Hi Christy Thanks for great show on Saturday night, great to know The Cotton Mills, Ardmulchan, The Yellow Furze, Hayestown etc where your Mother grew up still hold a fond place in your heart. Please return soon again.
Hi All. Mention of Rachel Corrie has lead me to play Burning Times,,,, the CD dedicated to her memory,,,imagine it came out in 2005 !!. Beeswing, Hattie Carroll and a great version of Butterfly featured in Navan on Fri night, by strange coincidence CM wrote about the late Frank Harte also on the sleeve notes and how he had a store of ” 20,000 songs lovingly gathered. referenced and indexed during a lifetime of song ” Beir bua. It is indeed good to remember Rachel Corrie and Tom Hurndall, who never seems to get as much coverage. It’s reassuring to know that there are good, courageous people such as these in the world – wish i was as brave. Very sad to see that the inquest accused Rachel of causing her own death because she didn’t run away when the earth from the bulldozers started to move. That is true courage in my book.
Christy, ah Man, I’m sorry I couldn’t catch any of your gigs in Ireland, no money.
I have no right to ask this. I should write the song myself, but, it would be grand if you’d right a righteous song honoring Rachel Corrie.
Thanks for the heartfelt music Christy.
Christy's reply
it is always uplifting to read the name of Rachel Corrie…..no doubt, her heartbroken family remember her every hour of every day….thank you for reminding us once more of Rachel’s short life, her compassion and her sacrifice.
Thanks to John for his link to the John Bowman show…It led me to to a wonderful evening of listening to the work of Frank Harte again, which I really enjoyed and appreciated…
Christy, I would love to know did you ever consider singing some of the songs from his vast collection in your repertoire… Recently at the button factory you sang an unheard CM rendition of a song about Dublin City…. Any Info on that one please,,,Is it from Frank Harte..
Thanks John,,,Thanks Christy,,, Ryan L
Christy's reply
that song has been in my repertoire for 40 years or more…cant recall where I learned it…I sang it that night for my wife of 39 years and her from Dublin City….it was “Down by The Liffeyside” similar but not entirely the same as the popular version….I got manys the helping hand fro Frank Harte during many years of a great friendship…we used to sing songs to each other over the phone…I miss him and his ways…looking forward to his commerorative festival next weekend
Hope all is well. As a gleswegian now living in Dublin and missing you in the royal concert hall back in Glasgow. Looking to see are doing any gigs down here would hate too miss the yearly ritual
Christy's reply
will be playing in Vicar St in Dec 11, 12, 19, 20 and Grand Canal Theatre in Jan……tickets on sale next week or thereabouts….( also looking forward to RCH and Barrowland in Nov)
Hello Christy, can’t believe the Summer is almost over, hope you’ve had a good one. We took ‘Listen’ to France with us and have lovely memories of it playing to the accompaniment of the lapping waves a stone’s throw from the tent. Tallulah’s still learning the guitar and she and Manuel can now do a fairly good version of Spancil Hill which they’ve been singing at street parties and camp sites, me and Noah joining in. Hoping that you’ll come to Brighton next year, it’s been to long! Stay well. Helen and co
Christy's reply
Tallulah singing Spancilhill at the campfire…you and Noah on backing vocals, what a lovely picture you paint for us….Autumn is here now, it always marks the start of a new singing season for me…no definite shape on next years itinerary but we’ll be there if it pans out …of course there is always Hove ( actually )
Hope the gigs are going well and that you are enjoying life. Enjoyed this Bowman show this morning – specially the Frank Harte songs towards the end – he was a fine singer:
John Bowmans programmes are among the best transmitted….I miss Frank Harte, he was the epicentre of Irish Song..a great source,a sharer of music song and fun, a true friend…the annual Frank Harte Festival run by The Góilín Club takes place next weekend…there may be a few tickets left
Hi Christy.
Was listening to ”Live In Dublin” on my travels and The Box Set (it was a long journey!!), and 2 songs that i love to play are ”Hey Sandy” and ”Dunnes Stores”..Do you ever give them an airing? Also, a friend gave me an original copy of Spirit Of Freedom album…Bought for £2.99 back in the day!..the sticker is still on it!
Christy's reply
Hey Sandy has not been aired for 35 years…Dunnes Stores for 20…glad that the songs eased your journey….gallant Wexford and Gorey
Hello Christy,
I am very excited as I will be attending your gig tomorrow night in Navan. I was introduced to your music through my husband ‘Eamon’ and now we are both massive fans. We have been to a couple of your gigs before but this time is a surprise for my husband’s birthday. I hope this is not too forward but I would be soo happy if you wished him a Happy Birthday tomorrow night and could sing ‘The Voyage’ as a special request from me please?? It is a very special song to us as it was played at our wedding. Really looking forward to the gig. Hope you are well x
Hello Mr.Moore
its an honour to be writing too you, i just want to say how much i look up too you as a musician and an idol, i would like too know if you’ll be doing any gigs in england? i havent had the chance to see you play yet and would really love to, thanks for your time, mitchell
Christy's reply
there are always a few gigs pending across the water..see gig page…hope fully will return to Midlands next Spring time if all goes well…
Listening to Magic Nights in the Lobby Bar again tonight after a hiatus from the Burning Times album – really love the imagery in that song. A song written by John Spillane and sang by your goodself is a beautiful thing indeed. Hope you are keeping well x
Christy's reply
singing that song is always a pleasure, that song and John’s other composition, Gortagort, always take me away over the city, away on the air, to where I can see the field and see the farm see the place my mother was born…singin in that place next two nights…near where the Boyne flows gently past Ardmulchan
Howya Christy, hope all is well and that you and Declan are again enjoying the gigs. This Saturday we’re also kicking off in a beautiful place in the east of the lowlands. Open Air theatre in the middle of the woods. How’s the progress on “Suffocate” ? Difficult but exciting song I suppose. As for the subject, the lyrics, but also the rythm and melody. Is the song changing now that you & Declan are working on it? Looking forward hearing you sing it again. Greetings from the Lowlands Low, John “….oh the state of us, what the hell’s happening….”
Christy's reply
we finally have it nailed..will start gigging it regularly soon…I’m sure some 4711er will get it to you..great to hear that you are still playing your music…spoke to Wally today
Hello Christy, i was just wondering if you read the song i wrote on the guestbook here last Saturday, i don’t seem to see it here now. I wrote it about living with schizophrenia.
Christy's reply
morra gh, it is not possible to either review or comment on all compositions. many people send songs and poems each week. tapes,cds,mp3s come my way daily…but I need to focus on my own work each day …there is a forum on the sister site (4711ers.org ) where songs are sometimes posted……..I wish you well

I always think Pol McAdaim’s song about Rachel would be a good one for you to cover Christy – though Pol does a grand job of it himself too.
