What the ‘eck is going on Christy!? They’ve closed the Thames Barrier as Her Maj and her army are on the move! Theres gonna be movers and shakers and people in the know carrying the full load. This day is perfect for Sweet Thames Flow Softly. I can hear you singing it. No tiaras no tantrums and no taxes. Xx

some collection of chancers on “The Barge”….how do they get away with it….private trains, regiments, estates, tiaras, yachts, planes, helicopters, estates, castles, thoroughbreds, inbreds, billions of tax free bucks, adulation, respect, diamonds, jockeys, stallions, brood mares, lads and ladies in waiting, farms, gillies, rangers, range rovers, rolls royces, carriages, under carriages, footmen, handmaids, arsebandits, biographers, portraiturists, guardsmen, viceroys and regals,Duchys, empire loyalists and common wealth extractors, Paisleyites, shites and shawls, dressers, hairdressers, toothpaste attendants, bishops, barbers, confectioners, cameroons, philatelists, royalists, speech impeders, polo ponies and them horrible feckin dogs…..
Christy thanks very much for the shout last night, really appreciate it. Really great nights craic. Hurt was brilliant as was magdalene laundries. You didnt do too badly with the pronunciation of Slaughtneil either…
Great gig Christy. We got a lot of holes dug last night which is the main thing. Cant wait until you get up to Derry again. Perhaps youl come up when we win the county final in October? Maybe Newbuildings have you booked up that night for their county final?
Funny stuff about pronouncing “Slaughtneil”. Still unclear as to how to say it. Hope you didn’t get into too much trouble.
Okay, here’s the sorry details only ’cause you asked and really, I’ve been using a lot of word-restraint in my posts, up until now.
My drive across country is closer to 2300 miles. LA to Chicago, or more likely, the North woods of Wisconsin, Big Stone Lake. The trip is always the same and always different. Kind of a meditation. (I deleted much because I don’t want to subject your fans to i).
My car is a silver 2008 Prius, with an unbelievable amount of miles already. I will be considered a communist muslim socialist anarchist atheist for driving through Nebraska in this.
Simone (Angel) is a white husky mix. When I first got her she was simply named “Angel” but she did not live up to that moniker. Now she does. She’s a rescue, and maybe that’s what she considers me. She’s a natural singer, like a wolf. She quite enjoys it. You know, wolves sing for many reasons, one being for the pure enjoyment of it. I swear when I play Hound Dog on guitar, she harmonizes with me….
So, on our journey, we’ll be listening to a variety of CDs. Celtic music does the job to drop me into or take me away from the landscape, depending on where I am. Christy Moore will breeze me through the desolate brown Nebraskan pool table, land of GMO corn, and hold me till I finally and hopefully return to Ireland, and experience the living voice of YER own self….if you have any concerts in September/October? I’m waiting to book the wings.
Christy's reply
Thanks for the chat, how long does it take?…Im happy to cross Nebraska with you and Simone….
Great gig tonight
Great set
Was 3 rows from front with my wife,
The last time I seen you play was in enniskillen 1997
Loved tonight. Great gig
Was chatting to your road manager tonight
He let me take pic of your takamine at the end of the night
Great guitar. Great sound. Great set. !!
Thanks christy and Decky
Christy's reply
that guitar is on the wall here now and theres not a sound out of it…glad ye had a good night…Myself and Declan enjoyed both nights….he was hitting lots of good notes and I remembered all my words..great City for gigs…Derry Abú
Thanks yet again Christy for another couple of wonderful nights. Great to hear the audiences listening to the songs. Personal highlights for me tonight were Hurt and Metropolitan Avenue – two gems but the whole set was up there. Declan is playing some great stuff altogether these days – can’t wait for “It’s the noise it makes”. Thanks for the handshake and hope to see you all again soon.
Its not far away from Bellaghy only Slaughtneil is a bit more rural and have a better football team. I think they would even give the lily whites a run for their money…
Sure give Slaughtneil a rattle and if Slurred Kneel comes out instead itl be a bita good old craic anyway.
Hi. Fair play John thanks for the reports ..good songs, good listeners another gig to look forward to,,, and Hurling too,,, a happy camper I’d say !! Damp and dirty in the Kingdom…….Oh I wish I was,,, enjoy tonight,,,, such a great city and room. Shine On All. H
Yet another brilliant show last night Christy – i thought it was a great “listening” audience – very respectful. Thought you really nailed Beeswing and the Magdalene laundries, and fair play to the Quinta Brigada guy who didn’t forget his ma !! Where was Cal though??? Hope he didn’t stop in Newbuildings to ask when the County Final was on. I would pronounce it as SLOCK KNEEL – might be a good idea to give them a shout out – big hurling area and they might have the hurls with them.
The town land of Slaughtneil is pronounced phonetically as (s-lought-neil)
Thanks Christy would really appreciate the shout out.
Hope you and Decky had a good gig last night… Very much looking forward to tonight.
Also was listening to your version of hurt by Johnny Cash not so long ago. Easily the best cover there is.
Cheers again Christy

Jasus Antoine you’re playing your cards very close to your chest…South Derry is a tight wee spot and some fella from the Bogs of Sweet Kildare could get himself a right sleggin by mis-pronouncing such a spot as Slughtneil….I mean I could call out Slout, or Sloft or Slowt, Slu or Slocked depending on which phonetic bletherd tonight ..I could pronounce all of them and still get a kick in the arse..maybe I’ll risk Sluffed Kneel or maybe Slat Neall…I have tried to ring Scullion (The Blurt) for local pronounciation guidelines but he is still in the nest……
My mother just turned 93. Driving with my dog across the country to spend August with her. What old folks value is the time you can give, since for them, time is a diminishing thing…well that’s true for all of us, but they’re more acutely aware of it. Anyway the recent comments here made me think of John Prine’s song Hello In There, which he’s called the song he likes most of all he ever wrote (Angel From Montgomery is also a beauty). I think you’d do an amazing version of either, Christy. Here’s a sweet vid: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FJ85Hep0kD0
Christy's reply
Hey Wolf, Thanks for sending us a bit of John Prine..its always such a pleasure to listen to him sing..I have loved this song since I first heard it..tried it out and learned it some years back but felt I was not doing it justice so it never got done live…maybe its time to try again…you are gonna drive across the country to visit your mother..which country? driving across Ireland is 130 miles (we’re 370 miles long) in the States its 3,000 miles…I need to know what sort of journey Im visualising here ,, what is your dogs name, what sort of car you gonna drive…expand on it Wolf, its a quiet morning here in The City Inn, Derry….which is more then I can say for last night..there was a bass player 7 stories down in the basement and his laboured notes had the whole building shaking until he clocked off at 1 am. I realise now that I’m sounding like the man in John’s song…
Christy … Cheeky request but if you don’t ask… My dear father in law Jim Whelan, a Laois man, passed away this week at the grand old age of 93 … Funeral is on 19th June so just enough time to get you over to Luton to sing a few songs (feckin English taking 3 weeks is ridiculous). Anyway we need you at Con O’Sheas in Luton (an Opportunity Knocks Winner from the 70’s) at 14:00 on 19th June .. Bring Dermot if available. This would mean the world to Jims family – contact me at Derek.risk@ntlworld.com or 0044 7766 366366 to confirm – I will buy you a beer and sincerely this would be such a marvellous send off for Jim . We saw you at London Royal Festival Hall recentltly and had a marvellous night – I know you didn’t enjoy the venue but you will love o’sheas and they will love you. All the best ..Derek
Christy's reply
You’re quite right Deke, if you’re not in you cant win…Weddings and Funerals, barmitzvahs and shindigs, confirmations and first communions….my dearly beloved mother would be 93 now if she had’nt passed 20 years ago…she was my source of inspiration, my song guide, my beloved critic…..she advised me in 1963 ” Christopher Son” said Neans De Paor, “Never try and sing for people when they are eating”…. I pray that Jim is resting in peace, let us not disturb the good man’s sleep……ps..Dermot can’t be there either
Christy how is the form with you? Hope you are well. Iv been to see you 7 or 8 times now over the past few years, fantastic stuff, really fantastic. Was at the gig on the 4th of May past up at the Millenium forum in Derry and I am lucky enough to catch another ticket for tomorrow night (Sat 2nd June). I was wondering if you could squeeze the Magdalene Laundries into your set if you had time and give a shout out to the lads from Slaughtneil. Also, ask Decky would he mind belting out Corina Corina as well…. Have a good weekend.
Cheers Christy

Antoin…how do you pronounce the name your townland…such details can be of great importance especially when badly mispronounced
Christy, i send you greetings from The Land of St. Connell, we look forward to your visit on the 15th and 16th of June, no doubt you will lift many hearts while you’re here!
Christy, i have created an evening i call “Raking the Ashes,” it’s an evening of honouring the age old tradition of hospitality, there’s bread, scones, stories and songs, guests join me at my table and share their gifts with the visitors, my guests have included Tommy Sands, Margo, Peter and Jimmy Campbell, Danny Meehan, Bernard Kelly, Fil Campbell,Texas Ollie and Tina Rock. Christy, when i was growing up “Raking” (visiting), was still practiced, evenings around the fire of a “Raking House” with stories, songs, music and a bit of home baking, sure there was nothing like it! That’s the kind of evening i try to create, Christy, i would love to chat with you about the possibility of you joining me as my guest for an evening of “Raking the Ashes”at The Highlands while you are in Donegal, you have my email address now so you can contact me via that. I have a page on facebook called SillyBuck Stories, you can check that if you like. Christy, i will love you and leave you for now, i hope this finds you alive, well and kicking! I look forward to hearing from you.
Sincerely,
Breezy.
Christy's reply
fair play to you Breezy…sounds like the old home place…we still Rake The Ashes back down in the Boglands of Kildare…the land of St Conleth and Naomh Bríd….only last week we had a right night of it…the piper fell into the fire and singed his bag….the hens never got a wink and the pigs ran wild when the poitín mash fell into their stirabout….we had to send for the jubilee nurse when Mursheen Hanratty got stuck in the dresser….we raised 11 euro for the NO campaign and Declan Ganly gave an orationnon behalf of Dignitas
Well Christy, no better way to start the birthday celebrations than seeing you tonight in the forum. I remember a few gigs ago you playing Ruby Walsh which I rarely ever hear you playing. It would be great to hear it tonight. See you down the front.
Ride On…..
Christy's reply
Ruby is being rested temporarily, having not come under starters orders this past year we are considering his future.Standing at stud may be an option but perhaps one more gallop around Ballybrit in August before he takes up his siring duties.
Hi Christy, I hope you are well? First of all I just want to say how much I love your music. Myself, my brothers and sisters were brought up listening to your music every day. So thank you for sharing your stories with us.
I am currently living in australia and booking a flight home for Christmas this year. I’m wondering do you have any idea of dates you’ll be playing in Dublin in January? Id like to book my trip so that I’m home for your gig if possible.
I look forward to hearing back from you soon.
Aoife

we are in the process of finalising Dublin dates…will let you know as soon as possible..hope it works out
