Christy's reply
now that you have mentioned it…..we’ll try and roll it out…it was in Edinburgh that I first heard this song by Dave Goulder..he sang it in a folk club..the old triangle ,if memory serves
You were in good form on the radio yesterday; it was a good start to the day! It’s great to hear all the requests coming in from all corners of the world! Do you ever step back and think to yourself how your music affects so many people and the joy and comfort it brings? (feel free to be totally selfish!) Looking forward to the forum gig.

James..I dont have to step back James..its with me all the time, I live each day within the healing power of words and music…I listen to Patsy Cline, Frank Harte,Mike Waterson,Nina Simone,Bob Dylan, Nic Jones,Declan O’Rourke,Maggie Barry, Hank Williams, more times I sit here and sing a bit of Wally Page, John Spillane, Jimmy McCarthy,Hank Wedell,Joni Mitchell, Jackson Brown, Johnny Duhan, Johnny Mulhearn, Barney Rushe….its all in the days work here in The Hit Factory ( as Spillane might say)..see you in De Forum Boy
Christy, getting close to the Glasgow Concert Hall. Just a wee reminder to ask you to sing Butterfly and/or The Contender, if the vibe is right.
Would love to have made it to the Barrowland but a bit old for that now; saw you there in May 1991, when you dedicated a song to Ten Men and the tenth anniversaries of their deaths; the memory still gives me a shiver, and eyes soften.
Christy's reply
duly noted John, the vibe is nearly always right for songs as good as those… Re that old Church of Ceili….I’m probably a bit over ripe for that venue myself but I’m not as sensible as you !!
Hi Christy
2 years ago I went to Roscommon to see you for the first time – and had a fab time there. Listen to you often. Really wanted to see you this year as well, but a trip to NY to see B.B.King came in the way. Hopefulle I will manage next year.
That was a lovely piece of radio this morning with John Murray, he knows what he’s doin alright..was delighted to hear Nancy Spain, the one that started it all for me. We’re spoiled with you this week on radio and a gig or two. All good, nice one.
CM (67) I stalled all morning so I could hear radio 1.But mom didnt let me stay,
So I went into school .I was writing at my desk .The teacher turned on the radio and tuned to radio 1. I heard your voice ,!!! I thought I had hit the jackpot …you were around the 3rd song and THEN the moody teacher tuned into radio na Gaeltachta,to hear the news about a crash up road.It was bye bye CMTalk about serious depression!
What was Declans reason for taking away ye broken heart out of Nancy Spain ?
Hi Christy – We’ve tickets for your concert in Edinburgh in November and would like to make a request for the song about the cockle pickers that you sang one Saturday morning on Radio 4. We hope you can fit it in but looking forward to 8th November anyway
You really, really made my day today. Enjoyed listening to your every word this morning on John Murray Show. Thank you so much – truly amazing.

I had a grand time in RTE today…met a lot of old acqaintances and made a few new ones…its 43 years since I first sang “on the wireless”….it was in the old Radio Eireann studio in Henry St., it was attached to the GPO or so it felt at the time…I sang “The Ballad of James Larkin” and “Avondale”. I was home from Manchester where I had just released my first recording. Thanks for your feedback.
Hi Christy,
Great to hear you on the radio this morning and thanks a mill for Lisdoonvarna for Stephen again. He loves that song and has the CD from your show nearly worn out. Keep well and look forward to coming to the Bord Gais Theatre again in January.
Hello Christy,
Seems you went deep to the well of healing for the absolutely beautiful renditions of Nancy Spain and The Voyage live on the radio this morning….Heard you sing many versions of these songs over the years,,,but this was special…Thanks, RyanL
Christy's reply
the nature of the requests this morning brought an intensity to the proceedings…Talking down the line to Melbourne as a man spoke of “The Cliffs of Dooneen”, talking to listeners in USA, England, Cork, Kildare, Waterford, Kildare and everywhere else gave the songs an emotional context that brought us all “deep into the well”
I’m taking a chance and taking 5yr old Erica to Ryston on Saturday night (seems like only yesterday that I posted here days after she was born)
Her mam will be on standby in case she fades early.
So Do I has been her bedtime song since she was a baby, so if you could manage to get it in to the early part of the show, she’d be delighted (understand there are hundreds of such requests).
And sure if the Honda 50 came out too, we’d be delirious!
till saturday, safe travels
Colum
Enjoying the radio at the moment. Might even accompany you on the accordion or the fiddle!

Enjoyed that programme myself…John Murray is a real Radio man, he engaged this morning with his listeners and his guest. He clearly heard everything that was being said and played. To me it felt truly conversational which is not always the case these days ( particularily in Television ).I found the programme intense and emotional, talking to so many people in far flung places, hearing their reflections on the songs and where they first heard them….these songs mean a lot to me and it is always uplifting to encounter others who have been touched by song….it was also an added pleasure to meet John in that I knew his Father well and have great memories of times spent with all his uncles in Clonmel in the early 60’s….. back when The Dannos were flying
The carousel of healing might be a hop and skip away from our carousel of happiness…
This fella carved all the animals himself…took years, but what a joyful result.
I like the way pictures change at random in the gallery when entering the home page, just thought the kitchen team should be congratulated again for their great job behind the curtains. Some very old pictures popped out today and triggered great memories…

I like that too, but I am unhappy that many of the captions are missing…they are a good backroom team….greetings to ye all up there in Santiago
