Hi Christy. Just watched yourself and Declan on TG4 1/9/2012. Brilliant as always. You are a legend. Upsets me to think of the day you may not be singing for us. You could never be replaced. Looking forward to many more years to come.
Christy's reply
its all a continuum…the songs live on… Steve Cooney is now doing “The Well Below the Valley” 50 years after Tom Munnelly recorded John Reilly sing it in Boyle, the young singers learn from those who went before….the singers will eventually be forgotten but the songs will still be sung….no need to be upset, the job is oxo auld stock
Hi Christy, I just wanted to say thank you for such legandry music! Yourself and Declan are brillent all evening here on TG4! Devasted as a Navan-ite & uileann piper to be missing your concert there in Sept! Would give anything to be there! Enjoy the gig! I may get there yet with a bit of luck! Thank you for such wonderful music, you are both truly gifted!

Christy's reply
next time the “devastation” descends, strap on your bag and chanter and tear into THE BUCKS…that should do it…….keep up the music
Hi Christy, watching you on TG4 on 01.09.12 performing from Scotland and you’re just brilliant as ever, you fit the venue and situation, Genius. Mayo over Dublin tomorrow, we miss Sam! Christy keep it going!

Hi Christy, Hope all is Well. Glad you survived the Picnic – “6,000 young wans and two ageing twangers” (need to be careful how you say that)…. must have been a blast !! I hear there’s rumblings of a possible 4711er’s Gathering sometime in the New Year (Lisdoon was awesome a couple of years back) would love to do it all over again…………Dublin v Mayo, whats your call on that one?? Would like to see Mayo make it through but either or Donegal have a great chance…Good Buzz about the County at present…..Love & Respect Martin Mac
Christy's reply
skangers and langers is it…….Im looking forward to the colourful spectacle…I look forward to the red and green mingling with the sky blue…Carlow jersies are my favourites ,after the flour bags of course….expect an aura of hot dog and bud to be lingering about the hill today.. I hear that Temple Bar is comin down with sailors and leprachauns
Thanks Christy for that prompt reply,,,,, sounds electric ,,,, it would nearly have been worth the entrance fee alone,,,,, just to be there in that madness and mayhem,,,,, without anything else thrown in ! ! Keep on keeeping on. Mile buiochas. H
Christy's reply
the entrance fee is good value provided you can well afford it and then can stay for three full days to avail of every amenity. The promoters in Stradbally do not stint on their acts, production or presentation…nor do they seek to rip the bejasus out of their audience like certain other promoters whose policy would appear to be pack’em in and skin’em
Christy's reply
The Picnic went off …the blue moon got into the tent…there were reverberations….there was confusion…one man could not figure out whether we were Gavin Friday or Sigur Ros but he stayed anyway…the yellow shirt was anti frackin…our monitors were not great so we were wingin it a bit…we were accompanying you the listeners most of the time but ,feck it, ye were great singers and we had a grand time…hope Sat and Sun works out well for all and thanks to the Stradbally citizens for the lend of the field…Shine On
Christy's reply
I just realised that I can leave comments here myself!

we got a wonderful welcome…making our way across the site before hand there were sights and sounds of every hue beneath the magic moon..as we came towards the tent we heard the crowd singing and chanting as the time drew near…going up side stage the volume of the audience singing rose awesome…the Fields of Athenry beneath the August nightime sky upon the rich fields of Stradbally made me feel weak and poetic…out we went, myself and the Deckie and wondered what the fuck we were going to do…this was not The Spirit Tent, This was no Body and Soul Buzz…this was a full-on- Rockin-Ballad-elementary-giveitalash encounter between 6,000 young wans and two ageing twangers and both sides met full on and came together gloriously for an hour in mayhem, dismay, oblivion, confusion, harmony, anti-frackin,communal, choral, mind-me-chilblains,wheres-me-mot, theres Bono, ecstacy, agony, and then it was back to our dressing room tent to de-sweat have the supper into the van and away with us into the Laois night, over the border into the Shortgrass across the Curragh up the Dualer past Newlands and into Bertigrad …..quiet today, working on some new songs, lookin forward to all that comes….greetings to all our listeners,in particular our way above average 4711ers….up down
Well Christy,
You are playing in Navan 2 nights and I don’t have tickets.”Sold out” they are telling me. Well I’ll probably be working anyway so I won’t get to witness you for the 43rd time live just yet! Anyway if you are any way near Trim on Friday or Saturday and your looking for spuds, cabbage and bacon give me a shout, I’ll treat ya. Just look for the Rudger Melia, least I can do is buy you a spud to say thanks for the years of happiness and annoyence you’ve given me. Good luck now!
‘Fly me West’ is a lovely song Clare. What immediately strikes me is that it would have been a perfect song for Luke Kelly to sing but I’m sure Christy could do a great job on it too and he’d definitley enjoy the listen
Just wondered if you would please take 5 mins to listen to a song called ‘Fly Me West’. My dad who passed away this year wrote it and I’d love you to hear it as my dad was a big fan of yours.
Margo O’Donnell recently dedicated a recent radio broadcast to it – and she’s had quite a bit of success performing it recently.
I just wondered if there was any way you could listen to it as dad always thought you’d like it.
Hi Christy. I trust all is well. It’s a blue moon tonight. I keep irritating the kids by talking about recharging my crystals. The young ‘uns know nothing about the spirits. (I don’t mean tequila.) Have an electric electric picnic. xx
Christy's reply
Once, in a very blue moon…..I will sing to The Moon tonight..I will bay away until the song is through…dont bother irritating the youngsters, just recharge and keep it to yourself….they are sure to have their own secrets
We are longing for a very long gig, above the average. A weekend full of songs and music sounds tempting. It would be brilliant to have another gathering, hopefully it will come true.
Have a great picnic all!
Christy's reply
the response has been so positive that I will have to put on my thinking cap, thank you
Have a great picnic, let them have it..go over the curfew, let them pull the plug, do 3 & a half hours…enjoy it all, have a grand day Christy.
Christy's reply
like the sound of that Lar…the last time the plug was pulled was in RFH London in 1986..Jim Donohoe shone a bicycle lamp on the stage and I kept going like the clappers until we were all ready to go home…Ken Livingstone was there, it was a GLC anti-racist gig….
A very long gig ? As if a Christy concert could ever be long enough … A weekend of songs, more like … Whenever, wherever you’re up to it, Christy – Uwe and me will be there !!!
Christy's reply
I sang for 13 hours on Sat June 14th 1969…made it into that years The Guinness Book of records. It was at The Blythe Folk Club on Tyneside….I was monitored by the Lord Mayor and drug tested every 3 hours by the local traffic warden who dipped me for amphetamines…I consumed 2 gallons of Newcastle Brown Ale and an unsubstantiated quantity of Bushmills Whiskey. Hamish Imlach was my encourager ably assisted by Red Billy, Mad Pat, Big Owen, Wee Danny and Hairy Mick….I broke the world record which had been held by Nigel Denver, a great Scottish Singer. I broke his record by a few minutes. The following year some sham chanter tore the arse out the continuity by singing non stop for 3 weeks
Confirming Barrowlands on Sept 1st at 22:05. TG 4. Need to figure the time change. So I am confirming to make certain that “next” Saturday means THIS Saturday which is coming as opposed to the next or following Saturday….yes I am being specific about this because of cultural presumptions regarding language and experience with this . No, I’m hardly as stuffy as I seem at the moment. Im in a very rustic place now and will have to go to a friends house to catch you online. Well, im totally thrilled to do so. BARROWLANDS!
In the City of Chicago
Boston, New York and Montreal
There are people dreamin’
Of Sam Maguire and Donegal……..
So now we know we meet the mighty men of the West !
Keep an eye out for any auld spare tickets for us ……in desperate need of tickets here in the Hills .!!!

I know you’re busy, but this would mean so much to us.
Many thanks,
