Nice one Brendan. You have promoted a great cause. There’s nothing remotely eejit about that. I have been meaning to donate so you have spurred me on. Maith thú! Mary
The Manchester get-together sounds great, last time I had a night out there the Magic Village was up and running, count me in. If it’s musical could bring along the swanee whistle. Pam
Christy's reply
I lost the run of myself one day in the Magic Village….bought a load of gifts which seemed like a good idea at the time….
Hello Christy,
Do you have any favourite notes when you’re singing. I’m very fond of the D above middle C, and also the D above that.
Rebecca
Christy's reply
I do have favourite lines, verses, songs, choruses, keys but have never favoured single notes above all others….its an interesting concept which I may someday research..I imagine it might vary, depending upon the location of the single note, upon the surroundings….easier to decide upon an instrument then within the human voice
Oooh! Keep talking. It all sounds great. I feel like I’m about to be let off the lead. Just name the time and place.
I think we should call it The Giggle.
Maybe a folk club thing too? Can I drag the harp over the Pennines please? Does anyone think we should learn something to play together?
Christy's reply
I think the Brighouse Folk Club was in a pub called The Anchor…if memory serves, the Landlord was Brian Highley who went on to invent “Trivial Pursuits”….I played there once circa 1969
A deal! We’ll be sorted for Wine Lodge refreshments, doff caps to the Emmeline statue, have a wander and be at Victoria station, to meet revellers on trains from Bury,Clitheroe,Yorkshire and Hawick- and off to a gig. Can’t wait!
Fair play to Bruce – the new LP has some cracking songs – always on top of his game when he’s a bit laid back (personal taste)but when the E Street gang kick in -wow… ever hear ‘The Ghost of Tom Joad’? One of his very best- and a source of several songs in our folk club sets for years.
So,see you asap and,by then, there might be a hint of a folk club gig in th’ ills around these parts.
Enjoy the album release- can’t wait to hear it and revisit many a memory.
Dave

Maidin mhaith a Christy,
It’s great to read that wagons are ready to roll.
Thanks Pam I just watched the very beautiful and moving clip of the wonderful Marta C González

fair play to Pam..
Wondering if I could get a happy birthday message I could relay to my old da? He’s 63 on Friday, and still gutted we all missed this year’s round of Glasgow shows; although the special stream from the National Concert Hall helped soften the blow. He’s still strumming the guitar after all these years, my earliest memories of him doing so include a rendition of Nancy Spain.
All the best to you and yours, hope to see you soon.
Christy's reply
Dear Mr Hayton,
I want to wish you a happy day come `Friday..this the best I can do..your Dear Son, fair play to him, requested a birthday greeting for his “old da” ( his words !) but omitted your name so its gotta be Mr Hayton….I too was gutted to miss last Aprils Scottish gigs..I love Auld Reekie and RCH Glasgow but missing Mags McIvor’s really hurt….having played many of the worlds great concert halls I have no problem admitting that Barrowlands beats all…whatever madness goes down when we climb the stair it always carries me away to a place I cherish….I do sweat buckets…I do be totally spent..I does be in need of an oxygen tent and they give me a fish supper… since my first gig there in 1986 I’ve longed for every return to the carousel of healing…Happy Birthday Mr Hayton…..thou sincere bard..Mr Moore (75) …… ps 63 is the new 38
Thanks to Pam for the ballerina clip- absolutely wonderful viewing.Fair play to all who do such amazing work in the care sector.I’ve had family experience and was in awe of care home staff.
Pam also mentions the vaccine that will, hopefully,be a salvation. For non UK readers’ benefit, there was a Downing Street briefing ,fronted by the PM.He was very excited and used a lot of cringe inducing metaphors. It seems like we’ll all be ok with social distancing and the vaccine ,in due course. But,it was a rambling shambles of a ‘briefing’…
Certainly, hopes and dreams of the Bridgewater Hall and back to the lockdown sessions for now.
Keep well all
Dave
Christy's reply
I look forward to seeing you again in Suffragette City….you and your kid…I dont wanna be jumpin the gun here but the wagons will be ready to roll if and when we get the all clear…whether it be Bridgewater Hall or Crown & Anchor at back o Peter’s Square (Hope St ?) I’ll be ready to give it the lash..maybe not as vigourously as here to fore but , nevertheless, count me in… maybe we’ll meet in Yate’s Wine Lodge for a schooner and pork pie
Hi christy, rebeccah, dave, marty, easky, hilary, everyone…
Just a follow up about Belfast soup kitchen, i tried to donate as suggested, but as we know it is in usa, and my address was rejected. So i contacted them and they suggested using any state in america as the state for my real Hawick address, and lo and behold that works.
For good measure i made another wee donation to the simon community ( who have a soup kitchen in belfast, in the north of ireland) who my son charlie volunteers for in glasgow.

that seems like a good idea Rory…I think that I will follow suit
Hi Christy, don’t know if yourself or anyone else has seen the clip about Marta Gonzalez, a former Spanish ballerina suffering from alzheimers on http://www.classicfm.com. It proves the utter power of music, they play her Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake and her reaction is amazing I was in bits. Somehow since Trumps demise there seems to be a feeling of hope, with vaccine, etc.
Bridgewater hall next year, now I can feel it’s a reality not just a possibility. Cheers Pam
Christy's reply
Thank You Pam…
its a beautiful clip that you have uncovered and shared….
go raiibh míle maith agat…. ( a thousand thanks be with you)
Morning Christy,
My son Charlie sent me over Cait and the lads version of ‘a man you don’t meet every day’, and i was able to tell him that i saw those pogues perform that with Rum Sodomy and the Lash with a small crowd in a disco club at the top of Lothian Road in Edinburgh, where i bought a now long washed away t shirt.
So in return i sent him, from youtube, the video of the giantess of scottish folk music, Sheila Stewart, sing the same song at our local folk festival, at Newcastleton a decade or so ago.
The great songs and singers live on.
Cheers
Rory

You remind me of Belle Stewart and Jeanie Robertson…of The Berryfields of Blair in 1967…Jimmy McBeath, old Davy Johnson, Tramps & Hawkers
Had an interesting newsletter from Andy Irvine. Good that he’s keeping well and announcing an update on his early music releases. With yours due too – this is going to be a great week !
I’m enjoying the new Springsteen as well…I might occasionally have a new find- but with good companeros to keep me company, the music world is as welcome a retreat as ever…’retreat’ being the operative lockdown word… I forgot to ask you about a reference you made to a Steinbeck doc you saw. Much appreciated if you get chance to drop the title, I’d be keen to track it down- thanks.
Keep the Atkin ringing – ‘chimes of freedom’ sounding…
