Was always interested but never thought of asking until now Christy, what’s your opinion of The Corries as a folk pairing? I’ve heard many a scotsman sneer at them but I thought the blend of voices was sublime and the death of Roy Williamson a real loss to music in both the performance and writing arenas. Can’t wait for your gig in Glasgow later this year, I’ll be the loon shouting for “Lawless” at some point from near the front in the Concert Hall!
I’m heading to the lovely town of Dungloe this Saturday and going to see the Pat McManus band in the newly reopened Ostan Na Rossan Hotel on Saturday night. I’ stayed there a few years ago and thought it was a great hotel, lovely to see it back on its feet after being closed for over two years. Wouldn’t mind seeing yourself and Declan there to be honest, its a lovely spot looking out on to Dungloe Bay.
Welcome back Christopher, ole chum! Hope you enjoyed your break. Looking forward to catching you at the Picnic. Hope the rain says off…..nothing worse than soggy sandwiches! (oo’er Matron!)
Many thanks for many wonderful memories you have given me. You played at the Boys of Ballisodare festival when I was allowed to get in as a youngster in its hey day for Chuck Berry, then I saw you when I was in London as an emigrant (in the Grande if I recall rightly) and once again near enough home in Drumshanbo. I am planning to see you again at the Electric Picnic.
It is true that you appreciate things when you have had emigrant eyes. Your songs touch that sense in many ways. I wanted to touch base with you as since I have been home there are many changes and sadly more threats to this beautiful area of the North West, which I come from which will have large reverberations for Ireland and our diaspora away from home. That which I refer to is of the proposed threat of licences for hydraulic Fracturing, has been linked through peer reviewed research and first hand testimony, to multiple incidences of water and air pollution, animal and human ill health. earthquakes in Britain, and industrialisation with large scale areas been decimated by drill pads every 2 kms. It also has the potential to wreck what is our green image that we rely on for our sustainable industries of tourism and farming.
You are admirably involved in many causes that touch at the hearts of communities. This industry if it were to be allowed to get a foothold could damage alot of what we hold dear imo. I am currently involved a community group which is trying to raise awareness on this issue. Some issues have the potential to impact so badly on communities and threaten how we see ourselves as a country, and warrant people speaking out on a national level. I humbly ask is there a way that you could assist us in raising the profile of this.
I suppose I want my young children to be able to stay in the place where my family come from and have the opportunity to look back at similar times and memories like the Boys of Ballisadare times fondly. I hope that the government will do right by its people locally and nationally, but am aware that this will sometimes involve reminding them and each other about the important things about what makes us Irish. : )
Thankyou in advance for anything you can do and await your response with much hope. I attach below some links including research on the issue.

Absolutely addicted to your music.Relatives on my mothers side are from

Dear Christy Moore aged 67
We havent been in touch since the big tent.I want to tell you It was so class and thank you ,we had the best time ever .
The whole thing was the most insane thing we ever saw. .
Colm and dad got a place at the back to keep colm safe.Because there was some real mental people floating around and they would stand on him and squish him like a bug.
Me and Mom made our way into the crowd and we were just one person from the stage!!! I was jumping up and down like mad so I could see you.
It was like every lunatic in the country was thrown into one big tent. And they all loved CM.
These two women were nice ..they let me stand in front of them because I was small …but then they started to fight with two drunk ladies.and then drunk ladies said I was a child and it was illegal for me to be there.
mom told them to get lost and some more unrepeatable words .They disappeared and probably went to annoy someone– somewhere else.
We lost Hilary at one stage she was right up at the front , how she stuck it …and didn’t get sqished Ill never know.
This woman kept following dad around because she thought he was someone famous…she said to him “are you someone famous” and he said “yes”.
Colm saw one woman trying to go into the bathroom and instead of opening the door she ran straight into it and THEN flat down on her stomache…
Even the people in wheel chairs were flying highspeed down a ramp into the security guard.
Colm was hoping they would run over one of the security guards because he took two bottles of water out of moms bag on the way in.
It was the best time ever ..anywhere.We had a ball and didn’t want it to end,.
We go back to school next week….Colm has been really tinn he might miss the first week .Hoping hes on the mend but he hasnt done much dancing lately.
Dadó Barna found a mink in the duck shed…he managed to get two ducks …but it was bye bye mink.He came up the river from the pier.
Did you go the pass to dingle? Why did you buy yarn in the music shop?(you said in your chat) Was it to tie up magpies?
Christy's reply

Hi Christy… enjoyed your reply – Delighted me whole nuts found a good home, only the best for the boys…. LOL ! Just starting to calm down after that enthralling display at Croker…I have to say you had more faith than I had – Good Call. A wonderful display by a team who looked totally focused and who really believed in themselves. If you wanna be the best – you gotta beat best I suppose….only Dublin or Mayo stand between the men from Tir Connail and a second All-Ireland now….Bring it on !!! Hope the Picnic goes well next weekend and see you soon. Love & Respect Martin Mac
Petra and Uwe and others….a million thanks for your wonderful recounting of all the great music, bringing it home to those of us who could not be there. Really appreciate it.
hi christy just home from dingle what a gig on Friday night and to meet you after the gig was so amazing i must thank Hilary as she is a great person Also great to meet Martin and Adam hope to get a gig in very soon take care Tony
Dear Christy,
Lots of rain in West Cork and Kerry lately, but who cares ? The music prevailed – we are home again and still buzzing from all the beautiful notes we heard in the last 12 days. Our first Masters of Tradition left us in awe and wonder – the sheer beauty of sound and atmosphere was amazing – Martin Hayes is a genius, a true master himself and the choice of his guests was flawless. The Swedish band Väsen is a gem and deserves further attention for sure. Can’t believe that they have been doing their amazing music since the 1980s – really ashamed we haven’t heard of them before. The new ‘super band’ The Teetotallers is brilliant – John Doyle is a great guitar player and singer/songwriter. To hear Liam O’Flynn live for the first time was worth the long journey alone … And all the beautiful harp sounds, flutes, guitars and Sean-nós singers, the lovely Andalusian singer and so many more – the 5 days in Bantry were pure bliss.
De Barra’s in Clonakilty was next, with a gig of Gavin Moore and guests – interesting to hear the young band SIVE, unconventional sound and instrumentation. A trad session in Dingle followed, and finally your passionate concert at the Hillgrove Hotel. Go raibh maith agat to you and Decky for the great evening – we enjoyed it so much ! Always wanted to hear St. Brendan’s Voyage live, but never had a chance, and it was good to wait: of course, Dingle is the perfect location for that premiere … The Dingle audience was a class of its own – bold and funny, wonderful harmony singers and great vibes – what a welcome to the “wild west” of Ireland. We enjoyed every minute of our time in Cork and Kerry, and the beauty of the music will linger on in our ears and hearts for a good while.
Lots of love from Petra + Uwe

some great memories from those days of music…The Bantry Masters is very special..long may they continue to stage this unique Festival
“Astronaut Neil Young, first man to walk on moon, dies at age 82,” read the NBC News headline shortly after 3 pm EST on Saturday, a headline which was then tweeted out and picked up by thousands of others before, much later, the mistake was noticed and changed. Neil Young lives! Bring on the harvest moon! Declan’s cd is flying over the sea toward my door, and your music echoes through these rooms here, Christy. Be well!
Christy's reply
he sure has gained lift-off more often then any astronaut…when he mounts that old Crazy Horse we neve know where we are gonna end up
Hi Christy.

Your a fantasic musican and great person thank you.
Dear Christy,
I love your music and your voice is stunning. My late father was a huge fan also, he introduced me to your work. He was a musician himself. I adore the tone of your voice and how you mean every word you sing. I am a performance graduate (M.A). I write songs and I wonder if I may send you a demo of a song I’ve written with your voice in mind? I think you are one of a Kind. Thank you for the amazing music!
Kind regards,
Grace.
Christy's reply
if you go to the sister site 4711ers.org you can send the song (there is a link)…..thank you for your comments, you too are one of a kind
Christy, I really love your music and am inspired by your passion. Thank you so much for giving so much of yourself and for moving me to want to make the world a better place. You truly are an inspiration. I love to watch your live videos and wish one day to see you play. Your a beautiful soul and I love you! -Denise Schiller, Pomona California
Christy, many thanks for a wonderful night in the Hillgrove last night, there was a great vibe throughout even if you never did manage to sing Nancy Spain!! I was delighted to have my father with me on the night, a former school mate of yours from Newbridge, Feargal McAuliffe, his first trip back west was in 1959 also, he later settled here and Dunquin where I was brought up. He might drop a post here himself later on. A very different place now, although stout is still available in Krugers on occasion! Hope you return this way soon. Go néirí an bhóthar leat.
Christy's reply
a shame I did not meet Feargal…many memories when I read his name….altar boys, FCA (cpl), prefecture, Kilkenny Boot camp, Tadg Manlys trip to Ballyferriter and also the only fiddle player of the day ( apart from Pat Chawke of Limerick)…perhaps we can hook up at a future date
Dingle’s beauty shakes my soul. Years ago I was walking around the area. I had been to visit my aunt who was vacationing from the states. She and her friend stayed inside their wee cottage everyday playing cards! I went out for a walk and strolled through the port. It was a glorious day. Autumn, the sun shining brilliantly . Everything in technicolor and I was ripe for adventure. I started to hitch hike as I headed down the road (yes unwise and yes I was naive) and a young man from a very wealthy Dublin family picked me up. He was driving a convertible Rolls Royce! He said he always drove the Dingle peninsula “for therapy”, as he put it. He knew the rich history of the area, every inch of it. He even had a copy of The Islandman, signed by the author, which he gifted me. Took me to lunch in an outdoor fancy restaurant which I could never have afforded myself (why I was hitch hiking). Hecwas kind and seemed to love being my personal tour guide. It was a magical day and I always wonder what happened to him. I hope he made it. There was a kind of sadness about him and he seemed to be trying to break through to the light. We never exchanged names or addresses. It was like one of those sand paintings that the waves wash away but the image is clear and alive in remembering. Still intent on getting to see you once again in concert this autumn. Shine on.
