I was over the Poisoned Glen and down through Dunlewey yesterday, there aren’t many better views in the country with Errigal looking fantastic in the sunshine , hope it stays fine for your stay in the hills. Looking forward to the gigs now.

up here now in this beautiful place… the wind is howling down the mountain, the rain lashing across the glen…Declan and I have just played a bunch of songs here in the digs to get ourselves warmed up for our first Dun Lewey gig…always a great buzz to be coming to a new area…Declan feels he may have played up here with Horslips in the early days of that band, its certainly my first time to gig here…I have played Glenties and Letterkenny and once at “The Mary” back in the late 80s -early 90s time…Daniel joined me on stage and we bade farewell to “The Rosses and Gweedore”
How are you Christy? I’m doing the leaving at the moment and the only thing getting me through it is the thought of attending your concert in the marquee! One little request bud, Back Home In Derry 🙂

if you go to the sister site at 4711ers.org you may connect with people there who might be prepared to share some stuff with you..but be warned ,they dont tolerate messers…I ave been castigated myself once or twice for actin the bollo
I have just seen an article on Irishcentral.com where they refer to you as a” Wicklow man”. If they said you were a “Wickle man” i may have forgiven them, but they couldn’t even get the pronunciation right, let alone the facts.
By the way, I totally agree with you about all this Eucharistic congress baloney. Everyone to their own, but it makes my skin crawl.

I will write about how I became drawn into all this eucharistic brouhaha in my next chat. It causes me no grief whatsoever to be called a Wicklow man….there are Kildare,Meath,Westmeath,Waterford and Wicklow antecedents in our family tree and thats only going back two generations…I suspect that some of the Westmeath branch may have come from Leitrim. I grew up less then 15 miles from the Wicklow border and drank a few bottles of stout with the late Harry Fay.
It appears the last line about twitterfacebook yadayadayada has been removed? Thanks for that, and so now the poem appears as Seamus originally intended. Love all the comments on song writing, Neil Young, upstream, downstream, Bob Dylan (Joni Mitchell’s not too crazy about him by the way), Crazy Horse…and sorry about football results. Tis a rocky road indeed. Here’s early Neil Young, Sugar Mountain. Think you’d do a sweet version of it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vGI5wGp2tXA
Hello Christy I am looking forward to coming over to see you in Gweedore on the 16th June
with my son and daughter. We arrive on the ferry from Holyhead at 11 o clock so should be in good time to get to Donegal. See you then God bless Christy.
My husband and I are planning to return to Ireland next year (having to make plans early since it’s difficult to make travel plans from here, at times)! We are wondering if you have any confirmed show dates from May to August for 2013 that you could share with us! During our last visit we missed you by one day and we want to make sure that don’t happen again!
Any help or insight you can share would be greatly appreciated!
Neil Young with Crazy Horse is great , one of the few bands I can listen to jam on without getting bored , they have just released a new record ” Americana ” all cover songs as diverse as This Land Is Your Land to The Sex Pistols God Save The Queen , with another record all done for release later this year … also going on tour in the US , not sure about europe but well well worth it if the oppertunity comes up .
gas craic listening to I think it was 2fm yesterday. One DJ asked the other did they have the live version (I assume he meant live at the point) of Joxer, they said no and played the original non-censored version! They had to stop it half way through and apologise profusely 🙂
So sorry about that last line which obviously came from neither the pen nor mind of Seamus Haney..! Wow…insidious way to ruin a brilliant poem. Beware the advertisers!

It helped the flow
Honoring the illumination of song process by another one of Ireland’s own:
Song by Seamus Heaney
A rowan like a lipsticked girl.
Between the by-road and the main road
Alder trees at a wet and dripping distance
Stand off among the rushes.
There are the mud-flowers of dialect
And the immortelles of perfect pitch
And that moment when the bird sings very close
To the music of what happens.
Its horses for courses, strokes for folks, Up Down and whatever you’re having yourself
