thats a grand day Tolstoy….The Hub is some gaff, fair play to those who had the foresight and courage to build a venue beside a cattle mart, tell the truth I din not think it would work but they have proved me wrong..there was a great atmosphere there on Fri Night…it still amazes me when I look out there upon the sea of faces all gathered to hear Declan and I play these songs…..Michael Hayes still catches me every time, I first came across it 37 years ago…a great old ballad still as vital today as when it was written
well there’s a list and a half. My parents used to rent a flat from Ryans there beside Sheens the coblers in Henry street. In fact that is where I was born. After that, your Mother got us a house in Highfield estate. She was a great woman. All the relations sing or play in one form or other some of them still do. Rubber Keogh would be a cousin of mine and my uncle George Conlon used to drive for Irish ropes back in the day. I think he used to give you a lift back in the time when it was safe to hitch, I usually have a pint in the railway bar with the cousins when I visit. Thanks for listening to the song Christy. If you are playing nearby any time soon sure Ill drop in for the craic….By the way Bobby Moran was My Fathers best friend. I think you knew Bobby’s Father…..He used to write a lot of poetry….

it was a pleasure to sing that song…2nd time in a year.only comes out on special occasions
Hi Christy, I remember in the late 60s, as a kid, walking home from evening mass with my parents and stopping on the way home at Joe Rourke’s pub in Newbridge where there was a man with one leg, playing an organ in the back room. The microphone would start at the top of the pub and be passed around until everyone sang a song. My Father would always encourage us to sing a song and loved to sing himself. He was an army man, strict but fair. In the latter part of his life when he retired from the army he began writing poems. I was amazed at how this otherwise tough individual could express himself so deeply and with such fragileness. I was flicking through some of his poems the other day and came across a poem he wrote about emigration. I put a few chords behind it and recorded it in my back room. It was such a good feeling to bring him to life again. He was a true and proud Newbridge man and is truly, truly missed. I put it up on Youtube for his frends and family to hear. You can hear it here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GIuZlsj5xJ0. Hope you enjoy….

Kia Ora Christy from Shakey Toon. While we probably won’t see you down here again your tunes bring light and cheer in trying times. Will be playing a few of the old ones tonight as a friend celebrates her new Kiwi citizenship. Look forward to hearing ‘Morecombe Bay’ – we have our own exploitation of workers on Korean (et al) fishing boats plundering the Deep South Seas. Take care of those vocals and ‘Ride On’. Warning: playing up a storm on the bodhran can bring on earthquakes….Mag 6,23 Dec ’11

Hi Christy,
Just wanted to say that you are truly amazing. I thought I had missed my opportunity to see you perform live in the late 90’s when it was reported that you were scaling back. I have now seen you and Declan 3 times, twice back home in Kilkenny and once here in Cardiff and luckily have tickets to see you here in April. Thank you so very much for the joy you bring to me and my family. My little lad (nearly 2) loves to dance to your Barrowland Show, he gets very excited. Looking forward to bringing him to one of your gigs in the future. If you can, please sing ‘Pair of Brown Eyes’, my husband loves it very much and it would be the icing on the cake to what Iām sure will be an amazing Welsh gig.
See you soon, Lorraine

Morra Lorraine, what a lovely picture you give us of your 2 year old dancing to “Barrowland”….got home from The Marble City at 1 am this morning after a gig last night in The Hub…a truly great audience and a good night..I love playing in Kilkenny having spent 2 years there in the 70s. I also went there for 2 Summer Camps with the FCA in 1961 and 62. Last night was slightly marred when I reacted badly to an extremely loud and excited man who was oblivious to the fact that he was dominating the whole affair…I did not handle it the best….see you adover in Cardiff, maybe get a look at The Criple Crown
