Jaysus Christy, us 4711ers are like caged animals that haven’t been fed for a fortnight !!
Only a lucky few managed to catch the gig in the far SouthWest last friday .
Think you said once or twice that your repetoire of songs runs to a few hundred or thereabouts ….so it sounds like a weekend of gigs is the only the answer.
Roll on the year of the Gathering….we might even bring Sam along for the spin .
Looking forward to a gig somewhere soon…Enjoy the Picnic
Christy, Given the success of the 4711 name (definitely not average though), and given that Declan will be having a few solo gigs, do you have any idea what we should call ourselves at Declan gigs??
There is no such thing as an AVERAGE 4711er. We are a mixed bag of hoodlums, friends, strangers, & just Mad CM fans, who gather from all parts. The strength of our staying power has yet to be tested to its limit. The’Rose’ has yet to find us in an early house!!! Maybe she could come to Lisdoon for a long gathering ?
I’ve been known to be able to handle 4 hour gigs, so let’s have one of those.
Or, as Hilary said, a weekend of gigs …. when’s the next gaggle going to be?
Hi All…. Average….. Average,,, ?? the 4711ers don’t do average ,,, the minimum entry requirement is above average right through to excellent,,,, considering the Q for Barrowlands starts @ 5.30 ish… doors @ 7ish,,,, gig @ 8ish for well over 2 hours,,,, average wont do,,, at all at all….Not to mention the 9 hours in the Park for the London Fleadh,,,,, but that did include Bob !! So bring on the very long gig,,,, like a weekend gaggle aris b’fheidir ?? I think we handled that gig pretty well… Shine on for the EP. Beir bua & beannacht. H
The long gig is already lasting 50 years Christy, and I for one am handling it very well, and I would like to thank you for it….What you do is priceless….
Keep on keeping on Christy…

Christy's reply
For those who dont know, TG4 is our Irish Language TV Channel. They do show a certain amount of programmes “as Béarla”. They continue to be the best channel herein Ireland, in this viewer’s opinion, if only for the weather forecast…
Come All You Dreamers, 2008 Barrowland concert on TG4 next Sat @ 22:05.
Christy's reply
Fair play and thanks to TG4 and BBC for transmitting our film.It has been very well received and we are delighted by the repeat transmissions We commissioned and paid for this film ourselves. Don Coutts and his crew did a wonderful job on the filming and editing. We are close to breaking even on the project and there is a great feelgood factor from the entire Barrowland Film experience. We feel it is a true picture of the work that Declan and I make. Always good to get your feedback.
hi christy hope you and the crew enjoyed the holidays was just wandering when ye will be giging in tipp or limerick again and if ye have a new cd coming out anytime soon

Clonmel, Oct 27th if all goes to plan…have a few different projects knockin about this old head but no idea when I will next record
Dear Christy,
Hope this finds you well. Time flies and we are back home. Leaving the island is always a sad thing but we are grateful for three lovely weeks even it was a bit wet sometimes. We also had a good few sunny days with pleasant walks on the beautiful Beara hills. And there was the music …
First we enjoyed a magic night with John Spillane in Bantry where in fact Orca appeared. To listen to the finest of music at the MoT was a treat too, good to hear Liam O’Flynn playing there again. The best of all at the end was the privilege to see you in Dingle. Thank you very much for a gorgeous and memorable night! Yourself and Declan played an amazing set, I loved to listen to Yellow Triangle and Farmer Michael Hayes very much. St Brendan’s Voyage, a song we haven’t heard for a long time, was appropriate to Dingle and the audience appreciated. Many special thanks for singing Lisdoonvarna and Bright Blue Rose for us.
Good luck for the Picnic, hope you’ll enjoy the blue moon.
Love, Traudel + Horst

Thank you for your support and all the good juju…..have a safe winter and keep your toes close to the fire
I found this on You Tube last night. It’s a 50min documentary about Christy Hennessy called Messenger Boy. Christy and Luka speak in it also. If anyone is looking for inspiration, this has to be where you should start! Even after being diagnosed with his illness he didn’t curl up or hide away from it, he just kept going. If they could have bottled his enthusiasm for life and music..it probably would be priceless. I couldn’t believe how humble, selfless and just what a nice man that Christy Hennessy was and I just wanted to share it with the fellow music lovers here.
Thanks for posting this James…he was a beautiful man who goodness still reverberates …………..”O I’ve ridden through the cold and the wind and the rain but Im in love and I do not feel the pain”
Hope this will lead some more music lovers to hear the fantastic Nic Jones…
Special thanks to Christy for letting us share our love of singers & songs on this wonderful site… Doug L & Wolfsoundz keep posting,,.I Love the words….RyanL

what a great and pleasant surpise to see Nic and his son perform together……I urge all songsters to go to Nic’s website and consider getting Penguin Eggs, one of the great albums of my lifetime
Dia dhuit dear Christy, Conás átá tú? “Is iomaí cor sa tsaol” it’s now 15 years ago that I fall in love with your voice and your songs, which seems to cast a spell on me when I was the first time in Dublin, moved from my home to work….since this time I’ve keep them in mo cúshla, one of my treasures…a multiple treasure because my mom also did, after I was playing your songs again and again….she also had to leaving her family long years ago, but not for work -for my father and me..and when she was dying, I had to promise her before to see you live playing, I had to swear that I will come back to Eireann and see you (a)live…and thank you from her, for your support her last month…and now I AM back, not in Dub but in Galway and I missed the chance to see you live finally (in Roisin Dobh) because of a company-event I had to must go……and now the year will go to the end and I missed THIS chance….Electric Picnic I would indeed love to, but it is honestly too much expensive for me and I am thinking about Sligo, but I am here with my animal fellow, my best friend, Lancelot the retired Greyhound which cares with me (and support me) when I taking care of my mom at home more than 1 year until she’d died from cancer….I’d promised her to see you and thank you live, but I will be unable to made it this year…unfortunately (heart is aching)..but maybe you will read this and take my Thankful whiches!
Nuair a bhíonn an fíon istigh, bíonn an ciall amuigh.Go dté tú an céad!

I’m pullin the divil be the tail…wish you well …sorry to read about the loss of your dear Mother…hopefully there will be a gig somewhere down the road where you can hear the old songs…these songs have gotten me through manys the lonesome time
Hi Christy,
I believe I read or heard you say you were a fan of the album Penguin Eggs by the great Nic Jones….His story is a tragedy of epic proportions of wrong doing and deceit and thats outside the horrendous accident…Recently I came across 2 cds of official bootlegs of Nic, Unearthed & In search of NJ (double CD). These were released as some of his work is so legally tied up for over 30 years that it probably will never see the light of day in our lifetime….I know that musicians and bootleggers have a fairly fractious relationship, but without these dudes & dudettes, many nights of magic would be lost in the ether…Thank You All… I started this post to let people know that Nic Jones is now doing some gigs with his son Joe…Sorry I can’t blue line this but if you google Nic Jones ten thousand miles 2011 you will hear something truly beautiful…..
Best health to all,
Ryan..
