Christy i thank you and Declan for a excellant concert last night.Seen you numerous times and personally last night was the most enjoyable i been to, song selection and crowd wise.Maybe i am wrong but i thought as the night went on to started to really get into the gig and crowd were great listeners last night.Little musgrave to start, john o dreams to finish, christmas song in there also and Rory is Gone,i asked for it earlier in the week and hopefully you dug it out for me as its always a pleasure to hear it and Declan letting rip.You have made this Rory a happy man and may you have a good night tonight and see you very soon in the near future,Thanks Christy and regards to Dec.
Christy's reply
it was your request that unearthed that song last night. we rehearsed it at the sound check all for you boy…I threw in a “that was for Rory” at the end but it must have got lost in the cacophony of sounds….there is so much Jazz in the air in Derry this weekend, I dont know where I’m at…its like a Paddy’s day in New Orleans
Thank you for the wonderful night yesterday in Derry, Christy. Great songs …. Away ye broken heart stunningly beautiful and the sharing of Billy Gray and Sarah MacLane’s love song with Declan was really something. I said “Merci beaucoup” when we shook hands but as you looked quite puzzled, I’ll translate. It means “ Thank you very much”!! We’re longing to see you again tonight. Carole from France
Christy's reply
Thank you…its good that you enjoyed the gig, having travelled so far to be here…when you said “Merci beaucoup” I replied “tá failte romhat”…..I looked puzzled because I was in a puzzled state of mind last night, in an unsettled space, found it difficult at times between songs, once I’m in the song I’m fine but ,in between songs, I sometimes suffer puzzlement….the audience were a healing source for me..the way you listened and shared….
Gathering from the comments, was an amazing concert last night. Tonight, I’ll be there in spirit shouting out requests for Sweet Music Roll On, Missing You, Cliffs of Doneen, among so many others.
(Referring to earlier post re: A Bunch of Thyme and Lisdoonvarna brawl, definitely not dancing as we had to flee for our lives, thanks to Sean. Was 1979, so maybe the music deities inspired you to dust it off to warn some young ladies there that night, and no I did not heed it.) Shine on darling man
Christy's reply
I gigged sweet music once about 20 years ago….seems that I cannot do it live…happens sometimes
Hi Christy and welcome to Derry ! Delighted to see you again and thanks a million for the really enjoyable gig tonight which was long overdue for me – I was feeling withdrawals coming on ! It was a real pleasure meeting up with all 4711ers – and having been a “pen pal” to Brian I finally had the pleasure of meeting him for the first time – you just had to do the Honda and Amsterdam which I love ! Cant wait to get on the road again with Martin for another special day Gra agus Beannacht Christy Geraldine x
Christy's reply
hope you gaggle are having a rare auld time….lets put another drop of juice in the tank
Hi Christy, just “Back home from Derry”….great to see you as always and thanks for the gig. Like John, “Spancill Hill” was the highlight for me tonight, was worth the drive up from Killybegs just to hear that alone. “Amsterdam went down very well tonight also I thought (Brilliant) ! Good news is Ger H and meself get to do it all again tomorrow night…..hoping to get into town a bit earlier, park up and watch the Cup Final first, C’mon The Reds !! See ya later… Love & Respect Martin Mac
Christy's reply
hope the afternoon goes well…your team sure do need some uplift…Kenny has been looking crestfallen lately..I think he came a gig once in Glasgow but we didnae meet…Spancilhill comes out so rarely that it always glistens…I still remember the first time I heard it back in 1965…. twas at the bottom of “The Windswept Hill” in Tulla, County Clare..in John Minogues back kitchen….
Enjoyed the gig tonight Christy – big highlight for me was Spancil Hill. Looking foward to tomorrow night’s gig too – maybe “The Time Has Come” will fit in for Bobby Sands 31st anniversary. Will be a good gig anyway, whatever songs rise to be sung. Was a ground hurler myself – but only cos i kept dropping the ball. Enjoy your visit to Derry.
Christy's reply
good man John, lets face the puck out one more time, ground hurling all the way
Hi Christy. I just wanted to post a message thanking you for the amazing performance you put on tonight at the Millenium Forum. All the stories and the amazing songs sing true to my heart. A lot of your memories date back to over 20 years before I was born but with the stories you tell they almost let me feel like I can be a part of it. You are such an amazingly gifted man and it has been a pleasure to see you both tonight and back in November 2010. I very much hope you will come back to Derry very soon!
Christy's reply
we have both been gifted with the music and words, our pleasure comes from the sharing…, gifts become dull if not shared, to have such passionate listeners is indeed a great priviledge, one that never ceases to be inspirational and uplifting….we will be back very soon..thank you
Wish I was back in Derry … !
Good afternoon dear Christy, Hope I’ll see you play some day in the walled city, this time I only can be there in spirit. My heart is with you and the bunch of 4711ers. Enjoy the gigs!
Best of luck to you and Declan, Traudel

Christy: just back, Stateside, the girlfriend loved the show in Castlebar, (her first) she says you are “very cute” and thank you for the request, we returned to Clontarf Castle last Monday with the Parents, celebrating their 50th Anniversary, the place where their Voyage began, all is well with them and my Dad sends his kindest regards; long may you Ride On and Shine on you Crazy Diamond. Gary B
Christy's reply
good to hear from you Gary…I went a bit awry in Barcastle and hoped I had not caused you any discomfort with my bungled dedication…well done for making it to the 50th, I wish your parents many more years together
Didn’t you sing A Bunch of Thyme years ago? I could swear I heard you sing this…it was in Lisdoonvarna or Ennistymon one night at a town hall type place. You sang several songs beautifully as always, but this one felt like you were warning me specifically…such is the interpretation of young impressionable minds. After you were done singing, the folding chairs were removed from the floor and people started dancing, a wild kind of clog dancing which looked like great fun, but my Dublin beau would have none of it. And the night got wilder from then on, however I’m fairly certain you sang and left shortly thereafter and so you missed the brawl which had been instigated by my Dublin fella. At a spoken word event recently, I read a story about this particular night. It’s entitled ‘For The Love of Christy’, because I was so jazzed to be there at a Christy Moore concert. That was my one and only time thus far. Next time, if there is wild clog dancing afterwards I will join in, and forego the melee.
Christy's reply
Guilty your honour..it was indeed in my repertoire twixt ’68 and ’75….I heard it at a Folk Club in The Lake District in the beautiful town of Cockermouth…The resident singer Muriel Graves, sang two songs that night that took my fancy, the aforementioned plus ” Bogies Bonnie Belle”. She was kind enough to share both of them with me and I still sing Bogie’s occasionally….your experience must have been in Lisdoonvarna for they will break into wild dancing there at the drop of a slip jig…many are addicted to dancing in The Spa Town, its something in the water that brings it on…certain of the dances may be misconstrued as brawls by genteel guests unused to such full blooded cavortions….
No Killer Whales swimming up Clonakilty bay tonight but we did get plenty of fierce powerful songs that John made up out of his own imagination, like.
More John Spillane at Whelan’s on sunday.
Christy's reply
Johnny Spillane surely is on fire these days…he is producing wonderful songs below in The Hit factory..long may his muse linger…
It’s Orca ORCA the KKKKKKiller whale 🙂
Happy time in Derry to the collective, drive safe and dry everyone. Great memories of walking the walls with the best company and taking that awsome picture down there. Museum, Fish AND Cod with garlic, Richie and his box, Ruth and her pipes, Jimmy in fine voice, Tina filming it all…. snow on the way to catch Christy in front of the GPO the day after… the things we’ve done to hear a good song !!! blessings
Christy's reply
One of the great songs… a few years back I tried to cover it, after 3 months I had to give up….only John can do this song justice…I love to hear him sing ” Órca, Killer Whale”

Looking forward to the Derry gigs at the weekend. Just thought i’d let you know that the Lily White hurlers play Derry in the Christy Ring in Celtic Park @ 2.30 on Saturday afternoon. I know you will probably be concentrating on getting “in the zone” for the gigs at that time but thought i’d let you know anyhow. Safe travelling to you, Mick, Decky and all of the crew and 4711ers. Derry will be delighted to welcome you.
Christy's reply
