Hey Christy,
My name’s Chloe and I’m 15 years old. My Dad is turning 60 this year and as part of his birthday present, I’m making him a video collage of all of his friends and family wishing him a happy birthday. It would the world to him to see that you, his idol (seriously, he’s always rocking out on his guitar to your songs), could wish him a happy birthday. His name is Jim, by the way. If you could just write a short message wishing him all the best, I’d be so grateful. My Dad does so much for me and I just want to give him something back for all the hard work he does. Please just write a message and I’ll add it to his birthday video collage as a slide. Thank you so much!
You rocked the marquee last Saturday night! Was watching a video of you singing Avondale in 1969 Jays boy you dident change a bit!!!

Kacks jacks and then there’s also keks, which I’ve heard Christy saying he needs to give a rest sometimes . I’ll need an Irish slang pocket dictionary when I visit.
Agnes, wolves make all sorts of sound s such as yelping growling and howling which I’ve also been known to do, and of course they’re wonderful singers Tney sing for many reasons but often just for the enjoyment of it.
Christy's reply
St Patrick drove the wolves out with the snakes in 411 but the feckers have been re-appearing the past 50 years….The Wolves circle their prey with plenty of assistance from the sidelines. They hypnotise their innocent victims with promises of mammon in nirvana before pouncing and tearing them asunder. The snakes slither around places like Drumcondra, Castlebar and North Tipperary swallowing whole persons at a time before slinking away into the long grass to digest their largesse and wait for another day

What are “kacks”? Then I will know whether or not I have them, and if they are relaxed or tense.
Christy's reply
my grandfather served in the British Army….he often told me to “relax the kacks”I think it may be a reference to Khaki… as a young boy I often became quite excited, sometimes overtly….it could be ice cream, comics, films, football, chips, radio luxembourg, a red bicycle, the girl next door, priests, nuns, brothers, sausages, gobstoppers,Lester Pigott,Boiler White, Ba Dowling,….any number of things could set me off…my dear grandfather would lay his hand upon my shoulder, gaze into my eyes and say ” Relax The Kacks” I would settle down, somehow, reassured that everything would be alright
Heya CM, Been listening to the Red disc a lot from box set. “The Grey Lake Of Loughrea” sounds like a song perhaps from early 1900’s? Tell us something about it. Also it goes well paired with “Someone To Love Me” that follows it. Have you ever gigged either in recent years??? Thinking of bringing “Musha” out yet?? So many songs, so little time….
Christy's reply
I have never gigged the “Grey Lake” but I have been singing it at home lately….I think I may have gigged “Someone” a few times in the 90s but could never get a handle on it in the live arena….sung to the sky ,in the dark of night, thats when it is at its best…..I know nothing about “Grey Lake” except that I learned it from Tony Small of Galway…he sang it to me late one night in Finsbury Park around 1970…I took ‘Musha ” down and played it at home for a few weeks back… I could not do it justice so it has been put away again…hope all is well with you in the mountains of Colorado

Hope you have the wellies on today! By all accounts the gig in the Marquee was pretty good. I wasn’t at it myself, I kind of prefer the more smaller venues to get all close and cosy! The girlfriend thought you were on right form and really enjoyed the banter. Looking forward to the gig in the Button Factory on the 16th, maybe you will give ‘Least We Can Do’ a run out…it’s a lovely tune, I might give you a gentle reminder at the gig. I’d have to agree with Hillary, every gig is different whether it’s a one night solo gig or 3-4 gigs in a row. I’ve been to 2-3 gigs in a row…the audience and the vibe can be totally different even though the gigs are only few hours apart.
It’s great to see yourself and Declan jump off the tandem and have the solo gigs next year, just make sure the dates don’t clash! It will be great to see how both of you will get on, it will be a great adventure and I’m just glad we can all go and enjoy the journey with both of you. Great to see The Forum is booked for October, I was going to bring the Blaa to The Button Factory but since the Forum is on, I’ll wait till then….they don’t travel to well! Keep up with the Chats, they are really enjoyed. See you at the Button, James
