you know you’re also very welcome in the low lands.
Looking forward to Declan’s solo CD.
thanks again and all the best
Eva, Lars, Els and Piet

I heard your response when I called out Lars and Eva…glad you had a good trip and greetings to all our Belgique songsters
Hi Christy! Really looking forward to the gig on Saturday. Haven’t seen you in a few years now. OJ the guide dog will be there again, and he said to tell you he’s fond of smoke and strong whiskey 🙂
Christy's reply
good to hear from you again…hope you and OJ have a good night..Shine On
Early early Joni Mitchell, not too well known but another gorgeous song from her, ‘Urge For Going’. It was good for Tom Rush who sings it beautifully. Joni’s version is also great but a little faster (so sweet to see her when she must be no more than 18) . His version is the first and then hers. I hope you enjoy, as I know you’re a Joni Mitchell fan. Maybe you know it already?
Website looking great Christy and team! Will share on Facebook! Hope all is well. Don’t know if you remember Christy, I interviewed you on our local Youth and Community Radio Station in Brownlow, Co.Armagh, called Xtreme FM back in 2004, how time flies…
I can remember everything that happened 40 years ago but 2004 is a different matter..hope all is good with you in Argentina, go easy on the meat….dont do facebook despite loads of advice to the contrary…I need to save some time to practice, tell us a bit about whats happening, I think your link is inappropriate to this site

Thanks for your note…I do what I have to do… these songs come from many writers around the world and I write a few myself….its been a life of songs and music for me and I’ll keep going as long as I’m able…I dont seek to be any role model, I like it when people like the work, I get uncomfortable with stuff beyond that….in 1961 I decided I wanted to be a folk singer, in 1966 I set out…the records, the bands, the popularity all just happened and its all been fine…if all that goes I will still want to sing…I recall playing to 4 people one night in Aberdeen, it was a lovely night…I sing to myself every day and thats cool too…dont knock your buddy for being in thrall to Nicky Minage, its understandable for she appears to be a most healthy young lady..see you in Derry…I’ll see if I can get Nicky up for a Bodhran solo
Looking forward to a great weekend in Doire, Didn,t realize until today that there is a jazz festival on there over the weekend too, could be another gaggle to remember . Only a few more sleeps to go. “last night as I lay dreaming……”
Well Christy our first National Title since Squires Gannon lifted the Sam in 1928,you have to have a song ready by Sept, not sure what year.
Christy's reply
what a great day for The Lilies…saw you and Grainne in O’Rourkes for the Geantraí..there seemed to be a crowd in from the dogs in the front bar…spotted Frankie, Róisin, Paul McCormack too and a few other hardy annuals….
And now for a wee poem. Hope ya don’t mind. I think you enjoy poetry and might enjoy For The Anniversary Of My Death by same poet as well. It builds beautifully so that the last few lines get you. At least they did for me.

Dear Christy,
Spring has come, at last, and the weather forecast looks promising even for Donegal this week. So we will leave our woolen coats and boots of leather at home when heading for Derry. We are looking forward to 4 gigs this week – Christy & Decky and Van the Man sharing a stage (albeit not the night or the bill) – does it get any better than this ? Yes it does – we will meet friends from all over Europe there – some of making the journey from a mysterious Kingdom and a city called Doire, from remote Donegal, while others arrive from SwitzerNetherEngland+France. And as experienced at the London Feis 2011 for the first time, 4711ers and the mad Van fans called Vanatics will mingle – that’s pandemonium: 4711ers joining Van gigs and Vanatics attending Christy gigs and bundling their energies for some infamous gaggles … Not sure if the bold St. Brendan made it from Kerry to Doire on his sandals – but it would be lovely to hear from you about his travels when we are in the walled city ! But whatever you choose to play will make our night(s), there was much raving of your recent set lists and performance among the 4711ers community lately. See you soon, Christy !
I am always very pleased when I look at the gig page and see that I will attend the next gig on the list, but first we have to celebrate Queen Beatrix’ birthday today.
Congratulations, Christy. A disappointed Tyrone fan here, but fair play to Kildare. The better side won. It’s amazing what an oul jet off to Frijiliana can do for a team…
Christy's reply
Thanks Lizzy….good luck to Tyrone Boys until we meet again
Bonjour Christy, so here we are in Donegal… Thank you for your answer to my last post … So I won’t be shy and thought about a set of songs I’d love to hear…but then I realized you might not be willing to sing till 4.0O AM both nights so I cut my long list short. So I kept the January Man and /or Wally Page’s sixteen fishermen… and The bright blue rose but that last one is not for me… And the wonderful Away you broken heart …And all the songs of the Planxty years …. And … I’d better stop, since you won’t stay until 4 in the morning and anyway, all the songs will be a treat. See you soon. Carole
Hi Christy, we didnt get a chance to see you in a while but Castlebar last night was worth waitin for, fantastic concert. Had it booked before Dunlewy was announced so twice inside a month is def an extra bonus. Well done once again.

great to sailing for the North West…..its been a long time
Mornin Christy, Good to hear about your gig last night. I was asked to share the following link on here. I hope you don’t mind. The Rocky Road To Poland – Official Republic Of Ireland Song for Euro 2012 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r5aZjE15Ye0&feature=player_embedded : D XOX

Joxer has finally got the Bedford down off the blocks…He has the engine out for re-tuning (concert pitch). When I dropped in yesterday he had this track running on the panasonic…The rest of the lads are saving up for a SatNav because Joxer’s eyesight has deteriorated badly since Stuttgart ’88….The interior of The Van is in rag order as Mrs Joxer has been keeping hens in the back since ’92 …There is a solidified layer of Pigeon Shite on the roof and bonnet which looks quite artistic. Were he to park up in IMMA he might well end up a member of Aosdána. The windscreen is at the bottom of the yard where it has been employed as a cloché to toughen Joxers hash seedlings before replanting them out in the Japanese Gardens….Your post carries a great auld song which is based on a true classic, certainly more inspiring then “Irelands Call”, a song which I blame entirely for our Rugby teams recent uninspired outings…it would suck the life out of a Kamikaze pilot….
Love you Christy, but I’m backing Tyrone tomorrow. Here’s hoping it’s a good match.

I have just wrapped the sangwidges and I’ll shortly be heading for Hill16. We are quietly going about our work in the Short Grass and, with a bit of luck, we might make it past the first round of the Leinster C.Ship. We are, once more, going for the one in a row.

Apropos of nothing on the site except that it comes from another fine Irish writer…and I think there’s a song here somewhere:
If you are not too long, I will wait here for you all my life.
