Barrowlands coming up next month Christy and me and Joan will be there as usual, looking forward to it, bringing Teasy Ward my neighbour, originally from Donegal. Teasy a big fan but first time seeing you in the flesh, she is always singing the Galway Shawl at parties, never heard you doing that particular ditty but she would be delighted if you could.
Christy's reply
see you “up the stair” but I wont be wearing the galway shawl….might have the flour bag on
Hi Christy,
Have you ever thought of singing the really great song Lord Franklin…I first came across the melody of this song on Bob Dylan’s Freewheelin album about 40 years ago..Bob had written new lyrics and called the song “Bob Dylan’s Dream”…He did say in the sleeve notes that he got the song from Martin Carty…It took me another 3or4 years to track down Martins version (no google back then) on his second album where upon I became a fan of Martin and his in laws to this day….Anyway,” we’ll sing all our cares away”Damien Dempsy Be well CM…RyanL
Christy's reply
had a cut at it a few years back but it never got out the workroom…it is a much loved and oft performed song…in recent years both Declan and Luka have sung it…I love the song.Michéal Ó Dómhnaill did a version which is a great favourite….it is a common melody which can be found in many variants in many songs
Yellow triangle really hit home with me in Ryson,I had listened to it before but obviously had not paid enough attention.Since then i have been replaying it over and over and it’s incredible Christy! The Silence of the crowd said it all for me,everybody in that room was taken back and thats what I’ll remember from that gig. Can’t wait for the next one.

sound Andy…I like it when I hear a song which comes back later and stays in my head

Christy's reply
I recall Mrs Reid and many of Jimmy’s (Mixer/Mickser) family. I also remember your Grandfather Mr. O’Brien. I can recall 2 recondiitioned bicycles bought from him and very good ones they were…The first one was a big black Rudge which I rode for years…after that I got a sporty sort of bike, a blue one but that was robbed from The Baths in The Curragh but I got a bar home from Dave O’Brien ( no relation)…….
Thank you for Saturday night, you’re a gentleman – you made a little girl very happy and a dad proud.
Thanks to the crew for being so accomodating and thanks to Hilary for the follow up.
Christy's reply
I’ll tell you Colum, seeing your beautiful daughter in your arms at the end of the gig was pure magic. To see the light shine from her was uplifting….you told us that 5 year old Erica listens to her favourite song every night…well that to me is better then any gold disc on the wall, any accolade or doctorate..thanks for sharing……Hilary has made many connections for people who have had dedications…I take this opportunity to thank Hilary for the thoughtfulness and kindness she shows to others, for her generosity to listeners everywhere..she is a true Kingdom Woman and she skims across the water
thanks for a great night down in ryston christy and for bringing the triangle with yeah and the great johnny D sitting beside me Jesus I won’t forget that one thanks again keep her going I’ll see yeah soon all the best..

it was such a treat to have Johnny Doyle and his wife in the front row…afterwards I was reflecting on all the different places gigged in the hometown…the first gig was way back in 1955, a variety concert in The Palace Cinema, after that came The Assembly Room in the girls school, The College Theatre, Neesons on the 50th anniversary of the 1916 Rising (organised by Micko O’Reilly and Jim Sullivan ) The Town Hall, The Newbridge Folk Club run by Don McCabe in McTernans and later in The Curragh Inn.Numerous gigs in Pollardstown with Moorefield GFC and many in the Riverbank.Had a great night with Crooked House Drama Group in Johnstons Theatre a few years back when Paul McCormack did a support set. There used to be great gigs in The Red House too.Played there a few times for The Red Hot Music Club which was run by Noel Heavey and his team.Did a gig in Lumville House in the 70s but there was a lot of porter involved and its a bit hazy.Back in the early days used to have great sessions in Kellys of Milltown with Austin O’Donnell and Kevin Prendergast sharing the guitar. Later it all began to happen in PROSPEROUS.Played an anti-nuclear gig in The Milltown Inn in 1979.Played in Keadeen a few times. with Moving hearts in 1982 and a few years back with Declan. There was a gig in Berneys of Kilcullen in the 80s and one in The Rising Sun Brownstown circa 1976.By the way Paul I know you did’nt ask me about all this…dont mind me Im just having a rambling moment of reflection, I love reminiscing about the “home “place.I’ve been living in Dublin for 3 times longer then I lived in Newbridge but the Moorefield Road will always be ” where I come from”…I can remember playing on the fields where Páirc Mhuire now proudly stands..there used to be carnivals there…we used to climb over Mrs Brannigans wall to look at the girls in the chairoplanes.Myself, “The Meg McGowan”and Charlie O’Shaughnessy would hang out trying to smoke without getting sick. The Old Moorefield club was beside our house. Josie Dempsey was the caretaker. I learned to play Billiards, Poker ,25 and Pontoon there. The best card players were Sean Kehoe, Kieran Jackson,Sean O’Brien,Joe and Kevin Barry,..there was also a “lesser” cardschool for apprentices and messers..then someone would turn the lights off and there would be a “penny grab”..I can still recall the smell of that club..it was seedy with smoke and dettol and turf smoke and woodbines, then one Christmas Hommer Hannon ( or maybe Uncle Dessie) came home from Birmingham wearing Old Spice and everything began to change.
Didn’t hear them unfortunately. There were singers from Muckalee side down in the pub in Spink a while back but only heard about it afterwards! The random singers and sessions in locals have become rare now but are great when they do happenl, usually the unplanned ones.
Great gig in Mountmellick last night Christy. Perfect venue. Thanks for Joxer! Lovely singing along to many songs especially the Cliffs. Take care. John and Noreen
Christy's reply
sound Spink…did you ever hear them young ones from Muckalee sing? met them after the gig and they were mighty
Hi Christyyyy. Sorry about all the y`s after your name. I got to see you live for the first time last night. You were just fabulous. I got such a buzz from the night and with the way things are gone we all need a way of getting out and having a great night. Thanks so much for the wonderful night. I work for Community Arts Centre and hope you enjoyed the Venue. I hope you`ll give us a great revue of the Community Arts Centre, Mountmellick. I you enjoyed yourself as much as Mountmellick did. Hope to hear from you. God bless you.
Regards Fionnuala Dunne. Secretary of Community Arts Mountmellick. X

Fin…We loved your venue…like I said the other night, it has a wonderful atmosphere, I hope it continues to thrive…Ron was a great host and all the team were fantastic… I look forward to playing there again in the future and I will recommend Mountmellick Community Arts Theatre to other performers
Hi Christy what a performance last night in my home town. great to see you play thank you for singing my song. what did you think of the hall ? hope to see you soon
best regards mary T
Christy's reply
lovely to play your home town…the hall is very special
Delighted to hear that you will get the chance to listen to the CD. The 2nd song is the most important one. I have been listening to you for years and this song needs your passion to bring it to life! The wrongs of the church and the pain and the anguish that children suffered is so very well highlighted in this song. I dream of you singing it one day – after it being a No. 1 hit – back in our great venue in Mountmellick or Clonaslee or Emo!!!
Christy's reply
“all I got is the beat of the stagger as I’m headin down the Curra line” ( Mulhearne )
Perth in Australia, Christy. Going back over tomorrow afternoon. So we beat the girl from the States! Well worth the trip home to get to see you live. You’re welcome over any time!
Christy's reply
Jezibel, I wish you a safe journey back up to WA, ….I’ve had the pleasure of playing both Perth and Freemantle…been on the Murray with the Black Swans, loved walking that beautiful City….( hi to Maura)..
By the way hope Christy gets a chance to listen to that CD that was given to Paddy yesterday in Mountmellick.

The Hardy Bunker, give us a blast of the Girls of Kinkane…..that cd will be listened to in turn…they come in their dozens each week ( I’m happy to report ) I try and listen to them in order of arrival…what a great audience and venue last night..very play all round
Hi Christy,
I’ve been a fan for many years now and have seen you ever time you have played in Liverpool for the past 15 years, I am a bodhran player and I’m sure you have had loads of requests but basically I’m asking if there is any chance that next time you are in Liverpool that there may be a change I could jump up and play with you and Declan. I am more than happy to meet with you before any gig and let you see that I am genuine. I’m a strong believer of ” if you don’t afk you don’t get” so what have I got to loose.
Either way I keep coming

there is no short cut onto the stage at The Phil….I was 30 years on the road before I got the chance…I have no doubt but that you are genuine

Will you be making an appearance in the land of the Black Mountain this winter? Last year’s gig was truly memorable.
Hope you’re keeping well

Never mind “lashing downs pounds and fivers” to go and see you. Had the “drops of brandy” too in Ballyshannon in ’85. It was mighty!
