It was a very special gig for me at the Button Factory. The last time I saw Liam O’Flynn playing his pipe was at the Coirm Cheoil Concert in 1999 at the Spa Wells in Lisdoonvarna. I often hoped for an opportunity to see him again, so of course I couldn’t miss the chance to see you both together. A very special and focused time during the gig, listening and gazing, anxious not to miss one note, and now the sounds will buzz around my head for a long time. What me absolutely impressed was the consonance between Laoise at the harp and yourself playing guitar and singing. To my mind it’s a very powerful sound, a sound which emphasizes the tenor of the songs. Thank you and the other musicians for this great concert.
Christy's reply
Thank You Ruth…I too enjoyed the music enormously…I chose Liam and Laoise simply because I wanted to hear them play..getting to play with them was an added treat for me…it also leaves me wanting to hear some more
A great summer for ducks!
Managed to catch Luka in Ballymaloe last Friday. He was on great form and after one song, unplugged from the sound system (there went the sound test) and plugged into the small PA, jumped off the stage and sang from the floor. It was a great evening and support was played by a girl called Rose Cousins, a Canadian singer with a great voice. So the point is, maybe when you’re flying solo next year or maybe for a gathering, I think you should try and include The Grainstore in Ballymaloe. It’s a really small and intimate venue and gives out a great vibe for a small gig. And you’ll get a decent feed from Darina if you play your cards right!
That interview with Dolores a real eye opener. Best wishes to her!

Hi all, there is a wonderful concert of Planxty from June 1973 on the RTE real player at the moment. It was great to hear a new Planxty song, “When first unto this country” after 39 years, . and a version of “Hey Sandy” later to appear on CM “Live in Dublin”….If Hillary sees this can you send a text or phone me at 086 8168536. I may have something of interest for everybody…RyanL
Christy's reply
fair play to you Ryan….its only 40 years since, gone past in a wink, I give thanks to be still able to sing a few songs
We were completely awestruck by last nights show in the button factory…….so lucky to have been there to see and hear you play and sing with these amazing people. Such a feast of music and song. It was our first time in there and it is a special place. If the next two monday nights are even half as good as last night then the crowd are in for some treat.
Ola Signor Moore. I have am over here, over exposed and subsequently over browned! It’s not good. I saw a photo of you at the Button Factory courtesy of my zen brother Adam, and dare I ask is that an IPad in your hand?? Have you embraced the Apple behemoth? Can I confess that I have one and if I am singing a new song at the session I take it with me. Don’t forget the Factor 50. 🙂 Xx

Hi Christy hows the form?? Great to see the vicar street gigs announced for December and January, am just wondering though will you be adding any grand canal dates on there as you have in the past couple of years? Keep up all the good work:-)
Christy's reply
we are still thinking about the grand canal, hari nama, natural gas theatre…latest is that its going to have another name change…hopefully we will play it early 2013 if we are spared and if its available…the form is great Smartyn…come in number 9
A gorgeous Richard Thompson song, Bonnie Raitt singing it with Richard harmonizing…how much better can it get? Christy Moore singing it? Would love to
hear it. Have you sung this? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1o8M74ufF4Q&feature=related
Christy's reply
Have always liked this song but could not sing it…..
Hi Christy. I hope you’re well. Thank you for your reply before. I understand now that it can be a bit embarassing if someone, i.e. that comedian/MC, who’s introducing you and Declan talks a load of crap in the intro..
Do you know the song ‘Meadowlarks’ by the American band Fleet Foxes? It’s from their debut album, also named ‘Fleet Foxes’. The reason I ask you this, Christy, is because I think it’s a really beautiful song and, not to infer that I should be in any position to tell you what to do now, but I thought you might like it and could even do a wonderful cover of it if you ever wanted to.
Hi Christy, hope all is good with you and that your enjoying the summer of sport – minus the summer that is. Mixed fortunes for our respective counties this weekend, the men from Tir Conail march on (doing just enough to see off the Tyrone Boys) while your beloved Lilly Whites bow out to a very impressive looking Meath team. Spain and Italy coming up later this evening as well on the box, has the potential to be a real classic methinks !! Great to see the extra gigs added this week, fair play to you – you have some energy sir ! Hope the Button Factory shows go well, will be in the Capital for a few days and gonna catch the final show on the 16th….looking forwad to that one. Thanks John for posting the Dolores Keane link. Cya Soon. Love & Respect Martin Mac

well done your team altho I found it hard going to watch it….reminded of primary school games when two entire teams would move up and down the field with the ball somewhere in the middle of the herd…Meath outclassed Kildare in the middle of the park, Wexford gave the Dubs a good run for their money….looking forward to hearing Liam O’Flynn and Laoise Kelly tonight at the Button factory, two of my favourite musicians…they are going to play together for the first time and I will get to play with them too..what better way to start the week
Hi Christy that’s me off the drink 5 weeks sober seen springsteen @sunderland,and will be @ barras in November looking forward to it as i have been warned off the drink by the liver specialist,
Christy's reply
well done Mick Malone…hope you are having a good day…5 weeks is a great achievement…
Well Christy,
Just wondering if you have any plans for an extended tour of these parts, I’m certain there’s enough of a crowd on these shores to guarantee a few packed houses…..
I saw Andy Irvine over here in a small venue in Melbourne a year or 2 ago, and listening to Black-Smithereens a few hours ago reminded me of that night in the Clare Castle, so I thought I’d ask the question. Sure, I’ll keep an eye on the “Gig Guide” and you’d never know what’d turn up!

Andy is truly a wandering troubadour…I am in awe of his ongoing itinerary….I tend to do most of my travelling around this Island…I last did global meandering in 1997…dont have the head nor heart for it anymore altho I do cherish the memories of great gigs in far distant lands…whilst Andy spreads the songs and carries the tunes I try to keep the home fires burning!
Also appreciated the Dolores K interview, enlightening. And Christy, I had no idea about the botox and hair plugs. I had always assumed you were just a natural beauty. 😉 Now regarding St Pat and the snakes and wolves, well snakes keep away the rodents, and the only wolves that threaten people are the ones that wear the cloth of the good sheep. You’ll find them prowling the halls of congresses and congregations.
Christy's reply
spoken like a true wolf….what beautiful creatures they are ( as long as you have’nt got a sore leg and become separated from the herd )
Hi christy. Just finished watching a DVD of yours “uncovered”. Got it for Xmas but the kids keep us busy so getting to see it 6 months later. Have to say I totally enjoyed it and it reminds me of the many times I’ve seen you in concert. Actually started to take guitar lessons last year and am using some of your songs as inspiration. It’s great though because many years ago the good old Christian brothers told me I didn’t have a note in my body! My singing teacher who I went to as a 50th birthday present didn’t agree with them. Great to realise I had talents I didn’t believe I had or more to the point had been told I didn’t have. Thanks for many hours of entertainment and though provoking music. Meet you in Cappoquin in 2011 I was the one that reminded you about crofts in lemytrian in 1984!

Christy's reply
well done Martin..delighted to read that you are playing and singing…many were thwarted in childhood by heartless teachers who had no sense of art nor culture within their barren hearts…in my experience they were in a minority..I met some great men and women in my early days who encouraged me to sing out…in particular Father Henry Flanagan, a Dominican Priest, who gave hundreds of us an appreciation of music, painting, sculpture, opera and encouraged me to sing out into the darkness of the night….I loved the Cappoquin gigs..its a lovely part of the country….Crotty’s of Lemybrien has its place in my memory too altho your spelling had me puzzled for a while !!! my memory of that gig is that I was on the flagons at the time
Don’t know if you heard the wonderful moving interview with Dolores Keane on Marian Finucane’s show this morning. God Bless her in her battle with her demons – such a powerful voice and hope she finds the way back.
Dear Christy,
I am writing to you to tell you about of a very dear and special friend of mine, who in June 2011 has written and composed a beautiful song, only inspired by your voice which was in his mind after a most impressive visit to IEPER in Belgium.
His name is Ton and we have been friends our complete lifetime. We were both born in the same street more than 58 years ago. And up to this day and age we still play music together. More than that is the fact that Ton indeed is a pure singer songwriter if you ever came across one. This is not his occupation, as he is an illustrator. I do estimate however that he has written hundreds of beautiful and meaningful songs in his lifetime. I am personal fan of his work because I think his lyrics are close to poetry and tell a most picturesque story. Not to say the least the about the beautiful most appropriate melody lines that accompany the words. Also regular visits to Ireland have inspired him to write some vivid Irish related songs.
But actually what I wanted to inform you about is just one special song called “The Morning Wind”, which Ton has written in June 2011. Ton was inspired to write this after his visit to Ieper in Belgium, the place where in July 1917 The Third Battle of Ieper took place to bring a final blow to the Germans. The fact is that Ton wrote this song with your voice in his mind Christy! The song describes the journey and hardship of the soldiers of the Royal Irish Regiment, leaving Dublin Bay in May 1917 to man the trenches, which were dug in the fields of Flanders.
Ton has recorded and beautifully mixed the song himself in his own home. He has played all the instruments himself as well as singing all the voices. I do believe you should hear it. Where will I be able to send this recording?
Looking forward to receive your most appreciated reaction, I remain with warm regards from Holland!
